So finished watching this.

Lets just say I haven't laughed this hard for a long long time.
Only fell asleep once and that was after downing a whole chicken watching it past bedtime in me comfy bed. So that could have been a food coma.

God Approved!

Well, dumb and dumber IS about a couple idiots, and has stupid humor, like getting a guy mad at them who sends guys that, among other things, kill their bird. They then sell the bird to a blind kid.

    i watched 'the interview'

    hardly groundbreaking, hardly memorable

    it was hackneyed and boring

i am confident without the free publicity it would have been a cinegraphic disaster, both financially and movie wise

I beg to differ, its pretty unique in that 99% of movies are too plain scared to set themselves in real place around a real person especially if the person of place is evil.

Yes except this movie was not realistic in the least. And the whole let's kill the evil dictator comedy has been done several times. In fact Kim Jong Un's father was targeted in "Team America: World Police" in 2004.

The movie is full of crude juvenile slapstick humor. I would have loved it in Jr. High or High School - But I'm embarrassed to say that I was suckered in by this marketing ploy and wasted over an hour watching it. If I want to hear butt-hole and penis jokes, I'll substitute at the local High School.

After watching it, I have no doubt that the whole thing was a ploy. There's no way any that any person could have taken that seriously.

          AHA

I informed you people thusly in the thread about it and nobody took me seriously. NEENER NEENER NEENER.

As far as slapstick - sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. I used to love the 3 Stooges, but can't sit through one now. Still love the Marx Bro's. Hate Bevis and Butthead and Dumber and Dumber, too. When stuff get's too stupid, it loses it's humor for me - but I love loads of one liners.

There are so many little things about the movie that are soo cool.
The music and soundtrack and simply Perfect.
Love how the UAV gets piloted by a Red-Bull-drinking geeky kid in a trailer in middle of the Nevada Desert.
How Franco asks if the tiger has night-vision goggles.
How Franco says in his country Stalin is pronounce Stallone...
How Eminem deadpans that he's gay.
    High production values.
Love the banter around the 'Take him out' bit with the sexy CIA operative.
The tank battle at the end.
Slow motion death of Kim to the music of Katie Perry.
Zillions of other little pieces of dialog that are funny as hell.

But some say its not about the movie, its about free speech.

We can say whatever we want, about whomever we want, whenever we want.

    That is the issue.

So we should see an awful movie just because somebody told us not to? Isn't that kind of an adolescent notion of freedom?

I haven't seen it yet so I'm not commenting on its quality. I'll probably watch it at some point. It can't be any worse than The Dictator (with Sasha Baron Cohen, not to be confused with The Great Dictator with Charlie Chaplin), which I have to admit had some laughs in it.

I'm just questioning the idea that we should see it simply because someone tried to censor it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your opinion is only relevant to you. Some will love it, some will hate it and some if not most, will be indifferent. None of them will be wrong.

This is similar to something I always find amusing and frustrating - when someone says a band is good, especially when I think they suck. If you want to say you like them, enjoy them or even find them to be talented - fine. I'll accept that. When you deem them 'good' you have crossed into making a blanket statement that it seems you want everyone to share. If you say that they're good and I say they suck - who's correct? We both are - for our own way of thinking. (Except for Creed. If you say they're great and I say they're the worst band in the history of music, on that one I'm right and you're wrong. They just plain SUCK.) lol Sorry, Don. While I realize that you are always right about everything, even you're not perfect. :-)

The appreciation of various art forms is wholly subjective. Saying a movie is 'good,' doesn't make it so. Some people love 'Forrest Gump.' Some think it's overly-sentimental claptrap. To me, it is overly-sentimental but far from claptrap, but I always stop and watch it if I come across it while channel surfing.

Some people think that Citizen Kane is overrated. Go figure. lol

          Cheers. - Frank

P.S. Last night while channel surfing I can across 'Pineapple Express' another stoner flick with Rogen and Franco. I had no idea you could make a movie that friggin' lousy and not be thrown in jail, or at least deported. I'm sure many loved it and and found it hilarious. It takes all kinds. All I know is there ain't enough pot on the planet that would have made me think that movie was funny, at all.

LoL!! I Good one, Frank. You're right, Creed is not great -> but IMO they do not suck, and they have sold 40-50 million albums worldwide. My wife agrees with you though...she thinks Creed sucks bigtime. FTR, I don't believe I have ever said they were great.

Scott Stapp is having some serious issues, no need to debate that fact.

While I currently have maybe a half-dozen Creed tunes currently on my rock and metal favorites playlist that I am listing to now...they are WAY down the list as far as greatness goes. In-fact they are one of my suckier favorites on that list if you get my drift. Quantitatively speaking, with some bands and artists I have several dozen tracks on my playlist, and others I have fifty to a hundred or more...the weaker bands I have 5-10 or less of.

To put it in perspective, if forced to delete all of my Creed tunes or Cirque du Soleil's Dralion soundtrack...I would probably keep the Dralion soundtrack.

I did see Creed live once, and dude gave 100%+ at the live show I caught. I would not have paid to see just them play, but I did catch them warming up another act at Tinley Park several years back.

A few from Creed that I have on my playlist.

            And one from Dralion...

I enjoyed the live musicians at the Dralion show so much I grabbed the soundtrack as soon as I got home. In hindsight, I would have paid just to hear the Cirque du Soleil Drailion musicians without seeing any of the awesome circus acts.

I listen to a bunch of rock and metal, but also I listen to almost every major genre of music available, except country. Johnny Cash is basically the only guy that I listen to that you could consider country, except Kid Country, and he barely makes any of my lists.

            Cheers

Oh, come on, now. They could sell 500 million albums, or 5 billion - would they suck any less? I can supply you with an unending list of crappy bands that have sold albums in numbers that are hard to fathom - or justify. :-)

I'm waiting for the video so I can watch it with the sound turned off..

Well, there's country and then there's 'country.' Modern Country, the crap they play, today - I can't stand any of the men, but really like a lot of the women. Sara Evans is at the top of my list. That's one talented gal.

Real country, country and western - well, I spent 3 years in the Army, so I was certainly exposed to a lot of that. I love Bill Anderson and the Po Boys, Jim Reeves, Bobby Bare, Carl Perkins, Bill Monroe, Conway Twitty, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams and many, many more. Today's country music is all about the 'act.' You can't tell one of the male performers from the next. Same hat, same tight jeans, same 5 day growth, same insipid lyrics - shall I go on??? Maybe it's just because I'm male. lol

My country leanings are actually more Appalachian Bluegrass. I'm serious. There's not much music that I consider 'organic,' but I do get a visceral response to that kind of music. I loves me a good hoedown. :-)

I grew up in a house where my mom listened to Dinah Washington, The Three Suns, Harry Belafonte, Brenda Lee, Patti Paige, Connie Francis, Mel Torme, Dean Martin, Ella Fitgerald, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Francis Albert Sinatra (who I'm named after) and all of the 40's era Big Bands. My stepfather was more into jazz - Earl Bostic, Urbie Green, T. Monk, Earl Grant and the like. Personally, and I'm serious, I have always had a jones for Mitch Miller albums that I found in their record collection. That's where my love of harmony was born.

While my folks did leave an imprint on my musical tastes, my progression was Philly Doo-wop, oldies but goodies, Motown, British Invasion, Psychedelic Rock and the standard 'commercial' fare from that point on. I was never a big punk fan, though there were a few really great punk bands. In every genre, even disco, there are stand-out artists. Punk was always a little too heavy on the 'look at me - I'm an anarchist' act. If I want to have my senses assaulted I'll just gaze into a mirror.

I'm from a school that says if it doesn't have melody, it's not really music. I'm still a show tunes junkie. I'm sorry, but West Side Story, South Pacific, Oklahoma, Anything Goes, Man of La Mancha, The Fantastiks - that stuff just gives me chills. And about melody? Does it get any better than Simon and Garfunkel? I think not.

Just joshing you about your musical taste (or lack thereof). Music is a very personal thing, the soundtrack of our lives. When you attack a person's musical taste you are at some level invalidating their life experience. No one has the right to seriously do that. I'm sure by now you have come to realize that a lot of what I say is just an effort to get a rise out of someone. That satisfies some adolescent urge that I have never been able to shake. We all have our needs.

We have now arrived at that point in space and time where I will be blasted by those who believe that Willie Nelson is a musical legend and that it's unpatriotic to think otherwise. They'll be followed by those stating that Miles Davis is a freakin' musical genius that I'm too much of a cretin to comprehend or appreciate.

              OK.You win! :-)

              Cheers. - Frank

I'm waiting for the video so I can watch it with the sound turned off..
Cirque du Soleil's Dralion has been running for 15 years and a DVD came out many moons ago...

The DVD is probably pretty good, but it cannot possibly do the live event justice. As you have probably found out for yourself, the overall experience can be much better live, especially so when you have good seats.

And yes, the Drailion soundtrack was quite well received.

In the 2001 edition of "The Year in Music", published in December by Billboard, Cirque du Soleil took seventh place in the Top World Music Artists category; ninth place in the Top World Music Albums category went to the album Dralion (the soundtrack from the show of the same name).

Drailion played the largest venue here in Cedar Rapids for 5 consecutive days in November and I am glad I did not miss the show.

This trailer shows many of the acts...

Name your three sickest, favorite bands and hit 'search' - if it's working.

Are you really going to make me search for that thread or are you going to man-up and fess-up??? lol

You must have fallen from your rocking chair and banged your gourd a bit too hard. Maybe you should have your wife take you to see a doctor, eh? Many of those bands (and artists) are legendary, but it's quite obvious that you know little about rock and roll and metal. In-fact I am starting think you may have very limited musical tastes.

I was being facetious. They're just a wee-bit too gay for me. :-) And you've seen them how many times?

See. It wasn't so hard to find that, was it? Lots of bands that I love in that list. Lots that I wouldn't listen to with someone else's ears. :-)

I'm a very simple man with very simple taste. As in most things, Don, I would never, ever claim to coming within a hundred miles of your expertise in any subject on the planet. I mean, really - who would be so brazen as to think they could hold a candle to you on any subject? Other than Steve, of course.

Yeah, I get that a lot. Sometimes, I even amaze myself. You'd think I'd be used to myself, by now.

You may want to look up the definition of "favorite" and "great" as the words do not have the same definitions, and you should not use them interchangeably.

Frank, nobody holds a candle to you when it comes to shi* talking nonsense and BS. You win the prize on that... and you have achieved greatness in your own mind.

Jeez, Don. I wasn't friggin' quoting you. Do you really think that I remember anything you say, verbatim, more than 5 seconds after you post it? Get serious, please. You HAVE made other posts where you rave not just about those bands, but the genre in general. The reason I remember them at all is because they caused a clean-up in aisle 5 after I was done pissing myself from laughing so hard.

You know the difference between you and I? When I claim to know something, people can usually tell by reading between the lines that I know, that they know, that I don't know JackShit AND that I know I don't know. Did you follow that? I smell smoke! Your problem is, you actually believe that you're JackShit.
You can look forever big boy and you will still not find what you thought you saw.

Watched the first 22 minutes. That was enough for me.

    You can keep the rest.

I saw one clip - the part that Kim gets killed. I saw it on Youtube - it was posted as a protest I would think. Anyhow, it was in slow mo and it was an incredible piece of filming. Not sure if it was in slow mo on the actual movie, but it was on youtube to show exactly what little Kimmy was upset about.

That doesn't mean it's a great movie - it had some nice special effects for at least a minute, though.

Crawl back in your hole, Frank. You are an impolite, arrogant piece of work and some days you become a trash talking troll. But you know what you biggest problem is, Frank? You often confuse fact with fiction and you have a hard time with reality.

Enjoy this one from the Deftones...

Wow. Anger sure is ugly. I hope that never gets hold of me that way it seems to have blackened your soul. You need to learn to lighten-up, Don. Learn to enjoy life and to not let others bother you so much. They're nothing more than the on/off state of pixels on a computer screen. To give them any more importance than that is just silly.

At least now I know why you like that beastly music so much. Your soul is dead. No one with any joy in their heart could ever listen to that crap.

I thought you were calling it a day? I used to be a slave to my rage, too. I realize that it's absolutely impossible for you to not respond. First, there's that attack reflex and then that infantile need to have the last word. I know what it feels like and understand what you must go though on a daily basis. Sad.

Let me show you how a man handles it. Post what you wish, because you are unable to help yourself. I shall not respond. That way you can go to bed tonight believing that you have won, but at the same time exhibiting for all the world to see how weak and helpless you truly are.

      Smile, Bunky! - Frank

      P.S. Brutal, isn’t it? :-)

Angry? Not even close, but you are getting a little extra personal today, eh? I am wondering if you actually have a soul.

Get a life, Frank. After 4 very large Christmas parties with family and friends this past week I must tell you life is great and I am filled with an abundance of joy.

They're nothing more than the on/off state of pixels on a computer screen. To give them any more importance than that is just silly.
Yeah, talking to you is a big waste of time...I should have learned that fact much sooner!

At least now I know why you like that beastly music so much. Your soul is dead. No one with any joy in their heart could ever listen to that crap.
You are so full of shi* your cup has runneth over.

If you want to say you like them, enjoy them or even find them to be talented - fine. I'll accept that. When you deem them 'good' you have crossed into making a blanket statement that it seems you want everyone to share.
When you attack a person's musical taste you are at some level invalidating their life experience. No one has the right to seriously do that.
Hypocrite, much? You must accept the fact that most of the people that listen to rock and roll, metal, and most other music genres do have joy in their heart, and for you to say otherwise shows just how ignorant you really are. And seriously, you telling others that their soul is dead? Holy smokes, it that ain't the joke of the day!

Infantile? You have described your nonsensical outbursts and forum behavior perfectly.

You are a really big man, a man that posts a bunch of nonsense, falsehoods, personal attacks and utter garbage. Now let's hear a few from one of my all-time favorites, Fleetwood Mac.

LoL. If the music is not for you then maybe you should tune into the Claude and Dan comedy shows that play on dozens, if not hundreds, of WF OT threads.

Yes, saw a poster for this with an October 2014 date, today!

Then l saw another with a January 2015 date!

No doubt the October one will be worth something eventually, glad my brother got one!

And if some looney goes on a rampage Sony will pull the theatre release again, and possibly online?

Another good thing that came out of this was I got introduced the music of Katy Perry. I must say I am astounded by her music and voice. I never bothered to listen to her stuff or associate any music with her cos I always figured her for another Britney Spears.

Just saw it, it is a bit like The Wolf of Wall Street, and dumb and dumber, (the slightly more intelligent version)!

Some parts are pretty funny, and others probably not, but if you are easily offended then avoid this one!

I didn't know that the Korean leader could talk to Dolphins, and doesn't need to, hmmm,..... never mind!

PS watch the end of the credits, they give an update to the puppy, mmmmmaaaaaahhhh!
