$600'000 for a Guest Post?!

While working on expanding my outreach database, I contacted The New York Times.

I asked them what is the price for a guest post / sponsored post.

While they say that they don't accept those, they do have a product called "PAID POSTS", which cost a staggering $600'000.

See for yourself:

Not bad for an article, eh?

    That's hilarious

Anyone who has spent even a few weeks doing SEO knows you can get a DO FOLLOW editorial links from high SEO metric sources for a FRACTION of what the NYT is charging

Thankfully, there's a FREE way to get NYT backlinks

    How? Look up OkCupid's stories

Those types of links from the NYT are pretty worthless.

For the kind of exposure and traffic you can get, assuming this post is going to be featured on their home page or inside a major category, that seems like a pretty reasonable price.

Honestly I thought this was about writing a guest post, and it generating $600,000.

Did you know that 80% (as of a few years ago) of a newspaper's content is produced by PR services? The newspaper just finds interesting articles and posts them. It's free marketing. It's faster and easier than them paying a reporter to write the darned thing.

And sometimes they make it up; I saw a cat story, with an image l saw for sale elsewhere, or it was god know who's cat, so the story may or may not be true, but the image certainly wasn't.

I think that the story was about her deceased cat that she missed terribly, with a funny but fake image.

I don't want to believe that the paper did a cut and paste.

But this sort of BS does happen, l remember also going to the Melb, Intern, Flower Show years ago, with the so called twilight one, (which everyone had to pay $25 bucks for each) and it was heavily raining with nowhere to have dinner, except bails of hay in the rain, with overpriced fish and chips bieing the only real meal available.

We thought, stuff that and passed, but a few days later the paper said, that the twilight or dark version for that crap day, was a big success, no it wasn't.

Or as they say in 2012, if an authority figure tells you it is safe, you run like hell!

It costs nothing to write an article for them. Their editors are always looking for relevant content.

People that produce content are always looking for more content. One of the easiest things to do is write an article for a newspaper/blog/magazine, as long as it fits their narrative....and get it published with a link.

People that have podcasts and do interviews....getting interviewed is easy. These podcasters are always looking for someone to interview, as long as the subject matches their audience.

And finding someone to interview is very easy......every author wants to be interviewed, by anyone. Experts pay to get listed in directories..so they can get called to be interviewed.

Getting speaking gigs is easy. Event planners are starving for speakers to fill slots at events. (during non-Covid times). And finding speakers is easy. Every author will speak, some for free, if they can sell their books/educational materials at the event.

The most common arrangement is that money doesn't exchange hands. If you want paid for an article, it's a tougher process. If you want paid for a speaking gig, or to be interviewed...that's a different business. But the freebies? Those are everywhere.

'Perhaps this is a product for your clients?'

    Yeah....maybe.....not for $600,000 though...
