Jane Bond - now I like that. Keira Knightly would be superb. It'd be hard to get audiences to take the name seriously, but maybe a Bond spin-off with a different name. Maybe keep it simple: 008.

I'd have said Clive Owen a few years back; depends how they go. If they want a more mature, battle-worn Bond, he'd be my top choice.

I agree. I think a less than beautiful woman, shown to be incredibly capable.....could change the dynamic of casting. And it would be an incredibly refreshing change.

I don't think teenage boys would be enthusiastic about it, but I sure would be.

And Daniel Craig isn't a pretty boy, and he make a phenomenal Bond.

I was set to dislike him but sorry if this offends anyone but he made the pretty boys like Roger Moore just look like jokes. Really the only bond I really care for now besides him is Connery.

I'm glad someone brought this up. I'm not racist in the least, my wife being mixed-race, but I'm not behind a black James Bond. It would be like casting Zack Efron as Shaft. I can't get behind it. Same with casting, I don't know, Seth Rogen as Othelo (although that might actually be funny). Some roles are just so ingrained culturally, and so well-defined in movies and literature, that accepting even say a female 007 would just seem to be a difficult prospect for a mass audience. If I was financing, I'd be concerned of changing the formula so drastically. Saying that, Idris could pull it off and do so extremely well. Personally, I just have a lot of love for the character and I'd hate to see it mucked about with too much. It's like Star Wars. I wouldn't want to see a remake of A New Hope and have them change the original cast. They were perfect; no remake required. Same goes for Bond: perfect; no change required.

Thats an extremely good comparison. I see no reason to mess with Bond. There are so few good spy series. I say make up another one if you want to go that way.

I like Clive too but there was a moment in King Arthur when Ray Winstone and the Knights were leaving Arthur. Winstone let out a blood curdling "Ruuuuusss" war cry to which Clive responded with "Rus" said in such a way that my Grandmother could have drowned out the sound with the noises she made when going up the stairs after sitting down for a long time.

If he was ever required to make a similar attempt at roaring while playing Bond, I'm afraid it would kill it for me.

I think the Bond films have had their day. No one has played Bond as well as Roger Moore and Sean Connery. They were great in the 60's and 70's. The British have always made the best films in the world but they have been milking the Bond films for far too long.

Denzel Washington looked old in his last film. but 10-15 years ago, I could see it.

Will Smith? His Men In Black character is close to James Bond. He could do it except; He isn't British, and it would be a hard sell to fit him in the British Secret Service.

Idris Elba? I think that would be an inspired choice. He could play just about any action hero.

The problem in casting against an established race, is that the actor has to be more suited to the role, than what audiences expect. For example, Lawrence Fishburne was a great Perry White in Man Of Steel. In fact, his gravitas and bearing made him an excellent choice. Samuel L. Jackson is perfectly cast as Nick Fury. It's like he was born for the role.

But they were great, not because of their race, but because they were perfect for the role.

If Christian Bale were black, he would still be the perfect Batman. When it was announced that Bale was going to be Batman, all of fandom said "Of course, it's obvious".

The next James Bond would have to be a more obvious choice than Daniel Craig. Is there a British black actor that could embody the idea of James Bond better than Craig? Maybe. But fans don't want someone just because of their race, they also have to embody the role.

First of all I wholehardidly agree no fans (especially people of color) want someone just because of race as you said. But to answer your question, you know Idris Alba is British. Born and raised, Hackney, London.

But don't get me wrong, the integrity of the role should always be honored. But the only thing cultural about the character is British, cool, sauve, and smooth with the ladies. Let's not add more to it than that. All I can say after that is may the best man win.

Idris Alba is all those in Real Life, not just on the movie screen. It wouldn't even be much like acting for him, that's my point.

Will Smith as James Bond? As accomplished an actor as he is, I think even Will would baulk at the idea of assuming the persona of a Scottish-raised Royal Navy Commander, living in a flat off the King's Road in Chelsea, and working for Her Majesty's MI6. Saying that, he has the looks, the physicality, and the right charm and charisma to pull off a superb American secret agent. Would be nice to see his MIB character evolve into something more serious.

Meh...Fresh Prince has had a few roles push him to act but his action roles tend t be a little "look at me" than authentic covert spy (maybe Mission Impossible which I think still has room to grow up as a franchise). Plus you'd have to tape back those ears or the bad guys would know its bond even from the silohuette.

Are you guys going "metro" in your choice for Bond?

For old geezers, you dudes sure don't think casting like "old hollywood" did..., dudes with grit and real world character, mulit-dimensional.

Sean Connery made and broke the mold on Bond, that is that.

Post-Depression era, cold war macho, manly man without even trying, balance of humor, charm, almost Joker-light with finesse, suave, engaging, charm and very intense when he wants or needs to be. Burly and brutish at the right time with no apologies of being an hombre.

Most of these other guys are " pretty" boys, model types, and/or very one/two dimensional in character movement within the Bond realm, can get old fast.

Daniel Craig almost had everything, except not much humor or range of charm.

Daniel Day Lewis could probably pull it off, but maybe too intense, his range goes into the extremes in either direction.

Roger Moore was ok, but Connery was a guy you could have a beer with while Moore was too "prim and proper" like, snobbish, too aware of speaking "proper" english, like if he met you on his way to the polo club , he would talk to you in a "patronizing" way, while Connery seemed more like "a regular working rogue" type chap.

The way most of you guys casts, you would have missed Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum types.

But then again, those types aren't looked for, or don't know HOW to be looked for...,because most of these guys did odd jobs and ONLY got into acting as another job or was discovered doing other things.

The character, James Bond is more than a tough macho man. He's intelligent, suave, and a borderline psychopath. (Not that that's a bad thing)...and he's British.

Maybe Kirk Douglas could have pulled it off. Maybe Daniel Day Lewis. Jim Caviezel would make a good Bond, I think. If they could pull off the accent, John Hamm would do a good job.

I think Henry Cavell would make a great Bond, but he's already Superman.

Of course, Sean Connery was the best. How could he not be? George Lazenby sure looked the part, but only made one Bond film.

And Craig's Bond, I think..... captures the spirit. I thought it was inspired casting.

Henry Cavill might have been a good choice, but he's already playing CIA agent Napoleon Solo in the forthcoming Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie.

Bond as a double agent? Unthinkable.

Different characters that require different things to come across the screen. Besides, ALL the people that played superman , from George Reeves on, reflected the comic character, NOT the type of Bogart or Clint Eastwood type of hombre anyway. George Reeves was kinda a tough guy in other roles, but playing Superman character somewhat suppresses those attributes unless they are organically strong to the person.

Nah, seen it, hoping it was at least kinda like 300, but if you remove Gerard Butlers shakespearean performance, from 300 there is no glue holding the rest of it together, THEN you add a 300 copycat such as Immortals with a pantie model, nice guy kid as the lead, well, not re-watchable and forgettable.

The moment I seen Cavill on screen along with his performance, did not buy him as a leader, let a alone a tough guy you would admire, fight into hell alongside or want to be.

"For A Few Dollars More" he is not, sorry.

When you are tied or slightly edged out by Keanu Reeves in on-screen grit, that's not saying much; much less, thought of as a James Bond type.

He could play James Bond's kid that Bond did not know he had, though.

And....these are actors. Who thought Michael Keeton could pull off Batman? Who saw Danial Craig as Bond? Certainly not me. But he may be the best of the litter.

Although I still think Lazenby could have been Bond for 20 years, if he stuck with it.

Disagree, "boarderline" psychopath is more apt.

To kill continuously, as part of ones career choice or employment, if you have to, takes a certain type of person, and if you call Bond, a british Naval officer trained in extreme elite tactics, which includes killing when on a mission, well, anyone with legal authority to use force with a weapon is a psychopath.

My vote is for Jack Tackett.

I heard they actually offered ol' Jack the role, but had to backtrack the offer when all of Hollywood's leading ladies were literally beating each other up for the opportunity to be the next Bond Girl. Claude actually "attempted" (his words) to get a sex change and started taking acting lessons.

There's serious cinematography issues casting Claude in a Bond movie. Claude's head is so big, every scene he's in would have to be filmed using a wide angle panorama.

I think better use of his gigantic noggin would be in a B sci-fi movie where he uses his huge head to knock down skyscrapers in Tokyo...Something like, "Claudezilla...This Time It's Personal!".

I agree about Craig not being a pretty boy and making a super Bond.

When he was first cast, I must admit I was against the decision. His performances has won me over, though; and I now consider he and Connery to be the best of the bunch.

That being said, I do think we need a very physically attractive female Bond; not cute, not, but very attractive. I'm not saying I'm right, but I've been writing screenplays for 15 years, 5 years for indies, and I know the value of an attractive lead (male or female). You can get behind the hero better this way; it's the reason most leading men and women are good-looking. There are exceptions to the rule, though, and this is why I suggest I'm not necessarily right here. Think of Gene Hackman in The French Connection. Could there have been a better Jimmy Doyle at the time?

To play it safe: I'd go with attractive but tough as nails.

If there's one Warrior I could nominate to be casted, It's Van. Richard Van.

I'd like him to see shaken, but not stirred. And Mr. Whitacre be the villain, Miss Terra is the Leading Lady, Dan Riffle as the loyal henchman, and the title of the film will be Van 007: MarsRaker

I think you have that backwards...

Riffle most certainly would make an excellent henchman, it's the "loyal" part that's askew.
