There is a thread about fav actors...

There is a thread about least fav actors...

But in your opinion, who's a good actor whether you like them or not???

I'll go with Russel Crowe.

I know it's him but he makes everything I've seen him in believable.

I go for older guys (of the 60's/70's!). To me it's as though comedians can do now wrong.

I think Val Kilmer's a good actor and I'll tell you why: Because unlike many other actors whose personas seem to be the same no matter the file, no matter the role, Kilmer is able to effectively step into completely different characters/personas.

Billy Bob Thorton - He's really versatile and can play about any role. Comedy, drama, good guy, bad guy, smart, dumb.

Kathy Bates - Always creates a great character.

I like Wynona Ryder. She played some quirky characters when she was younger. Her shoplifting incident seems to have ruined her reputation as an actress.

I think Sean Penn is also about as good an actor as there is...But he's another that has had his real-life personality taint how people feel about his acting. "Spicoli" is an all-time classic character, and Penn can play both comedy and drama equally well. I thought he out-acted De Niro in "We're No Angels". The movie wasn't that good, but I thought both De Niro and Penn played their parts well.

Don Cheadle - He's also underrated and versatile. First saw him as "Mouse" with Denzel Washington in "Lady in Blue Dress"...Plus we went to the same high school.

I think all the above are great actors...But, none of them have the star power that will make me watch a movie just because they are in it, which is why none of them are on my "faves" list. But I do like to see them when I watch a movie.

Great one Kurt. She always added so much to any movie she was in. Never
really got to be a big star.

Adam Sandler is a great actor. He is so funny in Big Daddy!! I laughed so hard when Sunny and Frankenstein tripped the roller blader going down the hill. I would recomened this movie to anyone that likes Adam Sandler movies.

I enjoy watching how Robert Downey Jr. performs on the set, many of his movies, are a total success because of his personality, his way of getting into the character. I am waiting for Iron Man 2, I cannot wait to watch it in the movie theater.

Agree on Robert Downie Jr, Iron Man 2 should be awesome.

Jonny Depp is fantastic too, he can play all sorts of characters.

There have been lots of good actors who never really were big stars.

Off the top of my head...

Jack Elam (played some wild characters)
Lloyd Buchner (could do comedy and drama)
Henry Daniel (watch him as Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes)

I could probably come up with a list of 200 or more if I wanted to...people
who, without them, the big stars would have had nobody to play off of.

For me, it has to be Johnny Depp. Guy is underated and I can't believe he has never won an oscar.

I love the kind of characters he plays. So diverse and makes it look so believable.

Winning a oscar can be tricky.

A safe formula is to denigrate yourself as much as possible and you'll almost always receive serious consideration.

Liz Taylor won here first ( and only? ) oscar when she played a prostitute in Butterfield 8.

      Same goes for...

      - Kim Basinger

      Even...

      - Shirley Jones in Elmer Gantry

      - Tom Hanks: Plays gay dude in Philadelphia

      - Michael Douglass: Play Wall Street bad guys personified.

      - Holly Berry had to holler "make me feel good" over and over again before she got killllled by Billy Bob Thornton to win her Oscar.

      - Look at Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou:

      - What about what Sharon Stone did to win her Oscar in that movie with Mike Douglas?

      - Denzel had to get whipped to win his first Oscar and for his second he played a super dirty cop - so out of his normal character.

      - I knew without a doubt that Monique would win the Oscar as she played the worst mother of all time.

Check the people and roles that won Oscars and many played very denigrating roles.

      Underrated? Really?

He's only one of the most famous actors in the world and one of the elite few that can demand $20 million a film.

If that's what it means to be underrated...count me in!

That fact that he hasn't won an Oscar only makes him that much better.

But apparently they were very good at playing it.

One I really like is bruce willis. Surprisingly, hugh laurie is no slouch. We may all know him as house, but what about as the father on stuart little? I mean GEE, he is playing two extremes there. Of course, bruce willis, whether playing a crazy guy, invicible, or the daredevil police officer with the HORRIBLE luck, does well also.

I like jackie chan also. He has shown great range.

As for penn? He was KICKED OFF A SET once, because he was so LOUSY in the role! Luckily, for him, one guy INSISTED that he sneak on the set later, after practicing. He got the role as spicolli. But taps, I am sam, falcon and the snowman, etc..., show he is a good actor. Pity that, as a person, he seems more like spicolli(IRONICALLY)!

I think Robert Deniro is a great actor but my daughter had a very hearty laugh when he acted like he was crying in some movie where he wanted to hook up with his children that were spread all over the USA.

Can't remember the name of the movie but my daughter thought his acting - while crying was pretty funny.
