In Open Office use the Hyperlink Frame option and select _blank.

What version of Open Office are you using? I'm using 2013.

I have a hyperlink that I can click on under the insert tab but it doesn't bring up a window that looks like that. My dialog looks totally different. I do see something called "target frame" in my dialog, and when you look at the drop down list there is no _blank. There is a "new window".

But, I don't know how to get all of the hyperlinks I already created to open in a new window. It doesn't let me select each hyperlink and do that - they're all in the footer.

Ok, I was wrong, there is a _blank. I manage to select my hyperlinks and go to frame and then _blank, then click okay. But my hyperlinks are still not opening in a new window.

There IS a special name that opens in another tab all the time, but I forget the name. MOST are NAMES of areas or windows, andare arbitrary. If you use a new name, it will open in a new window. Otherwise, it will open in the one with that name.

As per the HTML spec, it's "_blank", just as the others above have stated.

Anybody know why _blank doesn't open in a new tab like it's suppose to?

It works for me just like I explained earlier in the thread.

Try the example pdf attached to this comment.

Open your default browser to any webpage and then click the link inside the pdf, you should see a new browser tab open.

Most of the main browsers have settings that allow a user to control how links are opened whether in a new window, new tab or in the same window. Those settings can overide your _blank target attribute.

I tried Yukon's pdf in Firefox and IE and both times I clicked on the link it did not open in a new tab. It opens in the same tab for me. So maybe my browser's setting are overiding the _blank target attribute. Although I'm not seeing anywhere in the settings where I can change that.
