Repeatable content value

I am new to Chris Farrell's training program and he mentions in one of his modules that it is ok to have verbatim content in multiple places on the web so long as it is not on the same domain. This seems to contradict much of what I have read about SEO. Can anyone offer their 2 cents please?

Read up on syndicated content here on Warrior Forum. According to people who promote using article syndication, the key is to get the original indexed at your site first. Then you submit it to article sites. Other sites will then syndicate the content from these these distributor sites.

I ask because I am creating a directory and copying content from the store's websites for the listing. I need to know if this will give me zero SEO value.

    He's right.

Yes, it will, almost for sure.

Most of what you've read about SEO, just like most of what most people have read about SEO, was probably based on the teachings of the Urban Myth School of Internet Marketing. In this case, specifically, it was probably based on a misunderstanding of what constitutes "duplicate content".

Here are two brief things which explain the truth ...

If you hear people talking about "content duplicated across domains" and they imagine (or pretend to) that that means the same as "duplicate content", and they try to impart that "wisdom" to others, it's ok to throw rotting fruit at them. In fact it's encouraged.

It will typically give you very low on-page SEO value, if it was previously indexed elsewhere. Probably not quite "zero". But you certainly won't get "penalized" for "duplicate content".

(This is content you have the copyright owners' permission to copy, I hope? Not that it's any of my business ... ).
