You haven't been paying attention have you.
We (the west) haven't got a very good track record for that.

Thom is right. The GREAT majority of pakistan is MOSLEM. Almost as many in india are HINDU. Interestingly, the 2 main official languages in both countries are similar. New words added in pakistan are likely to be arabic though. I imagine that pakistan wants all to convert to moslem, and india wants to stay as it is.

Although it loses something in the translation, in scifi, the indians might be the vulcans, and the pakistanis the romulans. BTW BOTH have nuclear power and atomic bombs.

In case people don't get the reference, the vulcans and romulans are similar and reated, but broke apart and became too societies. The vulcans act peaceful, but it is kind of unstable. The romulans want to take everything over. So kind of similar.

            Indian Express:
Claiming that confrontation with Pakistan is the "single most serious threat" to secularism in India, Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar today called for having strategic relations with Islamabad.

            Pakistan today:

Pakistan still believes that India poses "existential threat" to them, even as the US has been pulling them closer to the view that the terrorism is the greater danger to it, a top American commander has said.
"They still believe that India poses their greatest existential threat, although we've been pulling them closer to our view, which would suggest that terrorism is as much a threat to them as it is to us,"

            Fear and mistrust prevails still!

Well, both countries have nuclear weapons but it's unlikely either one of them would use it. The worst case scenario would be the terrorists gaining access (read: be give access) to nuclear power in Pakistan. The civilian government of Pakistan has been trying hard to push the peace process and it has been acknowledged. It's the Army that's the pain in the ass.

As for both countries not signing the NPT, that's because it was totally unfair.

Also it's a lame excuse that Pakistan too is a victim of terrorism. Pakistan is a victim of terrorism from groups like Pakistani Taliban which are just rogue (as Steve said, want everyone to convert to Islam). There are certain groups like the LeT, JuD that don't cause any trouble within Pakistan but work with a anti-India, anti-Israel and anti-West agenda. Hafiz Saeed builds schools in Pakistan and blows up people in India! And the Army protects such people.

Neither country and will go nuclear - no matter what happens between them.

I bet they have a secret agreement to that effect.
