Is there a future in Email Marketing?

I wonder if there is a future in Email Marketing. Right now it seems fine but people might stop using email all together and move more towards platforms like facebook..

Maybe one day there will eb a law against email marketing and there won't be any autorepsonders anymore..

Does this seem really crazy and am I completely wrong?

Or can we rock on with our list building campaigns?

Love

Like any market there is always going to be an evolution. I'm sure at some stage some technology will come along to replace email but until then its the primary means of communication online. In fact if you look at it from a standard mail point of view, email has basically replaced a large chunk of actual snail mail. So at some stage something will come along to replace it I am sure.

The thing is about the e-commerce and internet industry is that you need to be able to adapt to change and in fact, if you can do it well, then that's a significant advantage. I would therefore suggest that aany new evolution to a different medium would again open up significant opportunities for marketers...just like email did.

I doubt marketing will ever dissapear...only the medium or channel will change.

just my 2 cents...hope it helped.

      Thanks for the fast response.

I personally feel that email will still be used in 5 years from now the same way it is used now.

      Thoughts?

I don't focus on e-mail marketing. I find it "stale" - I know a lot of people use it with great success, but by constantly shooting offers or sending non-personal e-mails is not something I see myself doing. I feel that e-mail marketing will die at some point in time. I feel that communication is too instantaneous now with texting, skype, and facebook chat that most of the average day consumers won't care about checking their e-mails consistently. I see Facebook is focused on keeping their users involved in their site by doing things such as syncing all of their facebook contacts on their phone, so I see that as "the future" of marketing for me.

No I don't think E-mail marketing is going away anytime soon. I feel this way because people are going to want to have E-mail as a form of communication. People are certainly more personal using E-Mial as opposed to FB. People will open up E-Mail accounts to receive offers and other E-Mail accounts to talk with people on a personal level. So, no I don't think E-Mail marketing is going away anytime soon.

I have to agree to this statement..As for me there are also some people out there who are more private and can be a good target market for you. Email is really more personal and formal, plus it's more of a professional approach.

Email marketing is still the most direct, in-your-face form of marketing and it's not going anywhere.

Yes, email marketing will be around for quite awhile, IMO. Oftentimes, when new mediums rise up that allow people to talk and interact with others on, including using these as marketing platforms, like say Twitter or Facebook, the older ones don't necessarily go away.

Some people thought new things would replace the old ones, but the old ones just keep going. Phone. Radio. Direct Mail. Online marketing efforts. And even options within some of these. Banner ads, email, blogging, etc. Or magalogs, inserts, postcards, various sized direct mail envelopes, all of these are still mailed today.

When a new "thing" comes along, a lot of people move to that at times, and some of the others may fade for a bit, but many just keep chugging along and some come back just as strong as ever.

Just my observation. Email will likely be here for a good long while.
