Hey guys,

Just wanted to give you a heads up. I have been called from two separate people with Indian accents in the last week trying this scam on me.

Luckily I'm internet savvy so didn't fall for it but just wanted to warn you guys.

Here's a video I found from someone who recorded the whole thing.

Indian telephone scam - YouTube

I hope this saves someone from a lot of trouble.

I'am getting calls from some Forex websites to trade with them whom I even don't know. I check their site and realize I'am visiting them the first time. As I'am a Forex trader and only trade with the Named websites is there undercover scam going on to sell Forex mobile numbers?

Although the chicks on the phone talk beautifully but when I ask them how they got my number they just say "Sir your number is on my calling list and I'am just an customer executive asked to call the peoples on this sort of list" WTF! Who told you to do so, My competitors?

Its not much now so don't prefer taking any serious actions.

I never, ever answer a number I do not recognize. Period. If it's truly important, they will leave a message with a number to call back.

I wonder. Did the caller know your name? I heard from the news that scammers investigate on their victim first before they make the call. And if so, where do these callers get the information?

I sure hope you reported the call to Callercenter.com and posted the caller's phone number there. Raising a warning can be very helpful.

They get numbers from the phone book, online versions. They don't wash their lists against the do not call register. They operate illegally but don't care because they catch some people out every time.

I get missed calls from Nigeria and Pakistan a lot of times. I searched on the net and found some blogs mentioning that these are the companies that charge you money even if you receive those calls.

Just search your phone number on google and you will see that it is indexed by lot of websites. Many scammers use some kind of bots to scrape phone numbers and email IDs from such websites.

    So,

    1. Do not leave your phone numbers on websites that display your phone numbers online. For example Social networking sites, blogs, forums etc (this allows unscrupolous bots to simply scrape your phone numbers)

    2. Never pick a call from an unknown number (especially if it's an international call)

Well that is a bit harsh, what if you have international clients, what if the other person uses Skype to call, or a friend in need is calling you from abroad, because he got robbed.

Being careful yes, but I take all calls, because each call can be a potential new client.
