What The Hell Did They Do To PayPal?

I don't go to PayPal much anymore as there's pretty much no reason to, but today Sherice emailed me to send my Paypal address for payment to her and I had to look up which one I wanted her to send it to (I have 6 confirmed addresses)

Well, I got there and I couldn't believe my eyes.

The print is like 10 gazillion times bigger than it was. Nothing is where it used to be. I can't find a damn thing. It took me forever just to figure out where they were keeping my confirmed addresses.

In short, it's just plain horrible.

Hopefully, enough people will write to them and they will put it back the way it was.

What a disaster.

They did this a couple of months ago. There's a link somewhere on the page that allows you to return to the old format. I clicked it immediately and have the old familiar setup back.

Thanks, but the menu options at the top of the page are still different. It seems like they have consolidated a lot of things.

I did that almost immediately. I gave it a try, but there was too much I couldn't find. I also filled out their survey and told them in no uncertain terms that their navigation has always been difficult, but that now it was beyond difficult, it's downright pathetic. I think I said something about them needing to hire a usability expert, because their current designers were clueless.

It's out of character for me to be so critical, so that shows you how bad I think it is.

Like I said, this was a couple of months ago. I opted out of the new interface and commented briefly why. I remember it being a nightmare. I've still got the old one. This really makes me wonder what they're thinking. They had/have one of the friendliest user interfaces I've seen for any and all purposes online and they go and do something like this.

There a link at the bottom to go back to the Classic view and I did that immediately. I don't know what they were thinking.

Except they screwed with classic view too. The menu options at the top have been consolidated. I have no idea where things are now.

Leave it to PayPal to screw up a wet dream.

The only problem I noticed after going back to classic view was getting to "history" is a bit different. I had to play around with it a bit but was able to do what I wanted.

I agree - I don't like it when a site I consider a tool or utility site changes. The need to spend time re-learning a site I was long familiar with...always chuffs me. I usually fuss for a couple minutes - then settle in and figure it out.

Same here. Hated the new version and was so glad they gave users the option to stick with the old one!

You thought the old interface was good? I didn't. Trying to find recurring payments is a mystery to most people. I didn't have to look for it often but whenever I did it was a pain in the you-know-what. Some things were easy, but others were not (to me anyway).

This. I am amazed at how difficult they make it to find recurring payments. It's almost as if they really don't want you to find them. How hard would it be to put a link in the menu that says:

            Recurring Payments

You might try using a different browser if you haven't tried that already.

They want to make it as difficult as possible to cancel, that's why. If it's easy, they lose money.

Think like a business and not like a customer and you'll figure out a lot of this stuff. It's all about making the most amount of money possible.

I've just sent them an email.

It seems like the new format doesn't even allow to filter down to payments sent / received by email address. It's just all rolled into one.

I regret to inform you that the functionality to filter the payments received to a specific email address is not available in PayPal.

You may however click the "details" of every transaction to show what email address where the payment was sent to.

        Thank you for your time."

I actually like the new version, it looks pretty clean, but I didn't have a problem with the old version either. Like everything else, it will take some time to get used to it, but it's not the end of the world.

There is a button to switch back to the old version, so it's not a big deal. Also, judging from the questions in the survey, it looks like they are open to keeping the old version depending on the feedback. Paypal has always had great customer service, so I'm sure they are taking everybody's feedback serious.

I've been using Paypal for years, and now they all of a sudden want a copy of my Social Security Card or national tax ID, Proof of Address, and a photo ID! What the hell! Has anyone else experienced this with Paypal recently? Why the hell do they need all that for? Isn't my bank account information enough?! They made my account limited. They said it was due to newly passed laws. Do the laws seriously require all this information to conduct online purchases now? So, anyone else gone through this with Paypal recently?

Actually I had to do all that just about 4 months ago. They have a fax number that you can send the info to. Relatively painless but annoying. Within 24 hours my account was back to normal!

Apparently the US, some years ago, for some organizations, mandated the SSN verification. MOST companies either take your word, or require a signed form. A company that has over 100K of *****MY***** money recently REFUSED to give me access without such a form. My current employer, after over 11 years of employment, asked me for such a form. Thank the IRS and laxed immigration enforcement for that.

BTW PAYPAL has MAJOR problems. The average credit card expires in like 2 years, so if you have a long subscription, EXPECT it to fail! MY CC recently was closed, and Paypal decided to take that as an opportunity to expose their bug. They REFUSED to pay the subscription! They sent me a notice with MEANINGLESS garbage as to how to fix it, but I managed to get to the screen, and the site said the problem was fixed.

YESTERDAY, it AGAIN said the problem occurred. I couldn't figure out how to get back to the right page. I called them. I told them their name was ****PAY**** PAL! Rather than trying to make it APPEAR ok, with reports and all, it should work. I ALSO told them that waiting for a secondary or tertiary failure was NOT RIGHT! They should have a way to test it.

Their response? It is a known issue, people are working on it, and they will add my case to those they have.

Dirty tactic, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was thinking behind it.

Last year I bought something online and picked it up at a department store. The department store didn't have it ready when I arrived, so I bought it again at the store, and canceled the order when I got home.

Paypal held the money for a few days, and told me they have to clear with the government first, because they want to make sure the money wasn't being laundered. I forgot what agency it had to be cleared by, but new laws require Paypal to do it.
