Backlinking: are URL links useless?

Ive now started on my link building campaign via article marketing with anchor text, and posting in related forums.
Trouble is most of the forums that i found only allow "BB: Code" and i cant make anchors. is a url link "www.mydomainnamehere.com" useless for SEO

also, does adwords help in any way with SERP, or are articles the best way?

      That's what I was going to say. I have yet to see a forum where you can't create anchor text.

      While just the url is still a link, the anchor text will make a big difference.
