Blogging + Guest posting = ?

Hi all,

I have a pretty decent blog. I am planning to get traffic through guest posting. Just wondering if it is worth the effort before getting in. So, if anyone has had any success with guest posting, their help is much appreciated. If you have some strategy for guest posting, kindly share it. Thanks in advance.

It is for me. It can be a very good source of targeted traffic.

It's just a specific kind of article marketing, under another name, really. (It can be even better than other kinds of article marketing, if you can get an "introduction" from the webmaster and/or the opportunity to build relationships further by answering their visitors' questions, later.)

Yes, guest posting is really worth it. You not only get direct traffic from your author bio, you also get backlinks to your site which would hep you prosper more on search engines!

Guest posting can be a great way to drive traffic to your site. Just remember to write a quality article by making it relevant and interesting. If you post on another blog within the same niche or even sub niche, then you can drive a lot of targeted traffic to your blog. Make sure readers don't get the impression that you're only writing it to promote your site, try and provide value to them.

Guest Posting is one of the best way to drive traffic to a website. But only if you are doing it on the quality sites that don't publish thousands of guest posts every day. Try to avoid this spammers sites, because if you do a guest post there, Google will take you as a spammer.

Ive done a lot of guest posting...its great for backlinks... it sucks for traffic. Think about it....yes you get a link, but unless you're putting out an offer in your article to entice people to actually click on the link to your site, or your content is just flat out amazing, you'll see MAYBE 5% of the total readers who see your content actually clicking through to your sites. I mean really... ask yourself this...how often do YOU click on those links in guest posts? Why would your post be any different?

What you probably should do is mix guest posting along with web 2.0 properties AND google AND trying to get syndicated on aggregation sites in your niche.

The key to traffic is a diversified portfolio....not guest posting alone.

Again though... for backlinking, guest posting is one of the, if not THE best strategies...and that will obviously boost your search engine rankings, which will give you more traffic.... but as far as direct referral traffic from guest posting...You'll get a little... but don't base your traffic strategy on it...you'll be disappointed.

Now...what you CAN do to get referral traffic from guest posting is to find places that will let you post an excerpt of your article with a "CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE" link... THAT will get you traffic if it's good content. You could also add a couple "IF YOU LIKED THIS POST, YOU MAY ALSO LIKE.." links to other articles on your site... or you can add a FB likebox iframe script (at least that will get you a quick "like" from the reader so you can hopefully market other content to them)... there's quite a few things you can do...just depends on what the blog you're posting on will allow or do for you. My experience is that its hard to find places that will give you all these extra freebies in your article... they're out there, but it depends on your niche and it takes time to find them. Most blog owners just want a free article and aren't interested in helping you build your readership.

    Hope this helps

It's actually pretty awesome for traffic!
If the article you have published is pretty average then you probably are likely to only receive a small number of clicks to your website/blog.
If your content is above average and actually offers unique knowledge to the readers, there is a much higher chance, and a guarantee, that people will want more from you.

I challenge anyone to put up stats to dispute what i said. If the site you're guest posting on only has 1 simple link they give you and you dont have specific copy in your post encouraging clicks to it (or some other link) you arent going to get much traffic. Ive tested this numerous times with articles from me, better writers than me and on several different blogs. You'll get a small amount of traffic, but not much. I get about very good traffic to my blog, lots of follows on social media, email opt-ins, lots of shares... but unless ive got something extra in my post other than the 1 simple author bio link those articles aren't getting me traffic. Again, I'll change my tune if someone can factually prove that they can get more than a 2-3% CTR on the standard author's bio guest posting links...but i highly doubt anyone can.

Again guys, this doesn't mean you shouldn't guest post... but you should do it for other reasons other than direct referral traffic unless you've got a very accommodating guest blog.

  • Guest blogging is one of the best forms of marketing for a beginning blog if you want an instant and fast way to get some quick traffic. If you don't know how to get that traffic, use a guest blog and make guest plsts several times in a week. Soon, you'll be having tons of traffic from multiple sources.

I would do it, along with a slew of other free marketing strategies. There are alot of guest posting sites out there... use them, and approach individual site owners too.

But hopefully you're doing alot of paid advertising also. You'll get some instant traffic and results with this.

      Hi Rick,

Thankyou so much for sharing your insightful experience with Guest blogging. This has been a lot of help to me. So, now from your experience and Alexa's guiding, I can prepare a foolproof strategy for driving traffic to my blog. I am going to use guest posting, but at the end of the article, I am not just going to provide links to my related articles, but also provide a link for a free ebook or a video series. I am also going to use paid traffic and forum marketing to drive quality traffic to my blog. Thankyou once again.

    You should do it.

Some people don't mind if you publish the article on your website first. You get a good back link, targeted traffic, and more content for your blog. What more could you want?

Give it a shot and let us know how it goes. I wrote a few guest posts already but for websites that are not particularly popular so the traffic was has been minimal.

Guest-posting is a fantastic way to drive traffic to your website.
But you have to do it consistently. You also cant throw 3 guest post articles and expect 3,000 visitors.

Take your time and do it consistently and over a period of 3-6months you should start seeing some good result.

RickCopy, I'm not taking the bait and opening my stats on a public forum just because someone hiding behind a screen name challenges me to do it. Believe what I say or don't, I don't really give a rat's behind either way.

Like many other things that people argue about regarding their effectiveness, any failure is mostly due to execution rather than the model itself. Gaining traffic from guest posting is one of those models.

If I read a great guest post on, say, Szechuan cooking, and the author bio says Chef Chan also has a blog on making money online at..., I'm not going to click it. Now, if Chef Chan offers me a free report on how to choose and season my next wok, I might be interested enough to click through.

As a guest poster, give people an experience that they want to continue. Then, in the bio link, give them a way to continue that experience. The one and only thing your guest post has to do, once accepted and published, is to motivate the reader to click to your site.

As a publisher, any guest post that isn't at least as good as what I post myself is never going to see daylight anyway, so the requirement for "amazing" content is moot.

This is why its working for you... and why its working for me too....you didnt understand what I was saying...Im glad the OP did and will put it into practice.

Please re-read what I wrote... guest blogging CAN work... IF you're you're using an incentive for someone to click that link. However, the majority of big blogs dont want copy directing visitors away from their site.

My point was that so many people come on here and say "guest blogging guest blogging blah blah blah" like its some sort of miracle traffic generator.... its not. Its a tool to get links.. AND IF ITS DONE THE RIGHT WAY <---read one more time for emphasis... it can get you traffic... but you need to know how to write copy that encourages clicks and you need a blog that will allow it.

I did say that numerous times.

      Okay.

Even if all you want is the backlink, what's the point of guest posting on a blog that doesn't want you linking out?

One of the things that I've noticed is that the folks having the most trouble finding sites that will accept guest posts are approaching direct competitors. Yes, try to send people from my weight loss site to your weight loss site, and you're going to get some pushback if I answer you at all. Especially if you want to link to a sales page.

On the other hand, if I'm running a site peddling a low-fat diet and you're running a site peddling low-fat recipes, that might be a good value-add for my audience. Especially if you offer them a sample set of recipes from your collection.

We'll have to agree to disagree on whether or not guest posting is for generating traffic or links, with the other being a side benefit...

And that pretty much sums up exactly why so many people fail at guest blogging. Guest blogging can almost be exactly like keyword research.
Find a blog in a similar niche to your own, but one that offers something on the other side of the spectrum within your niche.

Another example to go along with John's scenario.
If your blog focuses on how to maintain, fix and build mountain bikes, try looking for, and approaching, a blog that focuses on the health benefits of mountain biking or offers articles on the best mountain biking locations.

Doing the above offers the readers of blog you are going to publish on an sub-niche within the main "Mountain Biking" niche that may, or will, be relevant to them.

Guest post on quality, real sites.

Your going to have to do backbreaking out-reach and send out emails. (Most won't ever respond back to you)

Most may want a fee $$$. Some will be ultra-picky on the content too.

At the end of the day, it's easier to build a solid foundation buying them. Then go after the more expensive ones ($500+ per GP) when you have a profitable site and can make ROI.

With that said, guest posts are still my favorite links to date.

Guest posting has been one of the most successful ways of diverting traffic to my sites. It also helps to create relationships with the owners and operators of the biggest blogs in your niche. They may become JVs of your products, spotlight your guest posts, and maybe even give you a discount on advertising.
