You have to write the template using HTML and CSS media queries to make the template responsive and mobile friendly.

In my experience there is no such thing as responsive email template.

Email HTML to fit most email clients use inline css with fixed width and heights.

You could add stylesheets and create a responsive HTML email template, although many clients will not use the rules you add in CSS.

I recommend the free HTML email template builder from Campaign Monitor (https://www.campaignmonitor.com/email-templates/). You can whip something up pretty quick and then tweak the code if you have HTML/CSS skills.

Many ways out there to make your HTML email template responsive. Using media quires you can make your template responsive. But I suggest you use CSS frameworks. Framework give better solutions depending on the level of complexity and/ or flexibility. Use complete framework rather than a simple framework.
      Complete frameworks:
      • Bootstrap
      • Kube
      • Skeleton
      • Foundation 3

Integrate any of them to make your template responsive.

You want your emails to look good in every environment. Especially nowadays, when roughly half of all emails are opened on a mobile device, responsive design is essential to commercial email senders. In this link (goo.gl/ZVUdX7) we'll show you the basic principle of making a responsive HTML email using CSS Media Queries and provide you with an example.
