How do you keep visitors on your site if they sign up for a free offer

I have an affiliate review site and I want to offer a free report to build a list associated with my site. I want to use a lightbox style pop up to offer the free report and include a sign up form.

The problem I have is that when the pop up is displayed and a visitor enters their name and email, they will be taken away from my site to an autoresponder standard page or a page I supply myself.

Is there any way the display in the pop up can be refreshed with a thank you message and tell them about the confirmation email they will receive, rather than tell them on a separate page and leave them to navigate back to the review page.

If I can keep them on the review page, they could simply close the pop up and continue looking at my review site.

I could alternatively put a brief message and sign up form in the right hand column, but again if entered, they would leave the site.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the visitor on the original page if they sign up for a freebie.

Thanks

Phil

If you have your lightbox open that page in a new tab, then your original page is still open in the browser and if they close the tab they should be right back at it.

I was thinking the same thing, open it in a new tab.

        Hi,

        Thanks for the replies.

I tested the pop up on a test site and unfortunately, the page displayed after signing up overwrites the page containing the pop up. It doesn't open a new tab. The page to be displayed after sign up is set in the autoresponder system, so I don't know how I can set it to open in a new tab.

I think I'll just have to set the pop up to "on exit" only. It doesn't matter in that circumstance, as they are leaving my site anyway. If a visitor doesn't leave it's because they've clicked through to the product site in which case I've got the result I want.

It would be nice to capture those visitors as well though.
