Unless they are using a front end loader, I bet the people burying you hate it to.

      On a real note:
Hate is to strong of a word for me. I don't hate anything or anyone.
However, people in general annoy the *hit out of me.

This just shows what a noble soul you are, entering a thread with such a dismal premise to add some light and make the negative "feel bad" vermin squeal away into the shadows and crevices.

Ha! Thanks but your thread is moving along nicely with lots of negative "feel bad" vermin braving the light and and venturing out of the shadows and crevices.

I'm just thankful that most aren't haters, but just dislikers. That makes me feel good, lol!

I'm not a hateful person at all but when it comes to Justin Bieber I just thought it was a natural human/living creature reaction to hate him?

Ok I don't hate him but I'd like to trip him down some stairs.

For the record I prefer don't hate vermin. I much prefer a good old sewer rat to Bieber.

Oh, well when it comes to Justin Bieber, I just pretend he doesn't exist and as you well know, one's perception is their reality, so for me, he doesn't exist!

I know you're not a hater Richard. Your sense of humor is awesome and haters just don't have one at all.

                    Sal -

I feel for you. I broke two toes over a year ago and one of them still aches at times. About half of my foot was black/blue for a couple weeks after I did it.

To minimize the pain - tape your toe together with the toes on either side (on just one side if it's an end toe). Then wear snug shoes. It hurts to put them on but with the tape and held in place by the shoe - the day of walking is easier. Soaking at night with Epsom salts seemed to relieve the pain for a while for me.

                      What do I hate?

Poverty. Being perpetually dirt poor is a sin. It perpetuates ignorance. It robs your children of hope.

I hate being poor, more than I like having money.

When I was a little kid, all the people on my Mom's side of the family were dirt poor.

I was playing with a cousin, and she asked (we were both maybe 8 years old) "Would you rather be rich or poor?'

I told her that I guessed I'd rather be rich.

She said "I'd rather be poor. Because when you are poor, you can be loved".

I'm not talking about blue collar workers. I mean people so deep in poverty, that they would starve if not for programs that give them food and a place to stay.

I have a pathological hatred for being dirt poor, and I dislike being around people that live like that. I don't mean just not having money. I've been broke before. I mean thinking that it's the noble way to live. Disliking people that are educated, that build something.
When I was 18 years old, my Grandfather gave me this sage advice "Claude, there is something to knowing your place, and not trying to rise above it".

I loved my grandfather, but what he said was nonsense.

That mindset is repellent to me.

And being kicked in the groin. I don't much like that either.

your post reminds me of a friend of mine, who I don't spend much time with because every single time she tells me that money is the root of all evil and acts like it is indeed noble to be poor. She thinks all rich people are evil.

I too strongly dislike poverty - (I don't have it in me to really hate anything because I am the type who sees good in most things)

People who criticize the rich make me crazy - but I also can't stand rich people who think they can control you because they are rich.

I also can't stand people who think their pets have more rights than people - sorry Warrior pet owners, but humans are at the top of the food chain, and I would save a human life before I saved an animal - given the choice. I would try to save both - but if I couldn't it would be a human first.

I can put a shoe on now. When I had to put a shoe on that foot before I couldn't tie it at all. I've heard of taping the toes together but haven't tried it yet. The swelling is just going down enough that it's just the toe and knuckle that are swollen, so I might be able to do that. I've been putting a tincture of pot diffused in alcohol on it. Used to use it for Ricky - actually numbs the pain for a few hours. Also, hot baths feel real good on it so I just soak in the tub longer than usual.

Frank - had it been shoes, it would be an ankle, not a toe. Conversely - I have never ever hurt myself while wearing stilettos. I used to teach ballroom dance in 4" heels. They make you stand straighter and keep you more aware of your balance. I was actually outside in the lawn barefoot when I did this. I was answering a call coming in and moving the water sprinkler at the same time and turned around real fast to get in the house to check something the caller was asking me and plowed into the rocks at the rim of the garden.

Um...........they didn't get much answer at the time other than a string of cussing, followed by "I have to call you back, sob".

They keep playing on Studio roofs, and disrupting traffic!

Nothing to do with the artist, I didn't even know who the artist was until I search YouTube for what I guessed was the song title. Why this song specifically, it's because I keep hearing it.

I don't like the music because it's just typical formulaic pop schlock without any interesting hooks, but what I really can't stand is the "o-oh, o-oh, o-oh" part before the "I really don't care" line. That's like fingernails on a chalkboard to my ears.

And if you want to ask why I don't like that part, how the heck do I know? Why don't some people like broccoli? You do or you don't.

You did it. You made me listen to that song. Thanks.

What do you dislike? I'm used to getting my cultural insights from teenage girl singers.

I remember, as a kid, thinking that teenage pop stars were ...soooo mature. They had everything figured out. And then I actually attended high school...and was around other teenagers.

          Another illusion shattered.

Yes, nothing worse than going to a quiet coffee shop and some loudmouth sits behind you, and craps on til closing time about this investment, or having another meeting!

That is up there with a Mother sitting behind you, with a baby facing towards you!

        Dan; I've got this.

As a dumb person who thinks he's smart, I object to the stereotyping. But I may not know what Stereotyping is. Because, remember, I just think I'm smart.

So now, I'm in a conundrum. But I think I have a foolproof way to find out if you are dumb, and just think that you are smart. Ahem....

Write a brilliant answer to a question. Fully explore all permutations of the question. Consider all sides of the issue. And give a strong answer that fit everything we already know.

Then read the answer you just gave, back to yourself. If you can't understand what you just wrote, then you are a dumb person who thinks they are smart.

At least I think so. I really can't understand what I just wrote.

Sorry, HN. Let me clarify my question:

Why would you hate someone who is dumb who thinks he or she is smart? Seems like a pretty strong emotional response to something that doesn't even involve you. Or is this some kind of self-hatred?

Though, I can understand being amused...

Claude, poverty is not a choice; it's a privileged. Wait, I mean under-privileged.

I know you are joking, but I feel like lecturing everyone right now...so....

Poverty isn't a conscious choice, I know that. Almost nobody actually says "I want to live in poverty".

But their actions..how they see the world....their lack of understanding about how money works...makes it very difficult to get ahead.

When I had an office, selling vacuum cleaners in people's homes, I had 3 or 4 male relatives try to sell. It was impossible to teach them. Their entire world view was skewed against actually making any money.

A mentor (I forget who) once told me to go where people are spending lots of money. At the time, I just went to an upscale mall. Yup, I watched people spent thousands of dollars on jewelry...I went to Las Vegas (a few years later) and watched people spend thousands in an afternoon, and act like they enjoyed it. I would see car auctions where a collector would spend, on a whim, $150,000 on one car.

Yes, there are lots of people spending lots of money...everywhere. In my life of training salespeople..the most important thing I've done for them is let them see huge sales being made right in front of them. Let them see that selling is normal. Buying is normal. It topples one barrier..but not all.

But if you are just scraping by......you don't believe it. You think everyone is using coupons..everyone is buying hamburger instead of steak. The idea of generating a six figure income, or more, simply doesn't occur to many of us.

Have you ever heard; "Nobody on their deathbed ever wished that they spent more time at the office"? I have. And the people saying it, aren't wealthy.

Do you know what I don't want to say on my deathbed? "I could have given my kids a better education, but didn't. I could have achieved more, but didn't. I could have contributed more, but didn't. I could have given my family a better life, but didn't".

Anyway, I see people work hard, for not much money. I respect that. They are doing the best with what they know. And maybe they just enjoy the work. And not everyone has ambition, or the ability to realize it.

But trying to convince others that being poor is the noble path, is fraud.

I know how that sounds. But it's one of my few core prejudices. It's a part of my past that I hate.

And now.......I will get off my gold painted (not plated, it's just paint) soapbox.

Most people aren't salesmen nor would they be good at it. If I had to sell anything the way you do, I would be poverty stricken. The majority of people work for someone else and aren't directly responsible for selling products to customers, so the fact that people are buying stuff all over the place isn't really relevant to why some people are poor.

Suzanne; First, I see your point. Most people aren't self employed, or in sales. So my example doesn't apply to them. Of course, there is nothing keeping them from being self employed and owning their own business.

The bolded part of your post is the one I want to address. I hear exactly the same thing from people every week. Every audience I talk to has this point brought up at least once.

Most people think they would be terrible at selling. But it isn't selling, it's what they picture when they think of selling.

I have the advantage of reading hundreds of your posts, seeing your signature. knowing that you offer services.

You are a highly persuasive salesperson. You have sales skills that are actually pretty advanced. You speak with clarity, you use examples, and proof. You are one of the best communicators here. That's selling.

My wife sells about 90% as well as I do. When I tell her how good she is, she bristles at the thought of calling it sales. She says "I just ask questions, show them what I think they would like, and answer their questions". But heaven forbid, it should be called selling.

Your posts, even the ones I disagree with, are incredibly persuasive. I'm not joking here.
You just call it communication. I just call it selling.

It's prospecting that most people can't do. And asking for money. Those two skills are counter-intuitive.

I remember one miserable telemarketing job I agreed to ... horrible. It must have been painful for the prospect to listen to. Me reading a script like I don't really believe it myself. I am so not into "selling" face to face or on the phone. My way of selling is to offer a great product that if you are interested in the niche or type of product, the product really sells itself. I just list everything that you get. I pretty much don't bother with much hype or "benefits" because I feel that anyone who is interested already knows the benefits.

I could picture myself on a car lot .... look Dude .... you like it or not. Up to you. lol.

As far as the posts go, if I'm going to disagree with someone, I'd rather they at least know what goes into that thought process so they know where I came up with my opinions, but to me, it's not much like selling because in the long run, I don't care if they agree with me or not. It's just a conversation.

See? You just showed me that you think selling is something other than what you do.

You had a terrible telemarketing job. A job that I would never have done, on a bet. The hardest form of selling. And the people on car lots? Most couldn't sell if their life depended on it. People usually buy cars despite what the salesman does.

OK, granted, if you (or most people in sales) watched me sell, it would just look like a conversation. They wouldn't see the structure of what I was doing.

But you already have the aptitude. That is absolutely clear. You already have the necessary skills. You just don't have the temperament or inclination...to use those skills to steer a conversation.

But I read your post (the one I'm answering now) and I see exactly what most intelligent people do. They try to sell me on the idea that they can't sell.

A woman at my work does not want to be wealthy because of her mentality. She's actually quite smart but no ambition. Her whole (disfunctional) family drags her down and she juggles her bank account to keep the bills paid. She's like a martyr to some obscure way of thinking that's alien to me. Still, a lot of people get into the whole world of it all and actually get used to it to like it because they scores points by sometimes getting a little extra now and again. I hope Riffle does not think Claude is a Kia Soul.

I hate benefit or tax plans that encourage people to stay down.

I was talking to a dentist this morning, and it makes no sense for her to grow
her business above a certain level because of the negative tax consequences.

At the other end, I know people who only work so much so they don't lose benefits.
(I don't like their choice to try to live that way...)

Or, retired people who can only work so much before they exceed the Social Security
    limits.

      The musical group The Monkees!

I can't stand it. I play their songs over and over and over again...and I just hate it!

But, hey...that's what the young kids are listening to today...that Rock and Roll (I think that's what the youngsters call it). To me, it's just Devil Music.

The last sentence, I almost wrote "But, Hey...hey we're the Monkees...People say we monkey around. But we're too busy singing, to put anybody down....."

See? It infects your mind! That kind of music will destroy America...you just mark my word.

          Gas Mileage Saving Tips

          4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three delivery settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping at the slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you are pumping. Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as a return path for vapor recovery from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping at the high setting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is being sucked back into the underground tank so you're getting less gas for your money. Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump'

Debating is nothing more than attempting to 'sell' a point of view or strongly held belief, IMHO. If you are an effective debater whose argument can be back-ed up with facts, you might actually persuade you opponent to 'buy' your point of view.

That's my take and I'm sticking with it - but, then again, no one asked me. lol

I'm going to assume you mean high level complex selling, and debating a point from two sides, with a third party arbitrating.

To a novice to either debating or complex selling, they are going to appear identical. But they are not. In fact, they are almost the opposite.

In debating, you have two people arguing opposing sides of an idea. The goal isn't just to make the best argument. The goal is also to make the other person's argument weaker, or nonsensical. Your debating partner is your opponent. Your job is to make them lose. You are arguing from a position, there is no learning taking place. In theory, the person with the most skill at crafting an argument...wins.

In high level selling, There are not two sides. There is one side...the side where your client benefits from what you have. You are generally not being fought. Your goal is to find out if your offer is a match. There is education going on. Your goal isn't to win. Your goal is to understand what your prospect wants, and for them to understand what your offer can do for them.

In debating, for you to win, the other person must lose. In high level selling you either both win, or both just decide not to do business.

A debate is all about you, your position, your facts, your beliefs. Selling is all about the client. Their position, their beliefs, their needs.

In high level selling, there is a lot of finding out....qualifying...discovery. In nearly every one of my sales in the last decade, there has been no objecting. No fight. Very little convincing.

In debating, it's just attack, attack, attack. Defend, defend, defend.

And one thing I see as a huge flaw in debating. There are two sides. Both think that they are right. But in my experience, rarely is either one really right. And the reality...the truth...is seldom a matter of compromising. In other words, the answer is not found between the two position. The real answer is undiscovered, outside of either position.

Watch political debates. There is just talking at each other. There is no learning, no actual desire to do what's best. It's all defending a position.

      To me, a win in selling can be;
Finding out quickly that there is no reason to continue.
Finding out that another solution is better for them, and explaining that to them.
Having them buy from you, with a complete understanding of why they are buying.

Ever watch a jury trial? That's a debate. Two opposing sides. The winner is the one that is the most convincing.

Ever watch a great teacher, making a student want to learn? That person is selling.

A debate is all about two positions. Selling is all about two (or more) people, and how they can benefit and grow.

A huge problem with many salespeople, is that they think they are selling, when they are really just debating....arguing. And arguing is the opposite of selling.

The sales people you see in movies? They are debating..arguing. real high level selling is invisible to the prospect. It looks like a nice conversation...between two people with a common interest.

I would take trainees with me to show them how to sell. They would invariably say, as we left "Wow, how do you find all these people that were already going to buy?"
I didn't. I spent two hours walking a maze of feelings, prejudices, primal drives, hidden agendas, established beliefs, incorrect assumptions.....

But if I video taped the whole thing, except for one or two people here...it would look like a friendly conversation...and nothing more.

I was in a prospects office once, and a competitor walked in the door. The prospect had made an appointment with both of us. He wanted us to compete for his business.

I declined, and started to walk out. My competitor said (in front of the prospect) "I know why your are leaving. It's because you know that my offer is better".

He should have let it go.

I said "No. The reason I'm leaving is because I completely understand both of our offers. And here is what will happen. We will keep going back and forth until we are exhausted. The chance is over 90% that neither one of us will get the business, because the prospect will be so confused. (I'm saying this in front of the prospect). And the truth is, I don't want the sale. It's yours. The guy tricked both of us, and is wasting my time. You can have him.

I'll find someone in an hour that I want as a client".

      And I did.

He wanted to debate. He thought debating was selling. It isn't. Debating is a war. In a war, do you know how you know who won? The one with the least number of missing limbs.

In real...advanced selling, you both leave with more than you started with. That car you drive? Air conditioning? Your Computer? Your phone? Pretty much everything that you have? At one point someone had to sell that idea....to another person.

They didn't debate these things into existence.
      That's the difference.

It isn't always a matter of being "right" or even being the best. It's often a matter of choosing the better of two alternatives.

From a logical point of view, compromise may not come up with the best result. But from a human point of view it helps both sides to build trust and gain respect for each other.

Compromising over price is common. You ask $600 for a vacuum and the other person offers $500. $550 may not be the best price for either of you, but meeting half way has a number of psychological and social benefits. Of course, an equitable compromise is dependant on both parties being reasonable in their opening offers.

Kurt; First, I agree with everything you say.

I was talking about debates...not issues where the answer is always between the two positions. For example, when negotiating price.

          Here's an example;
"Is the Earth the center of the universe?" Is that a yes or no answer? Is the answer a matter of compromise? Maybe. And maybe the answer isn't along the same line at all. Sometimes the answer is something that hasn't entered our minds yet.

I get the "trust and respect" thing. But that applies more to conversations...negotiations...than debating. (as I understand the word debate) I'm always just looking for the best answer, at least the one that fits the most facts. Sometimes I have to throw away a position I've held for years. And sometimes the person I'm talking to..is completely wrong. I'll use a nonsensical example, so I don't step on anyone's toes.

Turtles are birds.....now let's debate. I say turtles are not birds, you say they are (it could be the other way around). Would we compromise? Would that make everyone happy? Probably. But we wouldn't be closer to the real answer.

And in selling, many times, the prospect has no knowledge of the subject (offer). And sometimes they just have a few very incorrect assumptions. It now isn't a matter of compromise, but a matter of slow, tactful, education...if there is any hope of a sale.

You bring up a good point about "It isn't always a matter of being "right" or even being the best. It's often a matter of choosing the better of two alternatives."

In a debate, yes. And that is the huge flaw. Both alternatives could be completely wrong.

Let's debate; "Which will cure cancer by drinking it...mercury or lead pellets?"
I know it's a silly question, but it has to be. We know it's a silly question. But if you had no idea of the property of lead or mercury....the debate would take on a serious tone.

See, the validity of a debate depends on the knowledge of both participants. And usually, there is a huge gap. But the statement you made that I bolded? In many, maybe most cases it's true. And the subject isn't life or death anyway....in most cases.

"From a logical point of view, compromise may not come up with the best result. But from a human point of view it helps both sides to build trust and gain respect for each other."

Yes, again very true....in a conversation...or a negotiation. But in a debate, we are defending positions, not negotiating. At least the debates I've seen.

And in selling, until you get to price, compromise isn't really an issue. At least the way I use the word "compromise".

One thing I will do in selling, that may look like compromise...is if the prospect believes something silly, like "The internet is only good for porn"...if I don't think changing his mind is essential to the sale, I'll let it go. I may even give it mild support, like "It sure seems that way, doesn't it?"

          I suppose that's a form of compromise.

Ever watch a political debate? Want to know what would sell me? If one of the debaters listened to the other guy and said "You know what? I think I like your idea better than mine". Why? Because that required thought...independent thought....and caring about what idea was actually best, and not who said it.

I was invited to be part of a Think Tank with a company that was designing a new vacuum cleaner. Maybe 20 of us sat at a table, genuinely trying to come up with better ideas. One guy had an idea, and then I had a reason that the idea was impractical. The guy heading the group wanted us to list the reasons for and against. My new friend said "No. It isn't that Claude was right, I know now that my idea was wrong. Let's scrap it".

Later (maybe the next day) I gave an idea, and another guy gave an idea that was better. I said "I like your idea better than mine. Let's do that". How could this happen? Well, none of us had an agenda. We were getting paid for our time. Really, the only concern was giving the best ideas. There were no positions, only ideas. There was no debating. If we debated ideas, we would have ended up with "the lesser of two bad ideas", in most cases.

Kurt; You know the threads where arguments go back and forth, and nobody is really discussing anything, they are just throwing words, links, and graphs at each other? Those look like debates to me.

          added later;

You said "Compromising over price is common. You ask $600 for a vacuum and the other person offers $500. $550 may not be the best price for either of you, but meeting half way has a number of psychological and social benefits. Of course, an equitable compromise is dependant on both parties being reasonable in their opening offers."

Yes, of course...I agree completely. In my experience, negotiating price is a very small part of selling. Usually not a factor at all. But for some (like car sales) it's the main part of the transaction. And when I do negotiate price, I understand the psychological needs that are being addressed, as I can tell you understand too.

Let's talk about something important - me.

I hate jelly days - those days when your muscles are jelly and everything hurts and you are tired and have no energy.

I'm having a jelly day and I don't like it one little bit...not one!

Jelly days follow high energy days for me (this is about me, remember?). Yesterday I moved things that weigh twice as much as I do...I tugged and pulled and pushed and rolled...and I got it done!

Still had energy so I started cleaning the garage (amazing how much stuff you can pack into an oversize 2 car garage, isn't it?)...and dug some holes to plant some plants that have survived the summer in pots.

I sorted out 5 bags and 3 boxes of 'stuff' and took then to a charity donation site...loaded up 3 garbage cans and wheeled them to the street for Monday pickup. Yesterday I was a whirlwind of activity.

...and I am so damned tired it's not funny! Good thing it's Sunday because it's a big time jelly day and no work is getting done today at my house.

            Ok - that's what I hate. I'm done now. I need a nap.

No. Let's make it about me. I'm having a jelly day too. Yesterday I had to chase chickens around their runs to capture them and load them in cages and then load them into the truck (30 of them) to take to the chicken swap.

Then I had to erect my tent thingy at the swap to keep them out of the sun. No sooner had I done that, some man came by and bought the whole lot. All that work and only 5 minutes at the swap and I'm sold out.

Now I'm tired from all that work yesterday and I'm going to take a nap too.

Yep, l went through that, researched it online and found a product that stinks to high heaven, and can be sprayed near a noisy neighbour, that won't keep the noise down!

Smells like a dead animal, and l can't think of the name off hand, but it wasn't a pretty name!

If you have neighbours from hell, that can't be reasoned with, and party every night, then research that.

It is a clear liquid and can be or should be available online!

I think it had a yellow plastic bottle?

Is it the need not to be seen as an "easy sale" or otherwise an easily swayed people ? Sometimes, it feels almost like jockeying for social position.

Is that it or am I off the mark?

How come this need is more pronounced in some then others? I got the vibe talking to some people that they were barely interested in the product, but they seemed to take a special pleasure in negotiating at length anyway.

Maybe we should move the discussion to the Offline section.

              The short answer. It can be all of that and more. The main reasons to feel a strong need to negotiate price;

The need to feel dominate, and to show others in the room that you are dominate.
Out of habit, you always negotiate price...with everyone.
The need to feel that they got a good deal. They can get that feeling in other ways, besides a lower price.
Their culture or upbringing demands that they negotiate price.
The salesperson, by several actions, gave the prospect the feeling that they could negotiate price...or that the asking price was unreasonable. This is perhaps the biggest reason people want to negotiate price....a weak and unsure salesperson.
With some sales, it's common practice to negotiate...Cars, Homes, barter.

If you like, ask me (in the offline section) how to give the prospect the same satisfaction of negotiating price, without it costing you anything. But here, you're an audience of one. And it's not entertaining to the rest.

I think sales has such a negative connotation because of the first sales people we are exposed to.

It is really just intelligently communicating and influencing. (I realize this is the distilled version.)

I would say one of the biggest things that gets me mad and upset is animal abuse. I couldn't even watch Animal Planet when they had that animal cops show. Any type of show like that I have to pass on.

One of my goals within the next 5 years is to create a non profit charity that will be self sufficient without needing donations.

That's a lot of work, Thomas and there's no need to reinvent the wheel. I have thought of that in the past and after consulting an attorney was shown that it is much simpler to set up a trust that will outlive you and provide for sheltered animals at some level, long after you are gone.

Around 80% of my estate will be going to support my local SPCA. They have a first-rate infrastructure, have some of the greatest people providing loving care to hundreds of abused and deserted animals and you don't have to do anything more than sign a simple document.

Once that is done you can then devote yourself to making even more money while you are alive that will benefit the cause you care so much about, long after you are gone.

Having been involved in non-profits over the years, I can tell you that the intricacies, the reporting, the meetings, the demands on your time - well, there's hardly any time left to actually get anything done.

You have a noble goal, but I think you will find that getting there will take more time, effort, aggravation and the navigation of uncharted waters unique to your project and may leave you feeling very disillusioned.

As far as it being self-sustaining without donations - that's the goal of many non-profits, but few ever attain it.

Write a check through your will - it's much easier. Of course you may be a bit younger than I am, so it may not be something that you feel you need to plan for. Not so in my case. I've got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. I can at least leave the planet knowing that if I never achieved much in my life, I will have at least accomplished something of merit and distinction by my passing. That brings a certain contentment to watching the seasons flick by in rapid succession. lol

        Cheers. - Frank

          Thanks for that Frank!

You may be right and it may just be better that I work on a sustainable cash flow that could be given to a charity already in place. I know it would help me devote more time to generating cash instead of meetings and such.

I always worry about how much money goes to the actual purpose and not the organization. I don't remember where I saw the chart, but it outlined some of the bigger charities and I was surprised at how much was eaten up by organizational fees.

I will look into the SPCA. Your recommendation is good enough for me. There was also a charity helping dogs out of Puerto Rico I wanted to get involved with.

Thomas, I'm one head-bump away from being reclassified as a potted plant. Pay attention to nothing I say without further investigation into the particulars. Also, these are local facilities of a national organization, so due diligence is still required.
There was also a charity helping dogs out of Puerto Rico I wanted to get involved with.
Always try to contribute to something in your back yard. That way you can sort of keep an eye on where your money is going and how it is being utilized. I know folks who never donate cash, but will bring hundreds of dollars worth of food and other supplies, every month. These are folks that are generally a bit older and have been burned in the past. They sleep well knowing where every penny of their money now goes :-)

Helping make the BMW payment for some thief in Puerto Rico may not be the best use of your money. I can build a web site for a dog shelter and start requesting funds overnight. I can relate stories that will make you cry and pics that will rip your heart out. Testimonials? No problemo. I have one from Mother Teresa, all ready to go. I will gladly take your check. I will laugh all the way to the bank. You will never know that you have been scammed.

I am a cynic - or a realist - your call on that one. lol

Go help a dog that you can hold in your arms, look into it's eyes and tell that you love it. That's the best 'interest' you will ever receive on your cash donation. Besides, it's just so damn good for the soul. :-)

Good for you I hate animal abuse too. Some 15 year old dickhead set fire to a dog rescue centre hear a few weeks back and I was disgusted. In fairness the response from the public actually closed a motorway leading to a sister shelter as people took things to donate so it's good people were moved by it.

On an unrelated note it's much nicer to have a much more focused and better view of that shiny lovable crust of bread (head) you have on those shoulders Thomas.

I'm a big softy when it comes to animals, especially dogs. It doesn't take much to get me teary eyed when I see an animal in bad shape.

I have always had a good connection with animals. Maybe because I drink out of a bowl as well. haha

I remember a nice vacation in India, I ended up be surrounded by dogs and kittens. I was like Ace Ventura, Pet Detective.

I would work, on the patio, and a stray kitten would be rolled up sleeping on my lap.

There was actually two kittens, a boy and girl. The girl didn't like me which is how I knew it was a girl.

Two dogs that lived across the road would walk into the patio area for visits. They would just casually walk inside the gate and come over to my patio and lay down. Everyone would just laugh. They even started following us around when I went out for walks.

It just amazes me how quickly animals can get attached and it only takes a little kindness.

On an unrelated note it's much nicer to have a much more focused and better view of that shiny lovable crust of bread (head) you have on those shoulders Thomas.
Ha! I keep telling people the shine is actually my halo but no one believes me.

As a whiny person, that just made my cry and complain to my mommy.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I hate the haters. But on the other hand, I love them too because they make me push a little harder.
