Lack of sleep could lead us to an early grave

Too much marijuana? I generally sleep about 5 hours a day. My wife needs eight to nine hours, so I get a lot of me time.

Might be worth consulting with a doctor. Certain things like iron deficiency can cause fatigue and are easy to fix.

Or maybe you're just sleeping too much. Maybe if you cut back an hour or two, you will actually feel less tired...

Now, if 4 hours a day was enough that would be really great. But somehow - I doubt it. When I sleep 4 hours a day (which does happen more often than I'd like) I am REALLY tired.

Could be sleep apnea.

LOL..... Might as well make some revisions on your will.... just kidding man.....

I've got a wife and child (and another on the way!).... so I mostly work when they sleep... which leaves me very little time for sleep myself...lolz

Is that what your doctor tells you?

Sleep brings you energy - and therefore MORE passion and happiness into your life. Your mind is sharper, so you're more productive.

Coming from someone who drinks coffee every single day, there really is no substitute for a good night's sleep. Trust me on that one.

Here are a few things you could think about:

# Sleep deprivation has been linked to cancer, diabetes and of course a whole pile of deaths and serious injury due to accidents.

# Sleep reduces the stress hormone cortisol in the body and the time it takes to do that varies but around 8 1/2 hours is a good goal for most people.

# In communities deprived of artificial light people sleep on average closer to 9 1/2 to 10 hours a night suggesting our bodies evolved getting that much sleep.

If you need 10 hours of sleep to feel healthy then you should strive to get that.


# Different people have different levels of alertness at different times of the day.

Some people are more alert in the morning after waking, some are more alert in the evening before sleep.

This is probably a survival strategy. In a tribe if everyone was alert at the same time you would be more vunerable to attack.


# Bright lights and sunshine can inhibit or stop the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.

Sleeping in a room that is as dark as possible is a huge help.

Light in the red spectrum doesn't inhibit melatonin production so if you have a night light or a light you use when you get up in the night to go to the bathroom it helps if it's red.


# Our bodies run on a 25 hour clock that needs resetting every day otherwise we'll tend to go to sleep one hour later each day.

Things that help reset the clock include exercising first thing in the morning (or when you get up) and getting direct or indirect exposure to sunlight or very bright lights.



# If you feel sleepy or tend to nod off mid afternoon then you're almost certainly sleep deprived. Get more sleep lol.

Being that the only real time I have to get focused work done is when my two kids are sleeping at night, I don't get much sleep, but I am working on it. I aim for at least 7 hours but usually end up with about 6 hours a night.

Last summer my husband got laid off and I was freelance writing at the time and I had to kick it into gear so I could make up the difference in money. At that time I was getting at the most 5 hours of sleep. Sometimes I would only get 3 hours and then have to be up with a baby and a toddler all day long. It definitely does affect your health as I was sick three times in three months during that time and that is not the norm for me.

Ha made me laugh- I get about 5 and 1/2 hrs which I can usually tell after a couple of days is not enough then the weekend comes and no school for my daughter so I sleep in.

I've heard 6.5 hours to 7 hours is sufficient for adults.
