EVERYBODY READ Before Making Another Post on WF

I just want to rant a little bit here so excuse me if this offends anyone..but I have been around here for a little while now,,granted not as long as some of you, but still a fair amount of time to get to know the place.

I do visit probably daily and I post when I think I can add something to the conversation in front of me,,,(perhaps that's why my post count is a lot lower than others with the same time spent here, I surely don't know it all)

But I have come to notice a trend as of late, yes I know it's been going on forever,,,but lately it seems to me to be a bit more prevalent (or I'm just being grumpy as I get older,,sorry)

What is it? Well my plea below should sum it all up, so here is my rant.

1. Before you post a question, why not use the search feature here? It works great. How many times I have seen someone ask for "How important is it to have my keyword in my domain?", or "What is the best CPA". A simple search will yield 100's if not 1000's of responses,,,far more than your thread will probably get.

2. And speaking of responses, why is it that people see the question from the OP and hit reply immediately without reading what other responses have been made? I commend everyone who wants to post something that will help out the OP, but to me it tends to make you look careless if what you post is the exact same as the 3 above you...just my thoughts.

3. And speaking of wanting to help,,,once again I commend you, but if you have no idea what you are talking about in a reply to an OP , why even bother? Is it just an attempt to get post count?

4. And speaking of post count,,,why do I see as of late some of the most useless post ever from people. I mean today I saw a post where the OP was asking a perfectly valid question on how to solve a simple little problem and the reply below was "Thanks for posting this useful information" there was nothing useful in the OP, it was a valid question,,so what the heck was the reply about?

Okay that's the end of my rant,,,slam away, I can take it.

Oh and BTW,,,no I did not search the forums to see if this was brought up before

It comes up here and there - and people ignore it most of the time. Good points, though.

so what the heck was the reply about
Post by those interested only in their own post count or getting a backlink - they don't care what's going on in the thread. Some are humanoid - some are bots or paid posters.

      @CDarklock,

Good one, Yes that is so true sometimes, experience that myself. But I do find that with just a little bit of digging I can find answers. So maybe yes it is just quicker to fire out the question to begin with.

Like I said, I'm grumpy today,,just celebrated the 5th anniversary of my 45th b-day the other day

The key is the phrase "very common" on the search page.

If this is one of those questions that gets asked over and over again, most of the normal words you would use to ask it are "very common" and will be dumped out of your search.

Which basically guarantees that the "very common" questions can't be looked up, and have to be asked over... and over... and over... and over...

I discovered this when I was f#!king sick of hearing the same questions over and over, so I started trying to run the search and just post the link to it.

It was next to impossible to get any kind of reasonable answers. Once you pretty much know what you're doing, yeah, you have good search-fu and can come up with a new way to ask the question that still gets you where you're trying to go - because the question isn't packed with stopwords, the way most newbie questions are.

Basically, search is pretty damn useless here when you're a newbie. And the really crappy part is that this teaches people not to use the search.

I agree with you 100%, but if I search for-- "is .com better than .net or .org", surrounded by " ", those common words are not thrown out. I know it is a newbie thing and the grumpy old man syndrome that I have.

I think one of the main reasons apart from being Lazy is the other that English is not the first language for some, and of course some fool a few weeks ago just told others just post they will answer.

It is possible they are all typing their responses at the same time - it happens quite a lot.

As stated in your previous point, it is about inflating their post count and/or advertising their signature. It is up to us as members of this forum to hit the report post button every time you see an idiot making useless posts like that. There is no way to stop them from happening but we CAN do something about them once they have been posted.

Report posts like that. They'll be deleted, and if the post is part of a trend of useless posts the user will often be banned. The exclamation mark in the red triangle in the sidebar of each user is for reporting posts.

I'd much rather read a thread someone bumped already that had pertinent information than a pointless new thread. The main value of these threads are the people. It's not a tech support forum where every question is going to have the same answer. There are tons of ways to solve a problem, and there are some amazingly qualified people on the boards.

You got to realize that search can also be your enemy. It can return data on your question, but... The data can be out of date. What worked yesterday may not work today.

This is a social platform. People want to know current opinions. Not yesterdays news.

By telling people to use search before they post would eventually make this a reference site and not a forum for discussion.

So I have no problem at all with people posting the same questions over and over. You can always link to a RECENT thread to help the poster find CURRENT and not outdated information. Or.... Don't click on the thread.

This is kind of an interesting "flipside" to my post. Some information is timeless, and other information is timely. Depends on the topic!

Good point ... and insight. Having the most current information from different points of view and opinions is what makes the W.F ... the "Mack Daddy" of Internet Marketing Forums.

Use the search feature with caution, care and wisdom. Be careful not to use it to discourage new thoughts, opinions or viewpoints.

Internet Marketing is a moving breathing thing that needs constant discussion.

I also don't have a problem with people asking the same questions over and over again. IMHO, you have a choice as to how to react:

      a) you get annoyed and create threads like this one
      b) you tirelessly and nicely answer the repetitive question
      c) you shake your head, move on to the next thread, and go about your business because in the greater schemes of things there are more important things to be concerned about

Me too. I'm trying to get my post count up as well even though I somehow know you cannot from posting in here.

But I will say that some threads have tens of posts. When you have 80 replies and some of them are insanely long, it's hard to read through every single one of them, including the 5 paragraph responses. I try, but sometimes I miss. And yes, some of you might have said that in this thread. Point made and taken. LOL

I don't mind most questions being repeated. But some of them... come on, people... this isn't the babysitter club, either.

      Questions like...

      What is a backlink?
      What does SEO mean?
Does anyone really make money online?
How do I make a PDF?

      And so forth, ad nauseum.

People need to at least Google something once in a while instead of expecting us to do it for them. If someone can't take initiative enough to do that much, is there really much hope of them succeeding??

The flip side is, I've used the search feature here on WF, I've still got some jack wagon telling me "Hey this thread is 3 months old, why are you posting a new comment?".

Uhmmm... maybe because my comment is relevant to the existing thread.
