Google Places Question

If a client wants to be listed in Google Places but doesn't have (and doesn't want or need) a website, is that a problem? Will this affect his ranking?

It used to not matter at all, but recently Google has been putting more weight on the website to calculate rank for Places.

I would say if there's a decent amount of competition you should plan to have a website. What I do for my clients is tell them if they don't have a site, I'll make a nice one for free with your purchase of Google Places optimization services. What I do is just use the default wordpress theme and put up contact info/services/locations/pictures/bio/etc. and host it for free. It takes me about 4-5 hours to get it it all set up, but it's a one time deal and if it's properly optimized it can really help their rank.

Plus, I find most of them actually enjoy having a site.

I completely agree with Somacorellc. The website is a crucial part of the puzzle. Not only that, it adds legitimacy to the business. If they say they don't want one, they probably mean they don't want to pay for it.

Actually, this is a great chance to put together a site that is perfectly optimized for Google Places. If they had an existing one, your work would be harder because you'd have to change an existing layout / design a bit.

  • This is good way to market yourself and take advantage of the opportunity that has presented itself. See if they would like you to make a site for them along with the Google Places optimization. Many times when they say they dont want a website it is because they dont have one and dont want to figure out how to do it themselves. You can use this as a chance to

I agree that you should just build a 1-3 page basic site if nothing else. Though I have also seen the website link on G-Places accounts point to Dex, Yahoo and Yellowpages. And they still ranked very well.

Yeah, it will influence if you do not have website .
It will base on how many people share about you as well and not only your website, maybe other site talking about your business. It will affect as well . So do take note on those directories and review sites as well.

No this will not effect his ranking very much.
You just need to be clear when you are making a place listing. Use his keyword in title, specialties and other stuff. I hope these make sense
