LinkedIn - how to write a killer message

Hey guys, I want to expand my use of linkedin. I have the missinglink. I'm looking for formats, wording, that's been effective for inviting people to webinars or opt-in lists.

Does anyone have an effective example or better yet a funnel that's working on linkedin?

Thanks James. I got on Lewis's list and I haven't seen anything relevant.
      What I'm looking for is:
Do you invite people directly to an opt-in page
Do you invite them to look at a blog post or article and then try to get them to opt in
Do you invite them to a webinar or something like the above?

And I don't see Lewis or anyone talking about a good funnel on LinkedIn.

        Tim,

Did you get Preeti's WSO where she gives you the email she uses word for word that you can tweak and make your own?

Thanks for the reminder Sue. Yes, I did get it. She makes an offer for two different services. Would you offer a webinar, or a free video the same way?

          Thanks for your thoughts. Tim

I am having a lot of success on Linkedin, but I have not tried to push them to a webinar event.

That said, it is not really any different than approaching them about services. How are you contacting
them? Are they connections already or part of groups?

I'm approaching people in Groups. I want to sell positioning and copy writing services. I think that's going to be tough to do in a "Preeti-type" message. So I was hoping to send them to a webinar or series of videos.

What are you sending and what kind of offer are you making, Irish?

                I have 2 ways I do things.

                1. I make a lot of targeted connections. A lot I connect with through
groups, others I run across (almost 1000 now). I ALWAYS send a new connection email. This is where I would lead to what problem I solve for people like them (maybe send them to a page or a webinar )
                2. I utilize my copywriting talent and incorporate direct mail (letter). I talk more about that here- http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...-linkedin.html

Thanks Irish. I think this is a very interesting approach. Can you say how you target connections? Is it simply picking appropriate groups? Or are you targeting verticals? Or something else?

Whether it be for my services or for one of my clients, I target as
                    much as possible.

Let's say you want to sell websites. I usually create something for
a niche. We'll say dentists. Now my messages, splash pages or
any other device will refer to that niche.

The more you can resonate with the prospect the more you
will convert. If you talk about landscaping websites you've done
to a dentist- they disconnect. Once that happens you're pretty
                    much screwed.

Does not compute. We should be asking you!

Thanks for the note. I'm confident with the copy writing and the positioning. And I have testimonials to back it up. What I'm concerned about is a funnel that works on LinkedIn. In my experience, LinkedIn is a funny animal. I just sent out 30 messages and got 12 responses. I feel pretty good about that. But I had a specific "in" and a specific offer that came across as a trade.

In this case, I'm not sure whether to invite them cold to a webinar, or warm them with some other offer. I'm dubious that a traditional sales message will work with LinkedIn. I think it may look too crass. At the same time, I'm not sure what kind of a "trade" would be appropriate for an invitation to a webinar.

So, I'm trying to figure out the funnel. Irish has an interesting one. He pre-warms with a direct mail piece and then calls or follows up with LinkedIn. That may make sense.

I'm just trying to get a sense of a sequence that works,. LinkedIn strikes me as a quasi-personal/quasi-professional environment that is very different from mail, email, or facebook.

I know this, it is a lot harder to write ads for ourselves than it is for other businesses! What I do is focus on what they want more than anything, more money and for some- staying in business at all!

Tim, I've actually held a webinar on LinkedIn and prospected for all attendees on LinkedIn--it's the craziest thing but I had random people signing up for my webinar...AND they were paying me to attend!

I truly think having a solid profile to start is vital as they all came to my profile first to check me out (I kept a close eye on my "Who's Viewed Your Profile" page) and from there went on to sign up for the webinar.

PM me if you have more questions..but yes, I just advertised it in groups that were active and got a pretty good response.

    Hope that helps!

      Hi Preeti

I have your LI client attraction system - awesome ))

Just a quick question on the below - the webinar you advertised on LI- was it a paid webinar (you mentioned that people were paying to attend).

And also - have you ever tried LI Ads? Lots of people told me, they are really expensive and doesn't bring any results... but... some people/companies use them...

Dominica, thank you SO much for your kind words..glad that you liked it!

Yes, it was a paid webinar that I hosted..I just wanted to test it out to see if anybody on LI would be interested in learning about "online marketing" catering to business owners..and I got a decent response.

I tried LI ads (they'll sometimes give out a free $50 coupon to try it) and I didn't really get any traction with it. However, as you can read..some people have worked LI ads and gotten positive results...I haven't personally so I can't comment on it.

Just keep taking action..LI is a goldmine!!!

Here's a copy of a message I just got from someone on LinkedIn. I have to say it works on me. I know it's not really customized to me. But the line that says, "hey, we think you'd be a great addition" hooked me (even though I know it's not sincere).

            An interesting strategy:

I had pretty good luck a couple years ago with Linkedin ads ---> to webinar ---> offer ----> autoresponders ---> more webinars and offers.

    Rinse and repeat.

I was doing 2-4 live webinars a month... now I would mix in some automated webinars and push a lot more traffic.

I think I was paying 2.25 per click and getting back almost $5 per click.

I think... about 40% would show up and I would get a 3-4% request and about 1.8% buyers right off the bat. Or is that off the batt?

Anyway its a great way to target business owners.

That is great Jay, thanks so much for sharing your technique and adding in a mixture of live and pre-recorded webinars is a great idea..not to mention the autoresponder to get follow up....

Try the direct approach - contact them, and explain what's your webinar about, in short, and maybe link to a blog post with detailed description.

The best way would be (i'm guessing) to thing what you would like to read if someone invited you to a webinar, and apply that to your contact messages.

I have just started using LinkedIn and have been reading here different threads about LinkedIn. Here is my progress for the last three days. Sept 8th - had 10 connections, Sept 9th- had 13 connections. Sept 10th after working on my profile, I have 249 connections in less then 24 hours. I have been getting requests and connecting with people. As of the time of writing this post. I have 272 connections.

Now it's time to go and get some recommendations. Preeti and everyone who has given tips, thanks so much.

I have attached an image of the number of my connections so far.

Out of the 304 connections I have now, 73 are not targeted but the rest are. The way am working is making sure I add targeted connections for the services I want to provide. Am carefully planning and testing out.
