Yeah I saw this and my jaw dropped.

The time to get your paperwork in order is before you have the customer sign out. And to have him arrested? The PR alone will cost them not to mention the fact they will get sued by the guy and lose.

The customer isn't always right..... but a business should never be a dick.

the link that you provided didn't work for me but I did find this other one.

Chevy dealer accidentally sells car for $5,600 less than asking price... and then has buyer ARRESTED for theft | Mail Online

if you read toward the bottom of this article, you will notice that they apologized AFTER they had their own case thrown out.

Four hours later, Sawyer was released on bond, and in late August, the Commonwealth of Virginia dropped all charges against him after finding insufficient evidence to pursue the case.

In later September, Ellmer apologized to the aggrieved customer, saying that his staff made a mistake by going to the police.
In the article that I found it doesn't say if he is suing the police for wrongful arrest only that he is suing the car dealership.

and yea they are definately going to lose customers over this. Crazy

He can't sue the police for wrongful arrest. They were acting on a complaint submitted by the dealership. If they could, it wouldn't make sense to have police. They would never arrest anyone.

BTW, I've been my own lawyer in several court actions involving police so I've been there done that and even once at the federal level. Believe me when I say they can't sue the police. They always have something called immunity. Look it up and you'll see how broad the concept is and you'll know why he can't sue them.

Regardless, the stupid dealership is in for a big surprise if he pursues it correctly. Would I love to be the one arrested. I always had to do it the hard way.

      Just my 2¢...

The dealership may lose the case but will win with exposure.

Eish, sometimes it would appear the customer is right. I just wonder how they could have gone about it differently. Was the sales rep going to foot the bill for the difference or the dealership owner?

The exposure may be priceless, but the consequences are even better for the dealership.
