I would recommend you to not build links using any software. These links are considered as low quality links. so, try to build links using OFF page activities like social bookmarking, classified ad posting, PPT sharing, Infographic sharing, Video sharing, business listing, blog posting and others. Also, use the high PR websites for all these activities.

GSA is the best link building sofware i know of. However, it generates mainly spammy backlinks, so use them only as tier 2 links or links to sites you don't really care about.

I agree with SEO Power and pioner, anyway you still need backlinks. I am using turbo-ranker, it works well, makes 10k+ backlinks in a few hours, but I mainly use for tier 2 and tier 3 links

I spend hours reading different things every day for links, once upon a time, link popularity was all about quantity, now it all about quality!

A method im trying is creating microsites, using the keyword as the domain (if its available) writing an article and anchor text my domain in.

And what tests did you carry out to arrive at this conclusion? Automated tools will keep working for the foreseeable future as long as backlinks remain an integral part of the algorithm.

Having read the above threads I would have to agree that the rules have shifted (and will probably continue to shift).
It is not enough just to have a large number of inbound links pointing to your site. Rather, you need to have a large number of QUALITY inbound links. In the past the focus was on quantity and many webmasters have tried to manipulate backlinks by linking too many sites with the same IP address in a method referred to as backlink bombing.
Search engines want websites to have a level playing field, and look for natural links built slowly over time.
There is another way to gain quality backlinks to your site, in addition to related site themes and that is using anchor text. When a link incorporates a keyword into the text of the hyperlink, we call this quality anchor text. A link's anchor text may be one of the under-estimated resources a webmaster has. Instead of using words like "click here" which probably won't relate in any way to your website, using the words "Please visit our tips page for how to …….." is a far better way to utilize a hyperlink.
Given the need to consider all the various factors, plus the changing rules of the backlink landscape, it makes me question the ability of software to achieve this over say a six-month period. Can anyone explain how they do this?

GSA is the best link building software. This is by far my favorite link building tool right now. It is crazy flexible and able to build some rather niche specific high quality backlinks on the first tier with the proper filters and manually spun content. Then for tier 2/3 links it can’t be beat, combine it with Kontent Machine and you can literally set up tier 2 blasts in a matter of minutes. As if the price of GSA wasn’t already ridiculously low ($99). It is not free or paid. It fixed prize (99$).

Anything like this... but cheaper? $79/month is a bit out of my budget at this point but I really like what I've seen of this tool so far.

Of course the best software should be paid, and its GSA Search Engine Ranker so far. It has varieties of different options and if it is used in proper way, it can be a great link building software which really works. Beside this, you should have GSA Captcha Breaker and a paid indexing service like Nuclear Link Indexer to make your link building more effective.

i would suggest gsa if you want to build teir three links as you said above but dont never use softwares to built teir 2 and teir 1 links because it is dangerous if you beleive that your site provide much better experince then your competitors site and have better content then him then you will rank google has b.s meter which track user expeirnce if your site provide good content an have low bounce rate then you always be on top and try to find seo mistakes of your competitors and make these mistakes as your power
    hope this helps
