So they've just released all the details..!

Specs..
Apple - iPad - View the technical specifications for iPad.

Pics from the event..
Live from Apple's iPad 2 event (update: it's over!) -- Engadget

The best release of 2011?

I've sold my old one last week ready to buy this - and I'm not disappointed. 10 hours battery life - that's going to get me through any long haul flight!

Anyone else slowly moving over to Apple? I use Windows when I'm at home but slowly moving over to Apple products because of this thing!

I got my iPad the first day it come out last year (crossed the border to get one because Canada got shafted at launch)

It is a nice update but if you already have the first iPad, I dont think there is enough there to truly make it worth the upgrade.

The only thing I really would like is the new A5 chip but even if I sell my iPad and invest in a new one it's not worth paying the extra few hundred dollars just to have the privilege of owning the latest and greatest.

A new iPad will come out every year and I will probably upgrade mine every 2-3 years based on what features are added. Next year they will have an even FASTER chip and hopfully what I'm really holding out for... a new high rez display that was left out on the iPad 2.

Could not care less about the addition of the camera as its fun at first but I never use the one hardly on my iPhone 4... Let alone one of a device that cant conveniently fit in my pocket 24/7.

Just found the old iPad was 10 hours...!! I thought it was less than that !!! I didn't realize. The sales pitch is 'a lot thinner - but the same battery life'... why didn't they keep the size the same (which lets be honest is small) and increase battery life!!

Can't grumble I guess.. it really is incredible. That simple magnetic cover that puts it into sleep and cleans the screen when not in use is just pure genius.

Really like that feature too! reminds me of what my blackberry did when i put it into a blackberry holster... I hope they bring this tech to their iPhone 5 too!

What I don't like is how it leaves the back unprotected. Lets face it most the time you set it down is on its back, not the screen... and that aluminum body scratches and scuffs pretty easy, making it look like crap unless you protect it with an iPad 1 style case anyway.

I have a screen protector on my ipad and have it in a wallet. (Both bought from ebay BTW, I wasn't paying Apple type stupid prices for them)

I love my Ipad, it gets a huge amount of use. I bought the 64g at the end of last Oct and don't plan to upgrade just yet. I just don't see the point.

So what's the big difference between Ipad 1 and Ipad 2 except for the 2 camera's,hdmi and weight? Ipad 2 is a joke, am glad I sold my ipad two months back. Getting ready for some great andriod tablets.

Why does it have 2 cameras? So you can film yourself at the same time you film your friend? Using the ipad to take pics is just silly, better to use the iphone.

The ipad is good when you travel, but thats about it.

I don't have an iPhone or the iPad because, well, I feel like I'll spend all my extra time (which is not much) playing addicting games lol. However, one of my friends that LOVES apple products says the new iPad is disappointing. I think its wise to never buy 1st generation anything. So maybe the iPad 2 will be the time to buy. Who knows.

I think this is a good general rule of thumb to apply to buying anything, whether it is cars or computers. A lot of the technology and software is pretty much unproven with a first generation product, and can result in many annoying and problematic issues (Apple is not immune to this either).

I'm pretty sure you mean the iPhone 5?

It pretty much depends on what you need to use it for. Remember that getting the iPhone is going to entail locking yourself into a 2 year contract with AT&T or Verizon at pretty steep monthly rates, so it wouldn't make much sense if you're presently using another phone that is on contract.

You know you have your business running smoothly when you can manage your operation and outsourcers from an iPad.

The improvements are not earth shattering, some are disappointed the screen pixel density was not increased, like in the iPhone 4's retina display which is close to the pixel resolution of the iPad.
There were no advance predictions that the new iPad would have internal magnets to hold on the new screen cover design. The aftermarket accessory people must be busy.

You can now but a refurbished iPad 1 from Apple for $349.

    Update:

There are several short excerpts of the announcement event on Youtube, Apple has put up a 77 minute Quicktime video of the keynote speech by Steve Jobs. He sure has changed since he was the young man with a bow tie introducing the Mac 27 years ago. (Pancreatic cancer and liver transplants will do that to you)
He cites some interesting stats: near 15 million iPad sales in the last 9 months of 2010 generating 9.5 Billion dollar revenue. 3rd party app developers have earned 2 billion dollars (mainly for apps used in the 100 Million iPhones sold)

There are USB adapters, the new Digital AV Adapter has an HDMI and USB connector (primarily used for charging) but there's a limited number of devices with IOS drivers, there's a usb-midi adapter combo that allows pro keyboards to control several iPad music apps, or to use the iPad as a freaky controller.

The Apple camera adapter kit comes with a usb and SD slot.

USBfever provides the same function with a better integrated package.

It pays for itself the first time you spend the day on a cool train ride along the coast and write your next eBook with it, upload the eBook and sell 100 copies the following week.

Depending on what you do in IM an iPad can be all you need.

Of course you can do the same thing with a Droid phone or pad.

    Portable is great.

Three years ago I did all my work at home, Two years ago half of it and now almost none of it.

George, while you could conceivably write a whole ebook on a touchscreen device (I wouldn't do it myself as I couldn't live without touch typing), isn't the whole purpose of a leisurely train ride to enjoy the scenery and your company that's with you?
