Google XML Sitemapo plugin driving me nut....

So I'm trying to get the above plug in to work on a new blog. I followed what the faq said and manually created the xml and xml.gz file and placed them in my public_html and it STILL gives me this error:

  • There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable.
  • There was a problem writing your zipped sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable.
I've even made the root directory (public_html) writable for myself. I've just been having one thing after another the past two days with this site. Can someone help? I've run the google verification so at least that works.....

    yes, you need to make the file called sitemap.xml writable or CHMOD it to 666
    or rw-rw-rw
