Signs of the Apocalypse

So, I was looking through the Sunday paper for local businesses who I could target for some marketing services.

1st - no local businesses, save car dealers and theatre productions, are advertising in this 2.5 million metro area.

2nd - 3/4 page ad from Google "Free websites for local businses." I don't know how far they are taking it as far as conversion optimization, seo, and so forth. If they're not offering any, it could open up a whole new "make your Google website really work" business.

    Interesting Steve - can you post the link that google is sending prospect to? I'd be curious to see what they're up to.

    It's kinda interesting to see a company that controls so much online, advertising offline for website business.

    It may have something to do with their Get Your Business Online initiative. They were pushing it hard in Canada and promoting the .ca domain names. GYBO.ca is their promo site. They even have Kevin O'Leary pushing it. I believe the offer is, free domain and website for a year or something lame like that. As if it's going to do a business owner any good to build their own site with yola.

    What a novel idea... give business owners a way to build their own site and then offer them a domain for a year ($10value)! Not.

    You know what it's really about... increasing local adwords revenue.

      There is so much untapped business out there for them. Catering to the less savvy local business owner makes sense.
