Is it better to delete a published post and re-publish than changing the permalink ?

I published a post recently and later realized that the Title and permalink are not very suitable. So what can I do now ?

1) Should I delete this post permanently and create a new one with the same content and fresh permalink and title ?
2) Use a 301 redirect after changing the permalink ?

Also, I wanted to know if the 1st option is preferable here ? As I want to keep things clean.

    I will suggest you to go with option 1 and also update your xml sitemap in Google Webmasters tools.

    If you are posting the same content just with a different title, then do the 301 redirect.

    If it was new content and the old page had no links pointing to it, it wouldn't really matter.

    There's a chance your post hadn't been indexed yet and option 1 is ok, but I would make sure and make an 301 redirect. If you want to make sure, check if you have backlinks to that page.

    First, delete the post and deindex it using Google's url removal tool in your webmaster tools account. Then, create a new post with the same content and the title/permalink you prefer.

      Thanks for the info. I tried to change the permalink without the 301, just to test. The page still displays the old permalink in Google search but is automatically redirected to the new url. Will the old permalink be fixed automatically after the new one is indexed ? Or do I still go ahead with option 1 ?

    Is your post indexed yet ? Are there any prominent links to it?
    If no then it doesn't matter.
