Site is still under construction and already made two sales. How did it happen?

Just want to share my experience.... I am currently building a site that is nowhere near finished and I checked my Amazon account to find out that someone has bought 2 products worth $388 each. I started building the site about a 2 weeks ago and have not done any backlinking and I am not planning on ranking my site with SEO.

This is basically an experiment for me where I am putting a picture of the product, a brief description and then a 'Click here for more details' text link to send them over to Amazon. (Instead of making a typical product review site)

I haven't put Analytics on my site yet and was just wandering how someone manged to find my site without any promotion??? Any ideas???

    The SE's will find your site whether you backlink or not.
    Check your site's logs to see where the traffic is coming from.

    But KirkMcD said it all, you don't have to do backlinking for the SE's in the first place...
    the whole internet is crowded with SE Spiders... Scary huh!

    Is the site indexed in Google yet? If it is, then you may be already ranking for some longer-tail keywords with the site and that might be where the visitors are coming from.

    As others have said you will be ranking somewhere and it looks like someone clicked through your link.

    Make sure you have got some decent tracking software so you know where the visitors are coming from.

      Amazon WORKS its as simple as that, your site was indexed and you got some traffic and a small amount I am sure but that should prove to you that Amazon works and that was the exact same thing that happened to me 18 months ago, and when I saw that, I stopped everything else and focused 100% on Amazon.

      That is why I say I think Amazon is the easiest way for a Beginner to make their first dollar online, if you stick with it and focus it can steadly grow to a full time residual income.

      If you use hosting that uses Cpanel, you will be able to check Awstats for referring sites and keyword prhrases. Just login to Cpanel on yoursite.com/cpanel with your hosting login info and scroll down to Awstats and you'll be able to find the info I mentioned above.

      You'll be able to see how much traffic you're getting from different referrers such as Google, Bing or elsewhere and what keyword phrases were used to find your pages.

      An interesting thing you said to is that you were not planning on ranking your site with Cpanel. The key now days with SEO is natural titles and content with use of rich keywords -- without overuse of exact match phrasing. Since you were not trying to game SEO, which doesn't work these days, you were able to rank.

    Thanks for all your replies. I have installed analytics on my site now so i can track where my traffic is coming from. I just found it a bit unusual that I would be ranking for any keywords so quickly, let alone make some sales, especially when all I have done is write a brief description of a few products (roughly 100 words).

      I told you how you could do that above to see what was already working.

      It'll take you a minute to log into CPanel and check Awstats.

      What can say? It's great!

      you must be ranked in any of top search engine. If you have used Wordpress then it pings automatically when you publish post. So, It might have happen and search engines might have crawled it. Have a great future.
