My Cold Calling Sales Script

Hey _____,
just wanted to post my sales script and get some opinions(feel free to pinch it if you want)

I know it is very long but i really couldn't shorten it, even though i would like to.

Hey Bob this is ____________,
Is this a good time?

Real quickly we offer a service whereby you can reach up to 20 mobile customers per day, everyday of the week, and we are testing it out on a few local business owners at a discounted price...

I guess I don't have to tell you how effective mobile marketing is, EVERYONE carries a cell phone...

What some don't know though is that It's really A lot cheaper than you might think.

Have you folks currently got a mobile advertising program going, or is it something you've considered?

Well, as i previously said our service is only $397 for a mobile optimized, 5 Page site for you business. This is amazing cheap as if you call any of our competitions they will charge beyond $1000 for this service!

We can guarantee the site will be up between 5-7 days from the minute you accept this offer. We don't require the full payment until the website is up and you are happy with the service and we provide 2 free revisions. The payment needs to be made by Paypal which uses SSL Technology to keep you information safe. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard, Amex etc...

If you accept this offer I will email you with our Service Agreement and a link so you can pay for the service and we will start working on your site immediately and contact you again when it is done for the final payment.

"Anyway ___________, I'd love to go ahead and see if we cant get your phone ringing off the hook with business do you wanna give it a shot? Great. I just need to get a little info from you and we'll get started..."

For us to setup up your Mobile Site we need to know what pages you would like us to build you, remember we can do up to 5...

If you would like I can read you out the list of pages that we offer and I will tell you which ones we recommend and most of our costumers use?

Ok you may like to write these down.
These are the details we need to get you your Customer Mobile Website:
What is your full name?
What is your email?
What is your Best Phone Number to contact you on?
What is your C-Panel Login for your website?

Congratulations _____, You have just taken the first set to getting more mobile customers! In a second I will send the Service Agreement and the Payment link to you and you can get started.

Is there any more questions I can answer?

OK, thank you for your time,

My personal email is _____________________ and that is the easiest way to contact me and i will get back to you within a 24 max.

Bye for Now,
__________

Do you have someone using this script? I do telemarketing and I can guarantee you, whoever tries to use this won't get past "is this a good time?" Because if they don't know you, it's not a good time.

I'd introduce yourself, Confirm that you are speaking with the DM
Ask if they have a mobile marketing program in place (this would be your shot to explain BRIEFLY - 20 words or less)
Offer to come by, or ask if they have 5 minutes to go over the program offering.
If not, book a time for them to speak with you about it.

Too many people try to go for a sale and get a no because it's a bad time. I like that you were trying to ask right off the bat, but unless they know WHY you are calling or WHO you are, it's going to be a bad time for them.

ok thankyou very much for that indepth reply. i will try and shorten it and use what you have said.

only reason i used the "is this a good time?" was cause i read that it was a good open line on the telemarketing forum, but i might find something else to switch it with.

You haven't previously said it costs $397 and you say if I ring any of your competitors it wil cost $xyz so I would think okay then when you get off the phone I'll call them. (If I'm bothered that is.)

Would it not be easier to just make an appointment?

I would first ask for the person in charge of marketing, if it's a small company and you have that information (like employee count) you'll be able to just ask for the owner. You may have to have your TM make 2 calls, because sometimes if you have to ASK who to speak to, they know right off the bat you are telemarketing. So, have your TM call back again and try a different approach.

Anyways, I agree that you do need to ask if it's a good time, but warm them up first. Ask them if it's a good time once you know they are the DM, and they know WHY you are calling. If at that point they say it's not a good time, then it opens to door to ask when one is and set the appointment.

I work primarily as an appt setter, and I can't tell you how much easier it is, even though it takes more time, and sometimes 2 calls, to get someone to listen to me when I schedule a time to talk to them.

Hit me up if you need more help!

Great points! I agree. When someone I don't know calls me up, my first thought would be to hang up. That could change with a proper introduction.

I like the thought and effort that you put in the script. But at the beginning where you asked "is this a good time", i would omit this. You need to picture your decision maker as an extremely busy person, and any thing that can get his attention off of what they're doing will help you.

I like the script, it got my attention. Just do away with the "is this a good time" part, and you should be good to go.

I am no cold-calling expert but I offer mobile websites too and I know more or less how people respond.

I didn't like the following parts:

    - "Real quickly we offer a service"
When they hear that you are trying to sell them something, they will immediately shut down their ears.

    - "you can reach up to 20 mobile customers per day"
I would never give exact numbers or any guarantees about customers. Besides mobile site is not something that will bring them extra visitors (unless you do additional SEO), it will just improve the user experience of mobile visitors.

    - "I guess I don't have to tell you how effective mobile marketing is"
Yes you really have to, because most of them have no idea.

    - "It's really A lot cheaper than you might think"
I wouldn't go into monetary details in the first contact.

    - "as i previously said our service is only $397"
    You didn't say it previously.

    - "if you call any of our competitions they will charge beyond $1000 for this service!"
I really don't think there are people or companies who charge $1k for a simple mobile site. If they do a quick market research and find out that you are wrong, you will lose them.

    Just my own opinions.

    Good luck.

Brendan, I don't use cold-calling but I have been using emails for a while and a few face-to-face meetings so I cannot give you any scripts. But here are the changes I would make:

"Real quickly we offer a service"
Do not mention that you are offering a service at your first contact. Mention that you can help them or assist them in solving a problem that you will point out.

"you can reach up to 20 mobile customers per day"
Don't give specific figures, because offline business owners think that they are the smartest man on the planet and once you fail to deliver that number they will flame you. Just give all the benefits they will get, no specific numbers.

"I guess I don't have to tell you how effective mobile marketing is"
Explain them all you know about mobile marketing, provide them figures, statistics, resources etc.

"It's really A lot cheaper than you might think"
Don't mention the cost/price until they ask for it.

"as i previously said our service is only $397"
You shouldn't make any mistake, misspellings etc. (I am saying this because you didn't mention the cost on your script before but you are saying as if you did) They will be waiting for you to make your first mistake and make fun out of it and this will kill your credibility instantly. They are the best, you know. Never give them the opportunity.

"if you call any of our competitions they will charge beyond $1000 for this service!"
Comparing your service to others is not wrong but give some more realistic figures. Or better don't give any figures. Because when you tell them others will charge $1000 for this, they will go look for someone who charges less than $1000 and believe me they will let you know about this just to prove you were wrong. Just say something like "I will offer you a special discount here and it will be much lower than the market price" etc.

Don't overthink on the script. Start testing it and you will be modifying it in the process depending on the responses you get.

No need to invent something new !!!!

Just learn from the best of the best, ( John Durham ) - and use scripts, which are converting.

I just want to throw out there, that scripts are for inexperienced, and beginning telemarketers. They do no good after about a week. Any good/worth their weight caller is going to just need a basic idea of what the product is and they will develop their own conversation after a week of calling.

I think too many "sales" people and owners put lots of thought and weight into a script and don't realize that as callers we don't use it. We say what comes to us and we actually have conversations. NONE of my calls are the same. I cater to whoever is on the other end of the line. I take the time to listen to your customers and cold calls and give the information they need. I learn your product, I know how to sell you, that's why you're paying me. Here's another tidbit, if I DON'T have all that info you try to cram into a 2 minute phone call...I book an appointment easier, because I can say "that's something that I can't answer for you, John is the man for that, let me have him call you tomorrow, when is a good time?" Since I'm NOT in sales, this brings you right in with an interested client.

I've been working on the same 3 contracts for 2 and 3 years now as my "main" job...I haven't used a script since the first week. If you have someone asking for a script and you're rehearsing it with them or "role playing" you need to get your head out of your ass and trust that you hired a caller that can do what they are supposed to.

Scripts need to be simple. Your name, the company, what you are trying to do (book a call, in person appt, set up a demo, give a web address) and get off the phone. More than that you are wasting everyone's time.
