Because I am STILL out and about selling my "stuff" to local biz owners I sometimes run across people who know who I am and what I do (I'm an "Idea-Guy") and they come up to me at meetings or gatherings and ask me questions they are concerned with and....think that maybe I can provide an answer!

So....some weeks ago, a local cattle rancher comes up to me and, after our greetings (Tom loans me his Flat-Bed Trailer every year for the Float I build in the annual "Veterans Day Parade")(2nd place last year with 28 Veterans marching with us)....Tom tells me he has been having a BIG problem with ""Kids in their 4x4s ramming thru his gates to " "tear up his property"!

Aside: I asked Tom...why? and he told me , "probably because...'kids are Kids nowadays", as they've always been and....they see a Big piece of ground and...want to try out their units.

He further says that his "NO Trespassing" signs have NOT stopped them!

So.....I think for a few minutes and say, "Tom! Here's a sign you can try."

"DUE TO THE SHORTAGE OF AMMO
I WILL NO LONGER BE FIRING
WARNING SHOTS!"

And....a few weeks later.....Wow! The "bashing of gates" has come to an end!

Reminds me of when I was talking with Gary Halbert at one of his seminars. I was trying to sell 2 Biz-Ops that had to do with;
1) Sending Faxes to local business offices
and
2) Placing Biz Cards on "Video Rental Cases"

(BOTH turned out to be BIG TIME MONEY MAKERS for yours truly and those who bought my biz-ops)

This was waay baack when consumers were renting videos from Video Rental Stores and when "Faxes" first came out.

Gary's advice was to use the following words in my Ads (B4 Internet when I was running ads in Entrepreneur Mag and other Biz-Op mags);

"FREE RECORDED MESSAGE REVEALS".....(whatever the promo was)

WOW! Were THESE words a "Grabber"!

I won't go into detail on what I added to those KEYWORDS to get "prospects" to DROP what they were doing and.....pick up a phone and CALL MY NUMBER to listen to my "Free Recorded Message" responding to those KEY WORDS but, suffice to say....these words GRABBED potential customers "By Their Greed Glands".....and they responded in droves!

Also....recently, I found 3 auto care products for "Used Car Lots" that can:
1) Sell Used Cars for $500 MORE that the "Label Price"
and
2) Within 30 Days!

WOW! Excuse me BUT....when I walk onto a Used Car Lot (the OWNER is always there) and I say the above WORDS.....if he does NOT respond I instantly begin walking away!

However....many of these used car owners have....re-considered...as I'm walking away and they realize I'm NOT going to give them a "Sales Pitch" ..... just b4 I get into my car and drive away....they YELL OUT, "HEY! Lemme See whatcha got!"

So....once again, the "Power of Words"!

Another example of ..."the Power of Words"!

One of my LOOOOng Time advertisers (7yrs) is a 70 yr old woman who happens to own a "Gun Shop"....IN HER HOME! (This is OreGUN)(for you "legalists"...she's Legal)

She's bought many of my Ad Projects and.....here recently she told me that she'd like to be MORE competitive against the other GunShops in the area.

So....since this topic is about "The POWER of Words" ...here's what I did for her ADS in my local Ad Projects;

I kept her Ads as they were...saying Who she is and what she does AND.... across all her ads I wrote in BIG BLACK LETTERS....."WE HAVE AMMO!"

Her biz has EXPLODED! (Excuse the pun)

So....once again, I've PROVEN...."THE POWER OF WORDS" can help you!

This is just a short example of how I've used WORDS to provide ME with a "Very Nice Living"!

I hope this has given you readers some info you can use.

      Hey Marty.....I just got a call (8pm Pacific on 9-18-13) from my Gun Shop advertiser who told me she had "Sold Out" (of the Ammo she had) and...she is so excited she's placed orders for TRIPLE of previous orders.

      So....once again, the "Power of Words" comes thru!....AND....she has other items like "GUNS" for sale!

      It's really amazing how just THREE (3) words (We Have ammo) on most of the Ad Projects her ads are on....have caused a small gun shop to become a "Hot" seller....in a small town against the Biggies like,
      Fred Myers Dept Stores
      K-Mart
      Costco
      and even WAL-MART
      to be overwhelmed by a small, gun shop.....due to the POWER of WORDS!

      ...which once again proves to me the power of .....WORDS!

      In my early Sales Career....when I walked (cold) into some of the biggest, most influential offices in the country (Walgreens (Wm Walgreen III) and Corky Walgreen, Florsheim Shoes (Leonard Florsheim), Combined Insurance (W.Clement Stone), Swift & Co (Meat Packers) George Swift, Carson Pirie Scott dept stores, John Swearingen (Standard Oil) (wow! was that an experience! I walked into his office at the top floor of the Standard Oil Bldg in downtown Chgo...got his "Butler" to lead me down the long hallway to his office...went into his 2 story office with "oriental rugs" on the floor and EXPENSIVE Paintings on the walls and "walnut" furnishings throughout and.....sold him a $25,000 Alarm System for his home! Right then and there!!!!!!

      Wow! He then gave me the names of a Bunch of his "buddies" (Jerry Wexler (developer of Outer Drive East).... (where I met Charleton Heston and with whom I even got to play a game of tennis with on Wexler's Tennis Courts)

      Then....because I was "taking Aerial Photos" of Estates in the Aspen area (with our 152 Cessna)(Using the KeyWords- AERIAL PHOTOS OF YOUR PROPERTY!) .... I "happened" to be called by none other than "Lawrence Welk"....who told me he and Michael Douglas were developing a housing project on the lake above Snowmass and...could I meet with he and Michael the next morn!

      You Kidding ME?

      So....I could go on and on about what "the Power of Words" has done for me and my career and....my reason for taking the time to post this is so that....maybe....someone will understand the importance of "Words" in How we communicate to others to, not only "persuade" other humans but to motivate them to GIVE US MONEY!

    Just to be clear and give credit where credit's due, or not due, though the thread's called the "power of words", Don didn't think up the wording of the sign. Not that he said he did. His post could make it sound like he did, but he didn't. Re-read what he wrote and you see he says "here's a sign you can try." The sign's been around a long time:

    thanks don...not such an exciting story as yours but I remember this cafe I used to go to always tried to sell their left over sausage rolls to customers at a reduced rate......they would say to bob, "we have reduced our remaining sausage rolls to 50p (75cents) and some people bought some didn't. One day I noticed they started saying, "Sausage rolls are currently on offer for only 50p"

    More sausage rolls were sold because they were "on offer" and not "reduced" a simple change of words made those sausage rolls go like hot cakes. I think because everyone one loves an offer but not everyone buys food that has just been reduced.

    I think that many times words work because of the perspective. Write one way and no results...write a slightly different way and WHAM! HUGE results.
    That's the difference between success and failure in a nutshell.

  • Hi Don, . . . thank you for sharing your insights and the way you yourself used words at the right time in the right way to solicit the response you hoped for. That one about writing "We Have Ammo" across her regular classified ads was brilliant since so many gun shops have had difficulty keeping certain caliber shells in stock.

    Yup, I truly do believe in the power behind utilizing the power of words. If you know how to use words wisely, you will make big cash in the offline marketing industry.
