There are many ways to make money and many business models. Some suggestions are to learn a lot about the entire field of Internet Marketing. Once you decide on what you want to pursue stay focused. It is very easy to get distracted as there are so many offers (shiny objects), Do not believe everything you read.
It s generally agreed upon that building a list for the purpose of email marketing is vital. That means making good use of an auto responder. There is an article section of this forum where you can study the many aspects of IM.

One more thing before you ask the forum
- it takes on average 2/6 months to start seeing a return from your efforts. Keep in mind this is all entirely based on how well you understand the information you are studying. If you become overwhelmed, you need to realize that your over thinking and probably coming up with way to many ideas.

You don't have a choice but to focus on one, until you can achieve this focus you will not, i promise you, make money online.

Before you think of making money online I think you need to consider first what you have in YOU that you can provide VALUE or SOLUTIONS to people's problem.

Oh, don't be overwhelm with that.

*To make money on the internet you need to follow one method that works and be persistent.
*Avoid information overload and shinning object syndrome.
*Create content consistently and build a list.
*If you want to do this fast then you'll need to use paid advertisements.
*Promote offers to your list by combining valuable content with good quality products that can help your subscribers.

I read your post... I found your entrance rude, your content lacking depth, and what little information you provided was single minded and outdated.

1. There is no "Need" for a website, to succeed in earning online. This is a misconception or personal limitation I find most common in beginners.

2. There is no "Best Way" when it comes to Internet Marketing. Not only is there no "Best Way", but Amazon and Adsense would be an extreme distant to owning your own product or service business.

3. You suggest people learn "Backlinking" and focus on Search Engines. Real businesses focus their attention towards PEOPLE, as they are the ones that are spending money. Does Google visit your website and click on your Adsense Ads?

4. You also suggest people learn Keyword Research. Some people may find this helpful, but they are generally the people chasing the Search Engine Dream. Your research should be on Topics, not keywords.

Do your research, choose 1 method and stick to that method for 3 or 4 months at least and monitor your results.

For instance, if your list building via squeeze pages make sure you split test different squeeze pages and headlines etc.

Research. Find out who the IM main players with integrity are. Get a mentor and/or copy the best. Success leaves clues; your job is to find the clues and forge your own way to the top. Persist; fail fast; repeat anything that makes you a profit and scale up where ROI is in your favour. Believe in your dream - make it real!

David is exactly right. Find someone you can relate to and learn every little thing you can from them.

Work and dedication is required–many stay where they are and stumble because they seek for the magic pill, expecting some method would suddenly make them a millionaire, and be an instant success.

Study, Find or create your business system where the main function is to deliver value to your customers.

Work backwards.
Before delivering anything,
Either produce value or sell other peoples products (as an affilaite) for your customers.
Research and think about what you will try to solve for others, make your customers life easier!

What makes a lot of money is being the creator and producer.
Though many promote other peoples products (affiliate) to start off with.

Start List building from day one–Set squeeze pages and provide great content in exchange for the visitors email address. You can always sell to these people and they can make you a lot of money. Always provide value to your customers.
Learn to write good copy–This will come in handy.
Write good content–Whatever it is you want others to believe what you say is credible, you need to present your knowledge and demonstrate your competence

Info overload is the buzz.
Many dont even realize they are overloaded, and end up going no where.

The second you decide you will try IM, you are an entrepreneur, and you are in business.

If you struggle moving forward, it is usually a product with good copy written, that caught your attention, with some new method hype that saturates within a couple of months.

Step away from that, and see the big picture of where you, as a business is heading and where you want to be.

  This is more involved with Internet Marketing and web development and not necessarily affiliate marketing. Its more of an advanced thing in the affiliate marketing field. To realy find this out you have to be involved in the market itself. You can always use tools like
  - SEM Rush
  - SPyfu
  - Alexa
  - Google trends
  
  but really to get a clear definition you will have to do your own statistical measurements based on each project you develop. You can use things like link tracking and web analytic's and once you have that specific following you can ask your followers to do a survey but ultimately this data is not free and/or very expensive and is something you have to fetch yourself. Once thing is certain the make money online niche psycho-graphics, as far as what i have seen and studied are all people who are chasing the dream to make money online and not necessarily the people that you would get if you look at adobe developer stats or more commercially targeted people.
  
  Their is allot of information you are going to have to know if you are trying to approach making money online with this aspect. This type of thinking can possibly stall you from actually starting to make money online. One of the most important things you can do and repeat to yourself and what many, many entrepreneurs will say is that you don't have to know everything because knowing everything isn't what makes you money. It is knowing what you want to do now, taking actionable steps now, focusing on that one thing and doing nothing but dedicating everyday with that one thing until you see a return. Basically you don't have a choice but to learn as you go if you want to make money in the least amount of time possible.
  
  Affiliate marketing (making money online) isn't an academic pursuit. Internet marketing is but internet marketing doesn't teach you how to make money online, it just teaches how to utilize all marketing and advertising channels as effectively as possible. Focusing on learning how to make money online, will give you a short cut into basically everything IM teaches but in a more profitable manner.
  
  PS
  Statistics is more along the lines of advertising psychology. Don't study this until after you make money online or else you are going to stall your returns. I say this with experience, i felt like i had to know everything. I don't regret it but i most certainly could have used the money sooner.
