Is there a service (preferably free) with an API that allows to post to multiple social media sites (FB, Twitter, G+, Tumblr, etc.) in a single call?

Ping.fm closed down recently so I'd recommend hellotxt.com. Their API doc is listed in the footer.

Buffer - A Smarter Way to Share on Social Media have an API (Buffer - Developer API) which allows you to post to Facebook, Twitter and/or LinkedIn, either immediately or on schedule.

If you're a WordPress user, there are plugins for the above to automate this.

You won't find an API posting to Google+, as they don't have a write API.
