Lets set the record straight about clickbank masking url or 301 redirect for tracking your sales
The topic is: Masking your url with your clickbank affiliate link or using a simple 301 domain name redirect.
Which one is better or better yet, which one won't affect your cookies in tracking your sales commission.
According to clickbank, they say this:
Don't mask or store your HopLink in a frame. For your HopLinks to be properly tracked, they must not be stored in a frame. If your domain is masked, your HopLink will be stored in this manner, and therefore will be unreliable.
For those that don't know what masking is, here is an example:
Say you wanted to promote a clickbank product about affiliate marketing
Lets say chrisfarrellmembership.com
You would buy a domain like this: affiliatemarketing101.com
You would get your long cb affiliate link and do the following.
1. First you go here:
Free Web Start Help and Advice
Where it says: Enter the title you desire for the site "you would enter your site title, I would recommend the actual domain name"
Underneath that it says: Enter the entire URL of the site to be forwarded to
Right here you enter your clickbank affiliate link
Then hit submit
Copy the entire link that it gives you, open up notepad
paste it in there and save it has index.html
Then log into your cpanel
Go to file manager
Click on public html file
select your domain name
Is there are any files in there, first highlight them all
Then hit change permissions at the top
Make sure you put a check in all of then and change the value to 7
Then hit the delete button
Now go to create a new folder
name it index
Then click on it and hit upload
Then click on the browse button and open up notepad and upload the index.html file
That is all
Now when someone visits your site, it will redirect them with your cb affiliate link but your domain name will remain the same
The way to test this is by visiting your site, and going to the checkout page and looking at the bottom of your page and seeing if your clickbank nickname is there.
Now here is the problem,
Even though you might see your cb nickname there, that doesn't mean you will be credited for the sale.
Why?
Because as you read above, clickbank says not to stored your affiliate link in a frame through masking the url with your affiliate link.
That means even though you see your cb nickname at the checkout page, clickbank might not be able to track your link properly therefore you will pay the end results by not getting credited for the referral as an affiliate.
Now obviously you are not going to promote your long ugly affiliate link directly.
So how do we fix this.
Again you buy any domain, .com. info. net. org, whatever, it doesn't matter.
Set your nameservers
Go to your Cpanel and go to Domains>Redirects>choose your domain from the drop down arrow, then at the bottom where it says redirects to, enter your cb affiliate link you are trying to promote.
Hit the add button.
Done!
This I think will work way better than using a mask url to cover or hide your affiliate link.
Now I know I am probably going to here alot of different opinions in here, but I would love to hear from actually successful marketers that can set the record straight and tell me what is the proper way of cloaking your affiliate link.
Masking or 301 redirects?
This would be good to know if you are going to promote a clickbank product offline through flyer advertisement. You don't want to make 1000 flyers and choose the wrong method, then you have no sales and you think no one listen to your flyers while indeed there were alot of sales, but you just didn't get credited for them because you use a frame or cloak your link the wrong way.
So lets please correct this once and for all and say the correct method!
Thank you
