I was wondering if anyone uses Shopperpress for their ecommerce site, and if so how do you like it, pro's and con's? Thanks

Looks great, but no way to tie it into the shipping modules of any of the major shippers, you're stuck with flat rate shipping or graduated shipping which doesn't take into account distance and zones, etc. For that reason it's unusable if you're looking for a serious E-commerce store.

Yup Using a plugin like this is based on the scale of your project I like interspire as it has it all but it might be a little expensive if you are just stating out

I actually have an offline client looking for a good ecommerce site now and I am not sure how to present because many want to see your resume and work you have done, any ideas in that arena?

I am in the process of setting up an online shop with https://shopplugin.net
and am happy with it - my worker actually said it was the only one he would work with...
I have used others that have had a lot of bugs... so far so good
OBTW - plugins for functions - themes for appearance - I'd only use a theme for a function(like a cart) if there was no plugin to do the job

I have had some clients use it before, Not me personally, I heard that it is not the best system, I guess its all up to what you are trying to do, but if you are trying to scale large its not the best, however if you want to start here and then build customize your own platform after you know what features you need, would be good.

I strongly urge against using Wordpress for ecommerce. Look into learning Magento for ecomm.

I do a ton of e commerce sites and the best one I found that actually has a plugin for WP and that is ecwid.com ( no affiliation) you can use most all major shipping carriers and has several credit card gateways pre configured,, the nice thing about this shopping cart is that it is free to use up to 100 items and to update the cart the user never has to go into the wp back end its all done in the cart and auto updated..

Its very easy to use and you can have a shop up in about 5 mins.

is there anything wrong with Volusion?

  • Hi !

Have you considered using PrestaShop ? They've come out with a lot more modules for improved functionality.

    Google it.

I believe the basic script is free, but some of the modules do cost a bit.

    I hope this helps.

I tried Volusion, Magento, Big Commerce, Shopify...

For what I wanted to do, Volusion gave me the best first impression. I don't have much experience any of them, but I found Volusion had a lot of great live support as well as videos and write ups that weren't too hard to follow.

I have tried Shopper Press before, but I couldn't see an easy way to add anything other than "LIST" options to the items I wanted to sell. The backend looks to be very robust and easy to use, though.

For simple things, I like Woo Commerce. Again, I have next to no experience with ECommerce, but it was a nice easy system to learn and use.

Here are the things I was looking for in an ecommerce solution:

    - I wanted the ability to easily add customization fields where a shopper could fill in certain fields to customize the item.
    - I wanted an easy way for customers to edit their orders
    - I wanted the ability to customize follow up emails
    - I wanted a clean backend so I could track orders and easily notify shoppers that an order had been shipped or completed
    - I needed a way to cross-sell and up-sell

Fortunately, there are tons of free trials available online, so you can make the list of things you need, sign up for a trial and / or call their support to check the functions you need and whether or not they're willing to help you quickly set them up.

I hope that helps a bit.

I've used Magento, Volusion, and several other ecommerce solutions and currently use Shopper Press for one of my sites.

I like it. I'm not using it as a shopping cart though since it doesn't support the gateway I'm using. I'm really using it for the functionality more than anything. Thumbnails, reviews, products pages, etc...

I have no issues with it. It is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I got rid of Volusion because I like being in charge of how many products I put on and their SSL prices are much more than I normally pay. Plus I can use ShopperPress on as many sites as I want and can even create Amazon stores if I decide to in the future.

I think using proper ecommerce CMS like Magento or Zencart will do you better instead of using Wordpress since those CMS are actually built with the purpose of setting up ecommerce sites, the are more robust and offer you more features but then again those CMSes do require some amount of code editing and stuffs and if you are not good at that, you should use Wordpress and those ecommerce plugins. Wordpress is easy to handle. And I think Shoperpress is the best ecommerce plugin that I know of till now.
