Should I hire an SEO?

I've got an exact match domain of a very competitive niche - 800 searches/month, $33 CPC and I've built a website for lead generation, and added plenty of content (most articles averaging around 1000 words).

However, in 3 months I haven't been able to get anywhere near the top of Google for the search term. The highest I've got is about 120th.

Is it a good idea in this case to hire an SEO to get the site to #1, or just sell off the website to someone who has a better idea?

The site is in the top 5 for Yahoo/Bing & DuckDuckGo for this specific keyword.

It's an option. Nobody can tell you one way or the other without a lot more information.

What is your budget? How much is the site currently making per lead? How well is the traffic converting from other sources? Will the site still be profitable if it only makes it in the top 5 and not to #1? Are there a lot of related keywords that can bring in traffic too?

There are too many variables for anyone to give you a definitive yes or no.

If you're targeting a highly competitive keyword then you must know that organic rankings requires time and it's not an over night process. I'd suggest you to hire a freelance SEO that fits your budget instead of selling the domain. Would you mind sharing the domain URL with us here?

    my suggestion as below:

    1) if you have budget, try hire for SEO. then wait for the results. if you're satisfied with the results, you then should scale up all your works. so that you have the chance to rank for more keywords.

    2) if you didn't have enough budget, just sell it to anyone else. so that you can get instant cash for continuing your next project.

My bet is your links are spammy, that works on Yahoo & Bing but will usually have long term problems with Google SERPs.

Have you done your homework? Did you check the competition of the top 10 results?

That's what matters before going any further.

Thanks for all the replies. The domain - for those interested is dental website design (dot) com - all one word, but I don't want search engines to index that!

You don't have any links that will rank a page.

Here's a simple but amazingly effective way of deciding whether you should go ahead with an SEO company:

    Whatever keyword(s) you're targeting has 800 searches/month.

A quality SEO campaign would usually cost upwards of USD$500-1000/month minimally.

Assume you have gotten onto Google Page 1 and convert 2% of that 800 searches/month into customers - you would be getting around 16 clients / month.

Do you make more than USD$100 / client? If so you would be making more than USD$1,600 / month as a result of that SEO (of course, 2% is an assumption and can be optimized for more).

That way, you spending ~$750/month for $1,600/month in cash flow gets you a positive and relatively high ROI.

But if you only make $10 / client, then it's a stupid idea to go ahead with an SEO company or consultant, because you would be only making $160 / month with a $750 / month investment in SEO.

The above should help you quickly come to a great solution.

This all depends on your own budget, but also on whether or not it's worth the investment. Good SEO services aren't cheap, but if you think you will earn your money back + profit from being among the first results, then go for it. If not, maybe you can try doing some onpage, offpage SEO work yourself.

  • I think definitely you should hire SEO expert because today everything has gone digital and every thing which you want, can be easily found in the net. Nowadays overall population’s interest is shifting towards online shopping, online searching and everything. This shows that new generation era belongs to e-commerce and to gain somewhat in an unexpected manner, SEO tips are very much needed in this time.

Basic SEO strategy and transitional SEO path that helps to rise your website popularity and that are divided in 3 segment: goal of your website ranking, utmost website rank and need, how rankings are measured by Google and its result page. Search engine separated the ranking scheme into two parts such as paid and non paid listing. Paid websites are like PPC. Non paid websites are those websites which are completely free and available online.

Good decision is to hire a SEO team. Getting online is essential in this digital era. Selling your website to someone would not fetch good results. You have already gained a rank and so go on.

Having a well-defined SEO strategy can fetch you the expected results. Though it is a slow process you can get good result with better ranking. Make sure that the On page SEO health of your website is good. On page SEO is a one-time process and is worth doing. Then move on with Off Page promotions.

But, don't believe those who assures gauranteed ranking.

    Hello!

I understand your concern jamesi. SEO is indeed a very tedious, time consuming task, and it gets even more challenging with the recent updates of the Google algorithm. Remember that time is gold, and it is time that you need to leverage your time. Although it is up to you to decide, I would suggest that you should hire a SEO expert or outsource it to an effective SEO team that can be fit for your budget.

As an entrepreneur, if you are serious that you should get yourself into the #1 position for your website (based on your chosen keyword), you should not afraid to invest your money to outsource or to hire a SEO expert. Just don't think of the money you have spent, but rather think of what can it give back to you in the long term run. Entrepreneurs are thinking of long term results, and I know you do. But it is your choice if you want to continue doing it yourself or to outsource it. Good luck!

    Jeff
