I have a desktop, installed window 7 in it and now i want to install window 8. but my processor doesn't boot from cd. I have changed my bios setting, my first boot device priority but all in vain . it does not save my setting. Can you please let me know what should I do now. Do i remove my cmos battery or should I flash my bios.?

    Hi,

Did you try it to using external DVD Drive? I think your drive got some error, because you already set the priorities in the boot. I actually tested some of the ways in installing windows 8 in my PC and it works fine. Try to use external DVD drive and a new copy of the software.

    Hope this helps.

It is NOT a battery problem. Flashing has a low chance of success, unless they fixed a compatibility problem.

I hate to say it but it sounds like your not hitting F10,or whatever the key is on your system that saves the changes you make in the bios when you exit.
And Steve is right, not the battery and flashing the BIOS would probably not help either.

thanks to all of you. and kim I have done MCITP . I know how to save and do all things but at this point I was unable to do this correct. so I want some suggestion from my warrior friends may be they know some better option .. yes external dvd is second option .. but this is not the actual solution of the problem . any way thanks to all of you.

Both Steve and myself I would put in the top 10 people that are pretty close to experts with computers, software and hardware.
There are a few other here that I put in that category but they haven't posted.
And sorry, but I have known many MCITPs that really know very little about either.
As far as fixing your problem, define it better. Is it that you want to install Windows 8,which is what you first stated and the external player could probably do that,or the fact that the BIOS isn't saving your settings?

some desktops do tend not to boot from CD/DVD no matter what the bios options are set at. (met a quite a few) but in thoose cases pressing the boot option key normally F8 F11 or F12 (old ibm's ESC key) should let you to choose boot device.
