Frog or Lizard and Why ?

I grew up as a kid who either loved lizards and hated frogs. And vice versa.


Me, Iam a lizard guy. How about you?

    I like tree frogs and the little lizards..... don't see why it has to be 'either/or'...


    edit: - but I don't like the 'clear' lizard in the deep south...twice my cat caught one of those and it affects the nervous system for a couple days. Cat walked like he was drunk until the toxin was out of his system.


    On the coast I had a high window (6 ft above the floor of the room). The glass was only about 18 in high but the window was about 6 feet in width. Had a lamp that was near that window and at night I'd watch the lizards and the tree frogs moving around on the outside of the glass where the light drew insects. Obviously didn't take much to entertain me....

    Couple years ago I saw a group of 6 inch to 8 inch lizards in slow motion surround a small frog. The intentions of the lizards was obvious. They formed a tight circle around that frog - perfectly still. The frog sat perfectly still and I am sure ready to jump if one lizard made a move. It was a standoff!


    On the outskirts of the lizards/frog I noticed a group of red ants stealthily sneaking up on the lizards and frog. Boom, a lizard dashed in at the frog and Boom the frog jumped over the group of lizards and landed right in the middle of the fire ants. Game over for the frog.


    As soon as the lizards saw it they all turned and ran away in the opposite direction. They instinctively wanted nothing to do with the fire ants.


    Poor lizards ran straight into a snake.


    The animal kingdom is not only the survival of the fittest.. maybe survival of the smartest.

    A group of dinosaurs turned up for a reptile shoot at David Attenborough's house. After 10 minutes he fired the lot of them. Dinosaurs are Terrible Lizards

            Nature is tough. That was a hatchling's welcome to the World. I've seen the full segment and watched this clip probably a dozen times over the years and each time I'm shouting "Run! Run like the wind!".

                I've thought about the snakes too, but it's so hard to root for snakes especially in this case. I think I'm the only person on the planet that roots for hyenas against lions.


                I really enjoy all nature documentaries and especially Attenborough.

              Spoiler...there was a TV documentary about this video and the guide went back the next day to see if he could find the calf. He didn't find a carcass and said he didn't see any buzzards in the sky in the area so he thinks the calf survived. Amazing.

                There was recently another documentary series by David Attenborough. I think it was Dynasties.

                It was magnificently shot. But I could only watch the first few episodes. I'm a full grown man, but watching animals being attacked...dying....it's too sad to watch.

                I always cheer for the one being chased....or the one being attacked. It's high drama, to be sure.

          I watched the documentary. It's impressive how these people will stay out in the wild for a year...just to get the shots they want. High drama.

            I saw a documentary about wildlife cameramen and it was pretty much a guy/gal sitting in a tree being eaten by bugs for 3 days hoping a leopard would walk by. We see the highlights of their sacrifices not all the stuff they have to go through to get those shots.

            I was watching an archeology doc with a friend and he asked why I didn't become an archeologist since I was interested in it. I replied that I didn't want to dig holes with a paint brush.

          Yes. The gila monster is mildly poisonous. One lizard out of 10,000 species.

                Hmmmm...after a little research (30 seconds) there's actually a few more venomous lizards. In addition to gila monsters and Komodo dragons there's also beaded lizards and some species of iguanas. I just wish the iguanas you had growing up were the venomous ones...

                So the count has risen from Claude's zero venomous lizards, not even counting frogs, to at least 5 depending on how many species of iguanas are venomous and since the article uses plural we know it's two or more species of iguanas.

    For whatever reason, when I was a kid, I enjoyed having a couple of iguanas as pets.

    Snakes are a turn off for most people, and I don't really like them either. No idea why. Maybe because they can't blink.. But lizards have limbs, can blink, and look less alien than snakes.

    Frogs? Never interested me. I also had a few Bearded Dragons several years ago. Very tame, easy to feed. But the crickets they ate had mites that I found out was severely allergic to. So I eventually had to give the little Dragons away.

    The good news about the Bearded Dragons was that they didn't get me up at 5AM every morning to feed them, and sharpen their claws on the furniture. But a cat that sits in your lap, sleeping away the evening? A real treat.

        As a scientist, I can tell you that frogs see things that we do not. They have over 500 senses, see in multiple dimensions, speak several languages at birth, and perceive time as one event.

        Anyway, I interviewed a frog once, and that's what he told me. He was an old wise frog. I was sorry to hear that a week after we talked, he croaked.

        And never...NEVER call a frog crazy. Just a word to the wise.
