I am having increasingly weird dreams :(

Dreams are your subconscious talking to you. Everything in your dream is an aspect of self. It sounds to me like an inner conflict - you want to move on and something is keeping you from doing so. When this happens in a dream, you must fight and conquer what is holding you. Make an effort to escape or vanquish your rival next time it happens.

Much of what we dream is the mind regurgitating thoughts and experiences over decades. It's subconscious projectile diarrhea which contains an occasional semi-solid lump of recognizable content. (No charge for the poetic imagery).

Yes, I did dream that my dog chewed through the Comcast cable last night, which she has done twice already and I worry about constantly. Two nights ago I had a dream that when I removed my socks my feet were hideously discolored, an obvious result of my continuous worry about my diabetes.

That said, the remaining 99% of what I experienced in my dreams those nights was insanely weird and great entertainment, but had absolutely no basis in reality or my 'self.'

Some things actually do mean nothing.

No it's not the same as saying that.

There's two types of dreaming. REM and non-REM. Non-REM is more of the minds rehash of the day's events, sorting, etc. If you remember a non-REM dream, you'll recognize instantly how it follows normal and most likely, recent, events in the real world. REM sleep takes us deep into our subconscious and can be very whacked. One thing that is true of both is that they are centered on the self. The mind has shut out physical and social stimulus and is focused inward instead of outward.

When I say everything in the dream is self, what I mean is characters in the dream are being projected from your own mind - they aren't the same as dealing with someone who walks into a room - they are manufactured in your head and your mind has them playing a role. This role can be as simple as saying hi to a brother as you walk in the door of a house that you would expect to see him in during waking life to very deep psychological issues that the character is acting out.

Whatever the character does, is of your own making. Some societies are very dream based. They talk about their dreams around the breakfast table, they teach children how to analyze their dream experiences, and how to deal with them. I use the Somoian culture's method of getting rid of nightmares and it works well, especially for recurring nightmares. That method is to face any adversary in a dream and vanquish it. One of my "adversaries" was the almighty elevator, which would plummet when I got in. Sure was glad to get rid of that one!

So, when you dream a character, and put them in a specific role and dialogue -- that's you, not them. It's up to you to figure out why you made the characters act as they did.

I remember all my dreams. At least when I first wake up. It fascinates me that I can surprise myself in a dream. For example, another person, in the dream can say something that catches me by surprise.....but I created that person, and everything they say.

By the way, if your new Avatar is your photo.....I'm pleasantly surprised.

That's incredible. I used to be able to remember them all, but lately haven't been, and it bothers me. I hope now the move will bring them back for me. I've headed a few dream groups that you would have been awesome in........other than you don't believe in thought transference.

Yes - that's me (my hair is short but I'm letting it grow again, oops). I'm surprised you never saw it before. Even your wording, and when you talk about self defense, you are obviously female. MAN, probably over 90% of the sals I have known were female. Apparently, for males, It is short for Salvador or salman, most of the time.

I can agree with almost all of that.

So, when you dream a character, and put them in a specific role and dialogue -- that's you, not them. It's up to you to figure out why you made the characters act as they did.

Not that, though. Again, it's just stated in a too declarative fashion. That's just not something that you can know - but only, surmise.

Well, I asked my friend Johnny about that and he said to inform you that what you were experiencing was not dreaming. He said that is more commonly referred to as hallucinating.

I'm afraid this one is going to go deeper than money. The subconscious communicates with symbolism. The symbolism is usually quite literal, too. Remember the subconscious conveys data that is stored before it has linguistic coding. If you get a run of these dreams it helps to figure out what they are telling you....but it's not a pleasant trip to have a bunch of nightmares.

From the night terrors your dream caused you - I would think that your lack of money is more related to what is wrong in the dream. Your cause and effect, I think is backward on this one. Money would cause some anxiety, but not terror.

Well, as they say, positive feedback spreads as fast as negative!

But putting that aside, this obviously runs deeper than money.

After a B*** screwed me over and almost maxed out my CC, a few months ago, l drove back from the airport, after waiting for hours and clocking up another $60 in parking, l was ready to hit the nearest tree, but didn't!

But eventhough l did a seriously dumb thing, l didn't have any nightmares!

So, one thing l can suggest is to say this,....

LifeSpirit Center, Clearing Prayer, Spiritual Protection, Spiritual Clearing, Three Clap Technique, Defense Agasint Dark Forces

Well the three clap one sounds interesting, but generally say something alone the lines of removing anything negative from the room and imaging white light pushing out anything nasty.

Now, if you believe in this sort of stuff or not, it will help; and will give your subconscious a breather!

I use this trick when l want to make sure the room is clear, and it tends to work well, regardless of your belief system.

I left the hospital monday morning, had to take insulin by injection, potassium pills, ramipril metphormin all sorts of stuff. But, my faith made me well.I live today db free.
I could give many other examples. I no longer take drugs, I was set free not in a church but in my home. He lives and He is the only answer.

I highly suggest you open your heart. it doesn't matter what is believed it only matters what is.

You might want to read that post again. I seriously doubt that medical science would ever be recognized, let alone accepted as a possible contributing fact in relation to his recovery. That simply would not compute.

There are religious people who believe God was the one who played a role in their healing, and there are others, who don't want to discard discard doctors' efforts in their recoveries, who say God worked through doctors to heal them.

In the case of the first group of people, I never understood why, if they're so convinced of God's healing power, even went to a doctor in the first place and didn't stay at home, praying.

In the case of the second group of people, I never understood why God, if He's so powerful, could not have healed them directly.

Anyway, I'm not going to further comment on this because I don't want to get banned. (I wouldn't mind a religious debate, though, but religious discussions are prohibited.)

I hope I don't insult anyone here, by bringing in actual science.

Most of your brain is inactive while you sleep. It's why ridiculous events in a dream seem perfectly normal.

You dream about demons because you believe in demons, or you remembered stories of demons. The brain can only use what's in it.

Possibly, these dreams are caused by anxiety.

These may be Night Terrors. If you just wake up screaming, it's an evolutionary throwback to when lions would eat us. It's a survival mechanism. Maybe aggravated by anxiety.

This is 2015. There is no need to hang on to medieval superstitions.

stress can bring on nightmares and night terrors, at least for me it has.

There are many ways to de-stress before bed - drink herbal tea, warm milk, eat a banana, have a warm bath - try doing something relaxing before bed - something to take your mind of all your worries

I agree the demons are the last thing on your list, but do possessions of human body's take place, or course!

I tried channeling, a while ago, and there are obvious physical and mental changes that take place, which cannot be attributed to self delusion.

And an interesting experience, which should only be done in a safe room, (best to research that one, l don't want to go into it too much).

Or a group of individuals!

Groan here we go,...that is the trouble with all of this new age stuff, (or old age, something age) is personally if l were a scientist, l can and have conclusively proven that most new age stuff is genuine.

But can l prove it to a determined skeptic, in time, in person l believe so, but it would take a while; on this forum, probably not!

My sister, who is a psychologist advised me that every night we have dreams. Lots of dreams. Many of those dreams hit our subconscious but are never remembered. The dreams we do remember is our body, mind, or whatever you would like to call it, sending us a message no matter how outrageous they may be. Sometimes these dreams should be interpreted in a manor that is serious and should not be taken likely.

The mind does seem to be quite active during dreams, considering that we can be proactive when they're taking place. In one dream, I got into a cage fight with a half-man-half-bird creature and I was definitely mentally engaged in winning that fight (then woke up like, "WTF?")

A number of great novels such as Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were inspired by dreams. Even scientific discoveries such as Double Helix structure of DNA were initially inspired by dreams

I once had a dream that worms were crawling out of my skin and, freaked out, got myself tested, and it turned out I literally had parasitical worms in my system. Medication (bloody expensive) got rid of them in quick order.

Still, research does indicate increased electrical activity during dream state, consistent with getting rid of superfluous sensory input and whatnot (sort of mini-electroshock therapy?).

Yeah, we've talked dreams a few times. I've headed a few dream groups from here a few times, too.

I've always found it interesting that the conscious mind can be engaged and invade the sleeping mind. They have scientific evidence now that proves lucid dreaming is a real ability and not just superstitious hocus pocus. I didn't need to read that to know it. Lucid dreaming is how I got rid of my falling elevator dreams.

I've neither been around Claude's head nor WC's armpit, however having worked in the medical field for all of those years, I've been around a lot of men's bald heads and armpits and the armpits pits won in the stinky arena every time. Hands down.

I had a dream whoever deleted the cipher I posted was in a tragic automobile accident. I tried everything to save him, but apparently he persisted in continuing to drive in the direction that only leads to his destruction.

I find that if I DON'T eat at least 6 hours before bedtime, then
my dreams are happier and I have less dreams. Maybe you
are going to sleep with a full stomach.

In that case, I suggest you do some nutritional research so that before bedtime you try to eat foods that are not stimulative.

My guess is foods that are easiest to digest would be least likely to inhibit sleep but I'm not a nutritionist.

You like to talk about workout and muscles - and clearly like to be on display (no shirt) - so research and learn something about how nutrition can affect sleep patterns. It's part of being physically fit and healthy.

You're probably getting too little minerals and other nutrients. Protein isn't everything. Eat a piece of fruit, a carrot once in a while.

Yeah I eat fruit, ice cream, oatmeal etc as well. Rice, pasta, bread.
But those 3 are my bread and butter.

Skip the protein and high sugar fruit for 3 hrs or more before sleep - if hungry, eat carbs like bread/bagel/toast or a big bowl of green salad.

If sleep is a real problem - make changes and do something about it.

I always eat before bed. I actually lose weight if I don't - and I can't afford to lose weight. I frequently have strange dreams, but rarely a nightmare, and I haven't been able to connect any particular foods to bad dreams. Some people swear that food can cause bad dreams, but I've never heard anyone say so who can pin down exactly which foods they eat that they consistently have bad dreams after eating.

I was on the phone with Terra for several hours after my last bad dream - and it was bizarre but it had her in it so I called her. After some conversation it was revealed that the setting of the dream was her pole barn, which I'd not any real idea of the layout of until the conversation. My dream was quite accurate. She also found out later that there is actually a swamp where I described it to be. Her husband and she were discussing a particular subject about that place right while I was dreaming the same subject about it, albeit, my dream was a bit more drastic (to say the least).

In other words - sometimes bizarre in your sleep can be bizarre after you wake up, too. When it comes to dreams - we can only suggest. There are no conclusive answers - not from scientific research nor from superstition or metaphysics. Dreams are whacked. Period.

As long as you maintain the word 'impossible' as part of your psychological vocabulary, you will never achieve your goals in life. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. So checking in with a recent crazy dream.

I was on a motorcycle driving fast through one of those baseball parks that are made for league play.

There were about three fields altogether and I was driving on the road in between them headed somewhere fast.

People didn't really seem to mind, but I noticed a few looked at me curiously.

Suddenly I had this drive to get out of there as fast as I could, so I accelerated as fast as it would go.

I parked and jumped off the bike and entered a building.

I walked quickly (so as not to call any attention to myself).

For some reason, I didn't want the people in there to notice me,
so I walked as fast as I could past them all.

Once I got to the door, I flung it open and started to run down the stairs.

Now here's where it gets dark.

Literally.

It's one of those winding staircases from centuries past.

Everything is dark brown, rusted and darkness winding down and down.

I sense I'm being chased by the people still on the other side of the door. They have evil intentions.

So I have to start running down the stairs.

But what if I fall? There was nothing but a bottomless darkness in the middle of the stairs that winded around and down and down.

I couldn't see the bottom of the stairs either. I could see a few hundred feet down, but then it was all just darkness.

I didn't want to start running down the stairs for a couple of reasons.

First, if I slipped or fell, I could fall into the black hole of never-ending darkness.

The other reason was, I didn't know if I somehow eventually got to the bottom, if there was even a door or other way out, or if I'd be stuck down there after hours spent reaching it.

But I had to make some kind of choice.

I could feel the anxiety pulsing through my veins as my heart rate accelerated even faster
than the bike could go earlier.

So I start running down the stairs and after a couple of minutes I stop and then run back up to the top,
near the door again where I started, still in the same dilemma.

But this time, whoever was chasing me was right at the door and about to open it.

I had to do whatever I was going to do right now.

Not sure if you consider that a nightmare or not. In mine, someone usually dies - often brutally.

So - what is it that you are making decisions about that you feel might be real bad news if you make the wrong one? What about the decision scares you so bad?

Yes, the dream ended right there.

And you know, the dark wasn't just dark, it was dark and menacing if that makes any sense.

I think if I could have seen to the bottom it wouldn't have been so bad or at least known what would have come next?

Your dreams are all about processing. Only you will be able to interpret them. Pay attention to how it makes you feel , what emotions do you feel when you think of the dream. Perhaps you are feeling your hands are tied in life at the moment or there is something you cannot touch or feel as if you have no control over what you are touching in life on a regular basis.Like I said only you will know what it means.....dreams are processing our emotions and thoughts that we may not be processing in our day. If there is not an affect from it , don't worry too much...sometimes you need to process it in your dreams and that is enough . Be beautiful.....Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I had a dream last night that I had a pet elephant, only thing is, it was made of jelly. At one point it became my Aunt Delia before becoming my dog. During all this there was a strange lady with me whose hair was made out of that spaghetti you get in a can, the stuff that's covered in tomato sauce, it was literally dripping off her head. When I woke up I was really hungry.

Does that mean I was unconsciously concerned I should have eaten that last pea before I finished dinner?

I seem to remember feeling a sense of loneliness for it as my plate was taken away and the pea was left on it's own. It seemed to be looking back at me with a sad face.

Think back at the more boring conversations you've had in your life - I'll bet many of them involved you trying to look interested as someone else described (in agonizing detail) their dream....

If your dreams are increasingly weird - you might want to look closely at your 'awake' life to see if it's headed the same direction.

Yes, those brownies do bring on the funny dreams.

In fairness I don't actually remember my dreams that often though I do have those funny bits where people become other people and I did once dream that an ex girlfriend had spaghetti head. I remember that well because in the dream it was totally normal, I didn't bat an eye lid. When I woke up at about 3 in the morning I spent the next 10 minutes laughing.

In dreams such as these, I've found that reciting the Lord's Prayer is an effective response. Typically, I will wake up before I can finish saying the prayer. Reciting a short, Buddhist prayer (mantra) over and over has also worked.
