Bev Clement In Hospice

I wanted to post this in the main forum so everyone would see it. If the mods think it is important enough, let me know and I can put this headline in the main forum with a link over to this thread.

I received an email from Rob this morning. Here are a few parts of it:

"Hi all

Please take a seat and a deep breath before you read this. I do not want to speak negatively but I must pass on what I have been told in the last 2 days.

Over it all the promise I have for Bev right from the start of this is John 11:4 "This sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God."

We were asked permission to have her moved from Singleton to Ty Olwen. Ty Olwen is a hospice in the grounds of Morriston hospital but is the center for palliative care. The aim was for the pain and her sickness to be dealt with there before moving on to other treatments.

While I was there I asked to see the doctor. The doctor's message was quite clear. Bev is very sick and is not likely to leave Ty Olwen alive. While I was there they changed the medication in the driver and Bev went asleep. She would not even wake for her food.

Today (Saturday) I went in this morning to see Bev and there was a little improvement, but she was not responsive and not waking at all. I went again this afternoon and another doctor asked to see me. (both doctors are registrars at Ty Olwen). This doctor made it very clear that they are not happy that Bev should be so far "out of it" (my term) with a low dosage of this painkiller. Also her breathing is not normal. She has a sequence of shallow breaths followed by a very deep one.

I do not want to be the bearer of bad news but I needed to tell you all what I have been told by the doctors looking after Bev.

It looks like Bev and Rob need all the energy or prayer or good thoughts we can send to them. The entire cancer ordeal has been very trying for both of them.

  This is the saddest news I've heard in a long time at this forum.
  
  There are no words other than I will pray for her and hope for, what I guess
  the doctors would call, a miracle.
  
  I think it was my mother who said, "Where there is life, there is hope."
  
  Here is hoping Bev.

I haven't been to WF for a while and I didn't know Bev was ill. But to find out she is so ill is really shocking. We live in the same neck of the woods and I know Morriston Hospital well, my husband has to go there for regular check ups for his vascular disease.

My sympathies go out to her husband because I know how difficult this must be for him.

Bev helped me in my early days with sound advice and I will always be grateful to her.

This is all very sad and Bev is in my thoughts...

More like Cheynes-Stokes breathing.

And, while CHF is quite nasty -- I have met people who have managed to make their way back out of it.

But this is a different situation altogether ...

Miracles do happen -- I know of one quite recently.

And physicians are "keepers of doom." Their place as authority figures helps to "hypnotize" others into others believing their statements of doom, making them come true. (Don't get me wrong, I do have a lot of respect for physicians ... )

Here's wishing Bev well on what ever journeys God has planned for her, and for Rob as well.

I'm so sorry to hear this particularly after Bev posted on facebook that things were looking up not that long ago but still difficult.
My thoughts and prayers for Bev and Rob at this extremely difficult time.

That's awful...she was always nice and gave good stuff when I saw her post though I don't know her personally...

To provide some positive news, my old boss at my library job in college survived cancer through extreme odds as well as a really close college friend of my girlfriend who had an extreme head ache only to find out it was leukemia and he needed tons of surgery and treatment. Within 10 months he was in full remission.

I only offer these stories because both of these people survived extreme odds and I hope some how that provides an example of positivity for her...hopefully this doesn't appear insensitive I just always like to try to submit positive outcome stories because it always helps me when I have problems (though I haven't experienced anything even near a breath as bad as this). Call it youthful naivety...

I hope she gets better...even at the darkest hour miracles do happen...here's to hoping that will happen....

  Just under three years ago Bev took me into her " Monkey, Tiger and Guinea Pigs " program.
  
  I still bless her for her tutelage when I succeed at something and curse myself when I fail, meaning I did not listen to her sufficiently.
  
  I have missed her posts from the time she became ill and will continue to.

  I last heard from Bev six weeks ago and since then I've been afraid this might come soon. I didn't want to put it in words but the news doesn't surprise me.
  
  My heart goes out to Rob - I know he's been an anchor for Bev during this past year. I'm so glad she is getting care that keeps the pain at bay.

  True story about Bev Clement, who joined this forum about 6 months before
  I did.
  
  When I first got here, I almost self destructed on day 1...making 80 posts
  in that one day.
  
  While almost the entire forum, with few exceptions, was ready to tar and
  feather me and throw me to the wolves, Bev was one of the few who, while
  cautious, gave me a chance.
  
  She pointed out to the members that while I was posting up a storm, my
  posts were not one liners and actually contributed. She basically asked that
  I be given a chance while also warning me to be careful and that I would
  be watched.
  
  As you know, Bev really watched out over this forum and guarded it with
  her life against those who would seek to take advantage of its members.
  
  Point is, she was fair and didn't crucify until the evidence was in.
  
  But make no mistake about it. Had I turned out to be what many thought
  I was, Bev would have been the first one to expose me.
  
  It was because of Bev, and the few people like her (Dr. Mani comes to
  mind) that I am still here today to even post this.
  
  Bev is truly an exceptional person.
  
  I say is because she is still with us. And I have seen too many miracles
  to write this true warrior off just yet.
  
  Bev, if you can hear me...you made a difference in my life here.
  
  And for that, I will always be grateful.
  
  Now get well and come back to us.
  
  I truly believe that nothing is impossible.

Bev and Rob are two of the most genuine and helpful people I've had the pleasure to know, to learn Bev's so seriously ill is devastating.

While never having interacted with Bev personally, I have read many posts by her over the years. She is one of those people that I stop to read.
My considerable empathy goes out to her and her loved ones.
I was surprised a couple of months ago to find a thread on the main forum about her condition...now saddened by this news.

  Bev is one of the best, there's no doubt about it. She is a Warrior's Warrior. This place is a much better place because of her participation over the years and the help she gave to this community while she was active still has long term effects even to this day.
  
  I lost my sister to cancer in January and am reminded daily that we are only here but for a brief period of time even though it can seem like an eternity every now and then.
  
  Peace be with you Bev and Rob. And know that the difference you have made in people's live's here is truly substantial.

I have never had the chance to interact with Bev directly, but I have seen her on the WF and from what I've seen, I know it's someone I'd respect.

Thank you for the notice, Don. I was just wondering how she was doing the other day.

Bev's worked hard, but one thing she's never had to work at was gaining the trust and love of thousands of people. Her caring and loyal nature just came naturally - and freely. She has been an inspiration to many who may have given up without her encouragement. By the grace of God, let her knowledge that she is so widely loved serve as inspiration for her now.

Bev skyped me on the 23rd March to say she was back in hospital with swelling to her legs and she was in a lot of pain. I wondered why I hadn't heard from her since.

I'm just so sorry to hear that she's in the final stages, but God willing she is not in any more pain.

She did say Rob has been truly wonderful whilst caring for her, apparently he's been a real blessing.

I have been meaning to check the other thread in the main forum about Bev's condition and now I won't have to. Thanks, Don.

It goes without saying the news sounds grim, but at the same time to believe that miracles do happen, so 'never say die'.

In any case I hope that Bev's suffering will end one way or the other and that she will be free soon.

My prayers and sympathy to her and her husband and family.

Hi, all...

I didn't know Bev, but apparently a lot of you did.

As a pastor, I have seen many people "fight the good fight". I have said a temporary "farewell" to them as well.

If Bev was a believer, I trust that her Lord is with her even now.

I have just prayed for her, for her family and for her friends - many of you.

However tough we think we are, life is short and fragile at best. The truly "tough ones" are also humble and grateful, realizing that all of life is a gift, not to be wasted, and they celebrate that all the way to the end... and its new beginning :-)

I extend my prayers and best wishes to all affected by this news.

Bev was a true believer in the Christian faith, both her and Rob did a great deal of work overseas spreading the Word, your prayers and thoughts for her are much appreciated
