Just been looking on Google+ local for trades plumbers, joiners Electricians what I'm noticing is most of these have no reviews, no photos no videos some not even an about us description yet they're all in the 7 pack. How the fcuk is that?

Looks like they just set-up the page themselves did nothing to it and bang in the 7 pack.... confused tbh.

Google+ Local is not about "getting 5 videos, 10 pictures, and 20 reviews" on your profile... It involves a lot of "traditional" SEO, i.e. the website is a crucial part of the mix. Strong domain is, in many cases, all you need. To this, you could add strong across-the-web presence, which could be measured in the number and quality of mentions of the business (citations). Overall, it's not as easy as you'd find it described in most of the "WSOs"

I know about the importance of citations seo etc. The 7 packs I have seen in my local area look like business owners have done them themselves. Just pointing out their plus accounts look empty yet they are ranking high. If a IM agency did the work for them you can guarantee the plus account would be full of pics vids description etc? I suppose all the plumbers/joiners etc in my area are all shit hot at citations seo.

    He's just dropping links.

Anyway... no you can't guarantee that pictures will show up in the listing. Google can sometimes leave those out. If you do a naked submit on the listing, that can sometimes fix that problem, but sometimes it indicates a problem with possible duplicates.

    Anyway, that's off topic.

I have charged business owners as much as $1000 for a setup, and I know others charge more. The average that I have seen is $750ish.

Then on a monthly basis, I usually recommend asking for $500-$750 per month for the first 3 months and then a plan at 50% that for maintenance.

    This worked well for me.

One important thing to note: never guarantee rankings. Guarantee work delivered. Ranking G+ Local is much less certain than ranking a website because of the way Google creates and manages listings.

Duplicates and multiple verified owners are two examples of situations that can REALLY mess up your listing. These are problems that are usually present when you arrive on the scene, and a business owner will expect you to know how to fix it. When that happens you need to be prepared to charge an hourly rate for fixing the problems since your initial fees should only be to cover setup and SEO.

    I suggest $50 / hour at least.

Thanks for the advice. Just been looking at some companies near me most offer a set-up fee for $450 dollars with no maintenance others do a free set-up and optimized say 5 key words for $200 per month seems low but they got rakes of A slots and testimonials.

That is extremely low. Knowing the amount of work that goes into it, I wouldn't bother LOL Business owners always drain your time with meetings and questions, blah blah blah... that's why I would never charge less than $500, and I would only go that low for a very low maintenance client. If you're forced to price that low, I'd build a different business.

Care to pass on a URL for these companies that are doing so well?

Just for your info Kung Fu , SEO Next (last link) went from very low to £3m in revenue in 2 years and will double to £6m within 2 years. (approx $10m)

      He started from his bedroom.

He is in UK and the telesales room is in Florida, US. This is where the bulk of the revenues are coming from and the doubling will almost certainly come from the US.

Something for you to aim for.
