Best local directory theme for Wordpress?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to develop a directory website for my local area as a way in with local business owners. I want to get this developed ASAP, don't want to mess around, wanna get this up and running by the end of the weekend. ACTION = MONEY!!!! )

So, was just wondering if you offliners could recommend a great theme for this. I am not overly impressed by what I've seen so far and am hoping that maybe you folks can point me in the right direction.

      Mark,

      How close to Templatic Geo Places can we get with your realtor theme.

      Can I have more than one listing show up on the map, and can the listing just have a marker and not the picture?

      I want to use it for other things than houses, like restaurants I would like to have clickable markers on the map.

      Keep in mind I'm not a programmer, I'm sure you could pull it off, but could a layman?

    I have Directory Press and City Theme but Geotheme is streets ahead of any other I have looked at in particular the geo location and radial search features are impressive
    It gets my vote!

    I didn't really like any of the ones listed. I found this and I'm very happy with the cMap version. They also import CSV with an add on. I imported 2,000 business listings scraped from the yellow pages. Total cost about $30.

    After trying a bunch of different directory themes/plugins, it seems like none of them are truly designed for you to make money. The designs don't provide anything unique or give the business anything of value. I think eventually you will need to differentiate yourself from the thousands of copy cat directories out there.

    I end up hand coding custom post types, custom post/page templates and just creating a directory from a non directory theme that I like the design of.

    But I am always on the lookout for something truly unique :-)

        GeoPlaces v3 received a lot of complaints over bugs and security issues. Templatic claims that version 4 has fixed all those problems. Has anybody tried Geoplaces v4?

          I got so turned off by v3 that I didn't dare touch Templatic after that. I'd like to know if they actually fixed their security issues and what not though.

      That's just business though isn't it? I've come to think that, unfortunately, many people don't have the perseverance to make a business work whether it's a local business directory or any other business online or off.

    I like directory press. You can also edit theme to give it the look and feel you prefer. Their support forum is really great too. I have yet needed to submit a support ticket.
