Email Follow Up Series

So you've got your follow up series in place, and you've got some freebies, some general chatter and some promoting.

Well... How do you split it up, what sort of ratio of free to paid do you have?

When do you start pushing paid stuff to them?

How often?

I tend to have 3 to 1 of free/chatter to paid.

Your question is a broad one. A lot depends on what you
are trying to sell. Is this a newsletter? Is the series attached
to one product? Are you selling multiple products? Are
you just building a list to which you will promote many
    products?

It all depends on WHAT you are following up on.

I'd build a good relationship with them for at least a week or two!

You will get a much better response from people who value what you are sharing with them.. rather then a promo every four days from the beginning

    Hope this helps!

It actually all depends on the expectations you set with your subscribers in the very beginning. It's okay to promote products to your list so long as you are also offering high immense value to them as well.

I've always done basic followups but I'm always hearing about sending out newsletters. Is this really effective?

it really depends on your strategy.

personally, I send out a useful tip in all my emails, but then I do a soft close back to my offer in each and every one of my emails.

You should be constantly selling if you want to make any money.

The previous mention of 5-7 emails... I would disagree with the phrasing, but typically you won't have a buyer after 7 days.

You will need to do more than just email to close those subscribers.

    I agree with Dain.
You need to sell right away.
Don't bombard them with 5 a day or anything like that.
One a day is fine - give value and and put a link at the end.

    Just sell stealthy (implicit marketing).

    But for a strategy you could use C. C. P. C.
    --- Content, Content, Pitch, Content....

Think about the Goodwill you have with your subscribers and take action...

Different people will have different ways to communicate with their subscribers. You might want to test out different variation so that you will know which style get the most response from your own list of subscribers.
