Problems with real username

I just wrote quite a long thread (for me at least) seeking some advice. Then I thought I can't post it because I use my real name for my username, if only my first name, and it isn't really that common a name. It's not uncommon but it's not common common. It's nothing personal but just to do with a certain business I am in, and the people in the same business also might frequent this forum and would easily figure out it was me because of the details in what I was asking, which also involves them although no names would have been mentioned.

I thought of another two forums I visit I could ask in. One of them I also use my real name so can't ask there because the same problem, and the other where I don't use my real name, one of the people that my question involves is definitely a member there and the question would 100% give me away.

From now on I've decided that if I join anymore forums I won't be using my real name but instead will be calling myself something less conspicuous like Barbara, after the bush.

That's fine then, Barbara. Or would you prefer to be called Miss/Mrs/Ms (delete where appropriate) Bush?

Sounds like a plan, Barbara After The Bush.

    Then again....

    (there's always that, eh?)

Consider the reason why you don't feel comfortable expressing a thought under a real name. (I'm being serious -- and old, perhaps.)

If you think about this issue a little further, I think you'll discover a good reason to behave a certain way no matter what environment you're in. It's like "work behavior." It doesn't have to end when we get home, and the same niceties that we extend our coworkers can (and should) be the same as we extend to our own families and friends. Not always possible, but God knows, I sure wish people would try.

Alistair, if you submit a request via the helpdesk, you can probably get your username changed. Thomas isn't there any more, but I imagine the facility still exists.

Yes . . but to Barbara? They'll probably think he's had a sex change as well.
