Anyone getting objections because of election?

I haven't been devoting as much time as I should to my business (just got back from New Orleans) but I have been able to speak to cold prospects face to face about their business when I have the chance. Granted it hasn't been several hundred prospects or anything, but the majority of the one's I have spoken with are sitting on their money and waiting until after this years presidential election.

A similar thing happened in 2008. The reason I know this is because I owned a construction business and most of my prospects were waiting until the election was over before they would invest in new projects.

Has anyone else witnessed objections similar to this?

I have had more objections to December of 2012 than I've had due to the election.

    Luke,
we've seen this in our business since the summer, people are just hesitant to spend money with all the uncertainty. And our government business slowed due to the delay in getting the continuing funding resolution passed by Congress last week. Its making for some tough times at the moment and I'll be glad when the election is over.

I'll be glad when it's over too. Many of us on here are small businesses so not only is the election affecting our clients or prospects but it's affecting us as well.

This is typical on election years. The system I use is reverse psychology on clients. It doesn't always work, but what the heck. Find out their political affiliation and use that on them. For example, "now is the time to use my services before you lose tax breaks that are available right now" There are many other ways to do this. Believe it or not finding out their political affiliation helps considerably. You can't sell a bible to an atheist so get to know the client a little first

Never heard this one in 8 years...it's like the new "the dog ate my homework."

Sounds like another BS objection to spending money, but if they aren't spending, then move on, no matter what the reason. Other people are spending money.

When I hear something like that I don't even want to work with the that prospect. It means that they blame their financial success and future on external factors...instead of ponying up and realizing it's all on them.

It could be BS but some people do rely on the outcome of an election to determine how they will allocate their money.

I have a couple clients planning on a possible relocation that depends on the election. I DO feel that this election is probably the most important. To avoid debate, it is the most important to some people's perception.

I can see why people want to wait.

I hear it every day from clients, leads, prospects, which makes me feel good that I get to talk to like minded people daily.

Talking to like minded people is not how we learn or grow as other perspectives are needed for balance.

If I only talked to people who "know" affiliate marketing/info marketing/??? is the only way to go, I'd sure miss out on a lot of other possibilities.

Who knows, Craigslist might even work out for some people .

But that aside, many (most?) people I've talked to on both sides of the fence are worried about the future of the US depending on the election result. But nobody I've talked to or heard about is talking about leaving (unlike the last election.) And most people I've talked to are holding on to their money and consolidating ... with the notable exception of several people I know who are very generous with their charitable donations (whether tax deductable or not.)

I'm obviously not talking about marketing, which anyone could see except you...

Your logic is way off base, by the way. Sorry, but I don't want to socialize with people who practice things against my beliefs, and I'm not friends with people that I despise. I'm not a hypocrite. Although, I do learn different things and not against difference in opinion but I prefer to be happy. If I wanted to be unhappy, I would socialize with people who disagree with everything I do, or want from life.

Even learning and being mentored along the way to earn MY success.. I follow the path I create. I learn, have a vision, and go towards it. Someone with experience may be able to try to steer me in the right direction and give advice, but I rarely ever take it because I feel that I need to see everything for myself. I guess that's being stubborn though.

Anyway, back to what I said about people relocating, you're assuming it is only based on presidential election, which is only partially true. Certain states give certain advantages of doing business in... and certain states are also giving perks to businesses that relocate. Other states, depending on november elections, will be introducing certain things that may not be business friendly. Although, it wouldn't be a bad idea to move over to the bahamas, and enjoy 0% corporate and 0% personal income tax.

              Just elementary reading classes.

Marvin, I know you enjoy following me around, but come on man. You can easily see what I was talking about, but you decided to jump on me once again about something completely different than what the point was.

Aren't you the one jumping on me about talking to like minded people? Last time I checked, I don't ask MY CLIENTS for advice or different perceptions of marketing, when I AM THE EXPERT. Taking that in, you should be able to understand what I was talking about instead of giving me "advice" I never asked for. What does that have to do with internet marketing?

I can possibly see how it might affect certain types of businesses BUT if you are prospecting mom and pop small businesses I cant see how this is real objection.

Just for fun though if anyone tells me that Im going to ask them specifically how they are going to budget marketing differently if its Obama or Romney , just to see how good a BSer they really are.
