Is 2,000 words too long for a thread?

I've seen some big threads around on forums and I just started writing one and it turned into about 2,000 words in no time.

Do you think this is too long for a thread?

Just in case it is, I didn't end up posting it just yet, rather saved it on my computer.

Can you break it up into several topics?

I don't know about the others, but I tend to have a short attention span when I'm reading stuff on a forum and skip long posts.

      Great suggestion!

There's no such thing as too long or too short... only too boring.
If the content is compelling the length is irrelevant.

Yes, if you can't get to the point in a few sentences, perhaps you should write a book and sell it in your sig file.

Some posts that are long are pretty good. The ones that give some instruction. But some of them (to be fair, both long and short) make for kind of sleepy reading.

I think this is going to play some part of it. It's amazing that this is one of the largest things I've written during my time in IM but I am really enjoying it, so it will be interesting how people take it.

When the posts have interesting information in them, I will read really long ones. I think it is possible to tell after a couple of sentences which ones are good info and which are people with a lot of time on their hands.

          Sometimes I get fooled though.

Yeah, well for me lol it is a good read and I've enjoyed writing it. I think I might split it up into smaller posts, especially since I just wanted to add something and ended up writing 400+ more words. So it looks like it will be multiple posts.

If you create headings for various paragraphs of say 200-400 words each, then I don't think it will be a problem.

Yeah, I currently have that. So it will be easy to split up into smaller threads if need be, but they do link nicely together.

2,000 words for a thread is too long. Sometimes I don't read a thread which is too long, because I think it's boring. In my opinion, a thread should not be too long, only describe a issue clearly is just OK.

You now have me interested in what you have to say.

Next question, when are you going to post it.

I ready to start the journey of your long post.

Yeah, but when all the points are really sub issues of one major issue, what do you do?

If it's 2,000 words detailing the precise strategy you used to earn over $110,000 in three days, starting from scratch, with zero experience or technical expertise, using nothing but a free Blogger blog, a Mailchimp autoresponder, the Google keyword tool, and a Oiuja board...then that would be super.

If it's 2,000 words about how we really ought to be nicer to one another, and how Internet marketing is really just the same information rehashed over and over again...then we can probably do without.

If it's something else, use your best judgment.

If I remember correctly, the maximum number of characters the forum allows you to post in a thread is 5,000. It's done automatically. So, assuming an average of 5 letters per word, you may have to trim it a bit, or make it two posts in a row.

However, I would personally ignore anybody telling you it's too long.

It's your post. Make it as long as you want. If people don't want to read that much, then they aren't the right readers for your info. That's not a good or bad thing, it's just the way it is. So...

    Post away!

    All the best,
    Michael

If it's too long, I'll just make a post right after with the rest of the thread.

If you feel it will be valuable to someone, dont worry about the ones who pass it up... as Michael said. It'll be read by the ones who its valuable to.

Dude. Um...it's a forum. Say what you want to and if people don't wanna read it they won't. I've read some very long posts that were good enough to read over again and also can honestly say........some of those 200 - 400 word posts are pure crap. They're just crap that ends a lot faster.

People will read anything at least for a few sentences.
