On a real note:
Hate is to strong of a word for me. I don't hate anything or anyone.
However, people in general annoy the *hit out of me.

Feeling bad. I hate feeling bad.

I'm more of a feel good girl I guess, lol!

This just in from the Rumor Prevention Department: I don't hate her, like I said, I'd never heard of her before. I dislike that song.

I know you are joking, but I feel like lecturing everyone right now...so....

Poverty isn't a conscious choice, I know that. Almost nobody actually says "I want to live in poverty".

But their actions..how they see the world....their lack of understanding about how money works...makes it very difficult to get ahead.

When I had an office, selling vacuum cleaners in people's homes, I had 3 or 4 male relatives try to sell. It was impossible to teach them. Their entire world view was skewed against actually making any money.

A mentor (I forget who) once told me to go where people are spending lots of money. At the time, I just went to an upscale mall. Yup, I watched people spent thousands of dollars on jewelry...I went to Las Vegas (a few years later) and watched people spend thousands in an afternoon, and act like they enjoyed it. I would see car auctions where a collector would spend, on a whim, $150,000 on one car.

Yes, there are lots of people spending lots of money...everywhere. In my life of training salespeople..the most important thing I've done for them is let them see huge sales being made right in front of them. Let them see that selling is normal. Buying is normal. It topples one barrier..but not all.

But if you are just scraping by......you don't believe it. You think everyone is using coupons..everyone is buying hamburger instead of steak. The idea of generating a six figure income, or more, simply doesn't occur to many of us.

Have you ever heard; "Nobody on their deathbed ever wished that they spent more time at the office"? I have. And the people saying it, aren't wealthy.

Do you know what I don't want to say on my deathbed? "I could have given my kids a better education, but didn't. I could have achieved more, but didn't. I could have contributed more, but didn't. I could have given my family a better life, but didn't".

Anyway, I see people work hard, for not much money. I respect that. They are doing the best with what they know. And maybe they just enjoy the work. And not everyone has ambition, or the ability to realize it.

But trying to convince others that being poor is the noble path, is fraud.

I know how that sounds. But it's one of my few core prejudices. It's a part of my past that I hate.

And now.......I will get off my gold painted (not plated, it's just paint) soapbox.

But, hey...that's what the young kids are listening to today...that Rock and Roll (I think that's what the youngsters call it). To me, it's just Devil Music.

Interesting question. I have the answer, and I think you'll find it interesting...but it will be later today. I'm walking out the door of my store.

I'm going to assume you mean high level complex selling, and debating a point from two sides, with a third party arbitrating.

To a novice to either debating or complex selling, they are going to appear identical. But they are not. In fact, they are almost the opposite.

In debating, you have two people arguing opposing sides of an idea. The goal isn't just to make the best argument. The goal is also to make the other person's argument weaker, or nonsensical. Your debating partner is your opponent. Your job is to make them lose. You are arguing from a position, there is no learning taking place. In theory, the person with the most skill at crafting an argument...wins.

In high level selling, There are not two sides. There is one side...the side where your client benefits from what you have. You are generally not being fought. Your goal is to find out if your offer is a match. There is education going on. Your goal isn't to win. Your goal is to understand what your prospect wants, and for them to understand what your offer can do for them.

In debating, for you to win, the other person must lose. In high level selling you either both win, or both just decide not to do business.

A debate is all about you, your position, your facts, your beliefs. Selling is all about the client. Their position, their beliefs, their needs.


In high level selling, there is a lot of finding out....qualifying...discovery. In nearly every one of my sales in the last decade, there has been no objecting. No fight. Very little convincing.

In debating, it's just attack, attack, attack. Defend, defend, defend.

And one thing I see as a huge flaw in debating. There are two sides. Both think that they are right. But in my experience, rarely is either one really right. And the reality...the truth...is seldom a matter of compromising. In other words, the answer is not found between the two position. The real answer is undiscovered, outside of either position.

Watch political debates. There is just talking at each other. There is no learning, no actual desire to do what's best. It's all defending a position.

To me, a win in selling can be;
Finding out quickly that there is no reason to continue.
Finding out that another solution is better for them, and explaining that to them.
Having them buy from you, with a complete understanding of why they are buying.


Ever watch a jury trial? That's a debate. Two opposing sides. The winner is the one that is the most convincing.


Ever watch a great teacher, making a student want to learn? That person is selling.

A debate is all about two positions. Selling is all about two (or more) people, and how they can benefit and grow.

A huge problem with many salespeople, is that they think they are selling, when they are really just debating....arguing. And arguing is the opposite of selling.

The sales people you see in movies? They are debating..arguing. real high level selling is invisible to the prospect. It looks like a nice conversation...between two people with a common interest.

I would take trainees with me to show them how to sell. They would invariably say, as we left "Wow, how do you find all these people that were already going to buy?"
I didn't. I spent two hours walking a maze of feelings, prejudices, primal drives, hidden agendas, established beliefs, incorrect assumptions.....

But if I video taped the whole thing, except for one or two people here...it would look like a friendly conversation...and nothing more.


I was in a prospects office once, and a competitor walked in the door. The prospect had made an appointment with both of us. He wanted us to compete for his business.

I declined, and started to walk out. My competitor said (in front of the prospect) "I know why your are leaving. It's because you know that my offer is better".

He should have let it go.

I said "No. The reason I'm leaving is because I completely understand both of our offers. And here is what will happen. We will keep going back and forth until we are exhausted. The chance is over 90% that neither one of us will get the business, because the prospect will be so confused. (I'm saying this in front of the prospect). And the truth is, I don't want the sale. It's yours. The guy tricked both of us, and is wasting my time. You can have him.

I'll find someone in an hour that I want as a client".

And I did.

He wanted to debate. He thought debating was selling. It isn't. Debating is a war. In a war, do you know how you know who won? The one with the least number of missing limbs.


In real...advanced selling, you both leave with more than you started with. That car you drive? Air conditioning? Your Computer? Your phone? Pretty much everything that you have? At one point someone had to sell that idea....to another person.

They didn't debate these things into existence.
That's the difference.

I would say one of the biggest things that gets me mad and upset is animal abuse. I couldn't even watch Animal Planet when they had that animal cops show. Any type of show like that I have to pass on.

One of my goals within the next 5 years is to create a non profit charity that will be self sufficient without needing donations.

As a whiny person, that just made my cry and complain to my mommy.
