Yeah, I just don't think Blackhawk was as good as The Outlaws or The Henry Paul band.
I saw The Outlaaws in concert right after Hurry Sundown came out.
There were two bands of the same musical style but for the life of me I can't remember who the other was.

I agree. Blackhawk wasn't in the same league with Paul's other bands.
I saw the Outlaws at an outdoors show just outside Columbus Oh.
It was them, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchet, The Allman
Bros. and a couple others I can't recall.
Great Day!
We camped the night before in a huge field about a mile down the road.
There were probably 1,000 or more people there.
I went by this one group sitting around a bon-fire, passing a bottle around.
Thought about joining them until somebody laid a railroad tie on the fire.
Whoever had the bottle would walk on the tie to the middle of the fire and chug as
long as they could stand it.
I decided it was time for me to move on.

Highly recommended reading.

This is the first Jimmy Buffewt tune I ever heard.
I was working 3rd shift at the Champion Paper Co. in Hamilton, Oh.
Working on a Trimmer, loading reams of paper into a carton.
The guy I was working with kept a 5th of Seagrems under the table.
Every break he would buy a can of Pepsi, dump 1/2 of it out and fill the can with the whiskey. By the time 7:00 Am came around most of the 5th was gone.
I'm not sure, but I'm going to guess it was late '74 or early '75.
The album was "Living and Dying In 3/4 Time".

lcombs. we must be close to the same age I know I was maybe 17 or 18 when rockin the filmore came out. Wore the damn vinyl out.

While that was riding high on the airwaves,Frampton had already quit and was about to come out with Frampton comes alive.
This is one of my James Gang songs.
I actually saw The James Gang but Joe Walsh had left by then and Tommy Bolin was playing guitar.Can't complain though,he was a great guitarist too,died way too young.

Joe Walsh :Had a hard time deciding on the album version or this one,album is a cleaner sound but this is pretty darn good:

I think you're refering to "The Box".

And, if I'm not mistaken, Frampton pretty much invented it.

I actually saw The James Gang but Joe Walsh had left by then and Tommy Bolin was playing guitar.Can't complain though,he was a great guitarist too,died way too young.

Both Frampton and Walsh were playing with "new" technology using the (and this is probably not the correct term) vocoder?

The PBS station I've been listening to lately, (WNKU 105.9), has been playing cuts from a new album that Tommy Bolins friends just released.
It's a composite of songs Tommy had written but never recorded.
I tried to find some on Youtube but I can't recall the name of the cuts or the album.
They are very good however.

Oh, and I found this while looking for other things. More Yardbirds,pre Zep doing Dazed and Confused. Imo Robert Plant sounded much better.

I didn't know that. Funny,because I lived in Oklahoma when that came out.But then, Radio was very regional and also most stations were very short ranged. I love the clear nights when I could go outside with my transistor radio and get a signal all the way from the station WLS in Chicago.
A concept a lot of folks can understand nowadays.

There was a bit of controversy when thissong came out. So tame nowadays.

Hate to admit it, but I just watched this video for the first time.
Knew the song and performer so I skipped over it.

Anyway, that's Basil Rathbone playing Sherlock Holmes, Nigel Bruce as Watson, and, if I'm not mistaken, the female character is Irene Adler,
Holmes female arch-nemesis, but, I can't recall the actress' name.
And, I believe, the movie is "A Scandal In Bohemia".

I saw Tull when they were touring to promote Aqualung.
Most bands were not doing large stadiums back then and I saw Tull at the Alexandria Roller rink with Yes opening for them.
It is still to this day one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
The band actually started out as a blues based band.

Cool!
I went to see Tull at Cincinnati Gardens. I guess in '74 or 5.
My brother fretted all week about how was going to sneak in a pint of Beam.
We were among the first ones in and had great seats.
They stadium style seats that automatically folded up when they were vacant.
We sat down and after a few minutes I asked my brother for a sip.
He handed me the bottle. I took a sip and for whatever reason didn't get it back to him. I stuck it between me and the side of the seat.
A couple minutes later I got up to go pee.
The seat flipped up, the bottle fell through and shattered.
I felt like shit!
He had really fretted for a week about how to sneak that bottle in and then never got a taste!
I still feel bad about that. He had just gotten discharged from the army.
So, here's a fitting song to this post.

I wasn't aware that he wrote those songs.
I've always believe that the real talent belongs to the writers.
It's a shame that, for the most part, they don't get the credit they deserve.

Without lyrics we'd have yodling and scatting.
Without music, we have rap.

I agree lcombs.

Allen Toussaint is very talented. Bonnie Rait , Little Feat and many others have covered his songs. I much prefer his version of Southern Nights to Glen Campbell's,but I prefer Robert Palmer's Version f Sneaking Sally Through The alley.

Another writer,who for some mistaken reason I thought had died but apparently I was wrong,thank goodness,is Russ Ballard. He has had his songs covered by bands such as Three Dog Night and Rainbow.

From the comments left on youtube,most don't seem to agree with me,but I think the Eagles did this better than David Blue,the write of it. Don't get me wrong,I love both versions,and have them both on vinyl,but Desperado is a classic album.

Got a t-shirt when I saw these guys at Music Hall in Cincy.
I was just sitting in my aisle seat when everybody stood up and started waving their arms around when a bundle was thrown from stage, bounced off about 3 - 4 people and landed in the aisle next to me. I reached down and picked it up, took the rubber band off

When Crossroads came I around '68 I was 14 years old. I was getting out of school after 1/2 a day. I usually would be walking home and most days I would be lucky enough to have 2 quarters in my pocket.
I'd stop at 7-11,which back then was actually opened from 7-11,and get a Dr.Pepper for a dime and a Red Hot,which the closest thing I can relate it to would be like a polish sausage,but it wasn't one. After I left Oklahoma I never find anything so good again. But I'm on a tangent. That was one quarter gone,that left me with another. I'd get change for the second and go the the strip mall behind the 7-11 and go to the pool hall, where I could play a game of pinball for a nickel and a song in the jukebox for a dime. Everyday I would drop a dime an and play Crossroads by Cream...... those were the days......

Cream wasn't the only band that covered Robert Johnson though. Lots did,but that's another tale.

Foghat was pretty awesome.

But Humble Pie,rockin the filmore was one of the best live albums at the time.
I don't need no doctor is a classic.
Humble Pie was rocking and that was just as Frampton went out on his one and made the other classic live album of the day,Frampton Comes Alive.

I can't remember if it is "The King Biscuit Flower Hour" that I have some albums of or another weekly radio show that was sounding live but actually recorded on records and shipped to the radio stations to be played in whatever time slot they wanted to fill.

And of course, I have to say it is hard to see Daltry and Townson try to stand on stage and say the are The Who ,but back in the day they were awesome.
I love Tommy,and especially Pinball Wizard,but they put out so much great music.
As they like to say; Long Live Rock!

Hey Kim, did Robert Johnson thing to see who would get it.

As for The Who; If was stranded on a remote island and could take one album it would be "Who's Next". The definitive rock album. Every cut is great.
Had the privilege of seeing them in Cinci shortly before Keith died.

Nothing better than cruisin' down the highway about 70 with this blastin' on the box...

I got to say I love both songs and I think the singer in Concrete Blonde has a good voice,but that is the only song that I really like by them that I've found.
The 4 Non Blondes song I heard when I was in Cancun for vacation a lifetime ago. It was during the trance/tech/dance craze so the song had been made into a Dance Mix,but I like the original version( which is what I posted) best.
How can anyone not like Chrissie? I'm pretty sure she had a kid by Ray D too.
Now the Rundgren song,that surprised me the most. I didn't know it was by him til now and I've heard that song for many years,wow.
Of course this is what I will always think of first when I hear his name:
