I have been thinking about getting an Ipod, not phone, just Ipod.

For a awhile, I thought it was THE device, but now, I'm not so sure.

When I asked someone about the phone they were currently using, the person said it was a Blackberry, that it can do all of what IPod can do, BUT, the apps are FREE vs you have to pay for most apps on the IPod.

Google is coming out with a phone called the Android, also with free apps, so now I wonder how is this gonna stack up .

What do you think?

The iPod is not a supreme product, it just has a superior marketing team behind it. There are much better products out there but without the proper marketing, they just can't compete with iPod.

Ipods are good products. Might want to invest in an ipod touch since it also doubles as an amazon kindle. Many applications are actually free.

The google android phone can actually be downloaded to your desktop so you can test drive it all you want.

There may be better products in terms of a raw stat like processing power, but they don't offer what something like an ipod touch can offer.

I had no idea they would work with Kindle books. I'm so thrilled you posted this, as my iphone is due to arrive soon and this makes it that much sweeter.

The iPod is a good mp3 player that is very simple to use. The integration with iTunes makes it really easy to manage your music, and synchronization with your iPod.

However....there are many other players (I use Sansa Sandisk) that offer the same amount of features for way less. I recommend going to Amazon and looking at some of the reviews for different players, then go to TigerDirect to buy it, they are an awesome and well-reputable source for electronics at discount price.

      Thanks for the advice.

      Gotta check out that TigerDirect.

Looks like IPod wins hands down.

iPod is nothing but a fancy to all. You can only listen music with it not for various purpose. Thats why many prefer to buy an iPhone rathr iPod like having everything with you.

Most people I've talked to who own one actually really like them, and generally one of the biggest factors is the interface/menus.

It depends on what you want it for.

Although I'm impressed by the iPod touch and iPhone i can't get around to getting one. The iPod touch has too little capacity for me and the iPhone is impractical for me at present.

I have the old iPod classic, the 160GB model, I can carry pretty much everything I own on it, music, movies, TV shows, youtube videos, podcasts audiobooks, etc etc.

The best little gadget I have ever brought.

The only reason the IPOD sells so well, is because of simplicity...
you can get alot of the same things on other phones, computers etc..

in reality cell phones were originally meant for contacting people in emergencies....

but now people are sitting there listening to music while driving, talking on the phone while driving, taking nasty videos of people fighting/dying from their phones and uploading this to youtube... etc...

it has its ups and downs, and personally I think its for dummed down people... because it is really that simple.

The original ipod itself had only a few buttons... play, left right, up down... oh wow.

It sold because it was so simple thats it.... simplicity sells and that is why it became "all that".

Someone can always make a cheaper product. I have thousands of songs and dozens of videos on my iPod... I use it to watch training videos, motivational videos, music, etc... I wouldn't use a phone for music (mainly because I get 60-80 calls a day and music would be frequently interrupted if I used it for that). I liked it so much that I finally got took the plunge and bought a MacBook Pro (what a fire breathing beast!)....

So yes, the iPod, IMO, is all that.

I am definfitly not blown away bu the ipod - my only gripe is that you have to use the mp4 format for music and need itunes (or equivalent) to transfer music.

I like the simplicity of say a Sansa where i can simply drag and drop the MP3s I want to hear - from any computer with a USB port.

Apple USED to just build a better product for a better price. Stephen Wozniak is out of the picture now though. Apple, once PRAISED for their anti IBM(in practices/methodology) stance has now EMBRACED IBMs process, even as IBM embraced APPLEs. Granted, the apple computers(with full keyboards and all), are now more like sun is(decent computer with proprietary SOFTWARE), but others are IBM(proprietary EVERYTHING).

HERE'S the rub! People are encouraged, maybe even PAID, to connect to the IPOD! Some cars, stereosystems, etc... are MISSING a piece! WANT IT!?!?!? BUY THE IPOD!

    So it IS effectively marketing.

I have an Ipod Nano. Best device I've owned. Not technically the best. Not Feature-rich the best. But overall, for design and daily use (looks, tactile response etc) it is superb.

I was waiting for the new ipod Touch to come out but having seen it, it's not much better than the previous version so hopefully prices on that will drop soon and I'll snap up a bargain )
