Should I pay for a customized logo design?

Hi,

I saw a lot of freelancers on Fiverr offering customized website logo designs.

What's the benefit of having my own customized logos?

Having a customized logo makes you stand out from the crowd. Ideally, if you build your brand up, people will see only your logo and know who you are. Look at iconic companies in the past, and the brands that they have built. Pepsi, Coca Cola, Apple, Macdonalds etc... These all have customized logos that are recognized world wide.

If these companies built their brand on "Macdonald's" written in size 12 Times New Roman, they wouldn't have such a strong brand.

Many of the logos on fiverr are created by software programs that use clippart. Check out the Warriors for hire and you can get a decent logo created for $15-$25.

You're not guaranteed to get a really unique design from others, what if they change it many times for many customer with just changing words?
My advice, use Photoshop and create a cool logo that you need, nobody else will own it, it will be your own brand, look for some friends who can design.
    Good Luck.

True custom logo design can be expensive, but it is the best way to create a unique personality with your image. Finding the right balance is a very personal choice of what's important to you and the vision for your business. In business, you generally get what you pay for or work for.

the most important thing to have your own logo is BRANDING. if you have a website of some sort or you want to promote yourself and get known by others, having your own logo and branding yourself is the most important thing. It helps keep you unique. It's worth the 5 bucks on fiverr in my opinion.

I got this one designed on Fiverr.com and a few others, was really impressed: www.4MagazinesFor40Dollars.com

It's the Magazines and book thing. Took about 5 days for the guy in Bengledesh to get it to me. I bought 4 more from the guy, and is way easier than making them myself.

If you have imagination, you can make it yourself using some free/cheap tools. I know I`m doing it. But if you don`t know what you are doing, better get someone to make it for you.

I'm too "close" to any of my websites to be able to design my own logo. I love being able to go to fiverr like websites and I'll gladly pay three or four people $5 each to get a variety of logos produced by a variety of people. Surprisingly high quality logos I must admit and very underrated designers on places like that. What I've learned that really helps is how important it is to clearly describe your branding in full to your designer and then just let them do their thing and go wild. You'll get surprisingly good results.

Many will disagree, but, as someone who has spent thousands on logo design for several projects over the year, I tend to believe that you shouldn't cut corners, or go cheap, when it comes to logo design. Many companies and corporations pay tens of thousands of dollars to develop and forward their elaborate brand identity. If you are serious about developing a brand, you really need to use logo design as a way to stand out and differentiate yourself and your brand from your competitors.

What no one here in the thread has mentioned is, do you NEED a logo? More to the point: do you need a logo NOW?

I'm a writer, so I always feel the copy comes first. In the last 3 years though, I've learned A LOT about the importance of branding and design. It's VERY important since design makes the first impression and copy is second. Design will determine how your message is received.

If you're going to go for a logo, it needs to be a well-designed, CUSTOM logo. It IS about creating the identity of your business, which is hugely important. Large corporations don't invest tens of thousands of dollars in their logos for no reason.

However, if you're just getting started, you don't necessarily need a logo now, especially if you're not entirely clear on what direction you're going. We all zig and zag, especially when we're getting started and you might end up with a VERY DIFFERENT business in 6 months than you're starting with now.

Of course, it's all subjective and only you can decide on the right timing for you.

BUT, if you're going to get a logo, it needs to be well-designed and it needs to be custom-designed.

I got my logo at 99Designs.com and have been VERY happy with it. The designer did a fantastic job. It's just the right combination of professionalism and elegance and I love it!

I paid $297 for the logo, which is relatively cheap. It's a good option for cash-strapped entrepreneurs in startup.

      Hope that helps!

Just go for the highest rated and most established on fiverr and you should do fine.
I am skilled in web graphics and even find it too hard to design fresh logos for my own brands.

hm...well, after going back and reading some of the other responses here, it appears like my response is a bit of an outlier amongst all the other responses touting just to use fiverr. Of course, I can't comment on the quality of Fiverr vendor logo design, especially when I haven't actually used it for that purpose.

I suppose the amount of cost you are willing/able to absorb is directly related to what exactly you hope to achieve with your logo. Though I could be wrong, for $5, I have a hard time believing a Fiverr vendor would be extremely accomodating throughout the design process. There likely isn't much of a "process" involved with Fiverr, outside, of course, of a brief description of what you are looking for and hoping for the best.

In order to have the greatest array of applications, I would 'think' one would want to at least ensure they receive their logo in a variety of formats, to include, at the minumum, .JPG, .PNG, .EPS, .PDF, .PSD, .TIFF. I can't speak to how accomodating a Fiverr seller will be, but I'm not so sure they'd provide all those formats. Not to mention, you likely won't receive service geared towards developing a true brand. I'm not saying you have to spend thousands...but, there are some very competitively priced services where you obtain high quality logo design for less than $200.

x3xsolxdierx3x is right. I'd NEVER go to Fiverr for a logo -- not if I were serious, anyway.

I got EXCELLENT design for my logo -- and I got it in 2 different versions (one version has the icon to the side of the company name and one has the icon above the company name) in multiple formats and sizes for both web AND print: .EPS (print) and .JPG, .GIF. So I have these formats in small, medium, large and extra large. So I have A LOT of logo files!

The designers at 99Designs.com were VERY accommodating and I've been thankful many times since that I requested all of those different formats and sizes!

My blog header got very "busy" and space was tight, so my web designer used the logo with the icon ABOVE the company name to save space. My newsletter designer used the .EPS version for the newsletter template she designed. One format looked "crisper" than another one in my video, etc. Another format looked great on my business cards. And so on...

I never would have gotten than from Fiverr!

These are great suggestions guys. I might try them myself since I want to have a professional-looking logo for my blog. I currently don't like the design because I made it myself and I got for free. I tried the Xheader but obviously I didn't get the quality I was looking for.. Oh well...

On the whole, you get what you pay for.
