Google Is A Vindictive Bully

Google displays the traits of a benevolent dictator that becomes increasingly autocratic. I'm finding that they filter out useful sites out of vindictiveness and turf wars as much as trying to filter out whatever.

While I agree to a point, unfortunately we as IM'ers are the minority. The billions of people that use Google apparently love them.

I so agree that they are absolutely unfair, given the power they wield.

I am glad to see many people realize they are not the only search engine in the world.

... and I've been saying for a long time that they are getting "too big for their britches" - hope to see them in lots of anti-trust and other class action lawsuits that may eventually 'put them in their place'. I think some people would be pretty amazed at what seem like 'back room deals' that influence their decisions - and they affect all of us to one degree or another.

But at the same time they amaze me every day - there is no word or topic that you can't type in on the fly and get pages of results instantly.

I guess nobody or nothing is all good or all bad...

    ... Giggle.

Show me anyone that owns a website (for profit) that doesn't want to control their own site/traffic.

    Anyone... Bueller?

I'd say this statement applies to Microsoft as well. The problem is, these companies are so freakin big that even though they have already peaked their influence will linger for decades to come. Look at GE, GM and other giants of old. They could actually be around longer than Keith Richards and cockroaches.

Well if we don't like the beast, we just need to stop feeding it.

Actually, they've never caused me a problem - other than the spying issue and frankly - if you think you can do or say anything in today's world and be sure that it was a private statement, you're dreaming anyway.

As far as manipulation? I don't know. I know I erase a lot of LSO cookies (also known as Super Cookies) so I erase a lot of their targeting abilities. The problem is that the technology is there so any SE that we find preferential is going to go the same route. Once a corporation gets big enough to feed on it's customers they do so.
