We all know that content is king and it plays most important factor for ranking sites on the top of SERPs. But we can not avoid social media which also plays great value for SEO ranking. So, it is a good idea to write quality content which readers love and also search engines!

I also think that links are queen! What do you think? Am i right!

    No, not really.

Content alone won't generate traffic, so it's not king.

Lots of dofollow links can generate traffic with barely any content.

If anything links are king, though I wouldn't describe it that way.

Social network sites have no direct SEO value, links/likes from Facebook for example pass no direct SEO value (likes mean nothing SEO wise, links from social networks are nofollow so ignored).

So you are pretty much wrong on all counts I'm afraid.

SEO isn't that difficult to understand, webpages with content plus backlinks Google counts (likes are not links, links that are nofollow are ignored) equals Google SERPs.

None of that is even remotely true. Not a single word of it.

Lots of do-follow links are called link spam and that ended in 2013. And since nobody is naturally going to link to you if you don't have great content, Google penalizes those sites right off the bat.

Content is king, queen, prince, royal family, jester, cook, and servants. Because without great content, you won't get those on-page statistics that Google values so highly. Those can't be faked....either people see things on your site that interest them or they don't.

Backlinks are still mildly important, but they've lost their value because of the spammers of the world. So low quality links are now basically useless while high quality ones are golden. The idea of building lots and lots of links is a serious mistake though; Google knows better.

Of course some of it is true, my name is David so at least one word is true, or are you saying my name isn't David :-)

        Consider exactly what I'm saying.

I am NOT saying content is unimportant. I'm saying on it's own it will not generate Google SERPs.

How many of you have created awesome content that in your opinion is far better than the competition, yet your content isn't ranked on Google. Why?

Because alone content does not equal SERPs, if it did anyone could create better content and immediately rank number 1 for any SERP. Evenn having great content doesn't mean your site will generate the backlinks required for it to rank high, some webmasters are much better at promotion than others.

Google does not rank webpages based on the quality of their content, Google doesn't have a way to determine the true quality of content, it uses other signals which suggest it's quality and those signals can be easily manipulated.

        Therefore content is not king.

Content is important, high quality content can generate backlinks which Google uses as a major ranking factor, but it's not the content per se generating the rankings it's the links.

Take the links away, no SERPs.

Feel free to prove me wrong with some examples of awesome content that lacks backlinks which is ranking high in Google.

I have rubbish content sites which generate more SERPs than much higher quality content sites because I've worked harder/longer on the backlinks for the rubbish content.

You know if content were king there would be no need for SEO, we'd be paying academics to generate the best content.

My interpretation of content is king has always been THE INTERNET is CONTENT.

Without content, there is no web. Let alone SEO...

Without content, there is nothing to create a backlink with (which usually resides on a page with content)

So... in the grand scheme of things, yes, content in all it's forms is king when it comes to SEO because content is what people are searching for in the first place.

      Know what I mean?

      Semantics...

I couldn't agree more about SEO not being hard to understand. It's content and links at the end of the day.

I've never worried about Google updates or losing rank.. Great content, great links, great layout (to convert), and great experience (mobile, fast load time) to bring them back.

      That's it.

      I agree with you.

Quality Content + Quality Links (do-follow) + Targeted Traffic = Money

Content can't become a king alone.

Can you explain the mechanism you're proposing here? How exactly does social media "play great value"?

The basics of SEO are not that hard. Either you've got a backlink that passes "Google juice", or you don't. If you have no idea how your proposed model might work it's likely just wishful thinking. And that's what "social signals" are for the most part.

Sharing content may get you backlinks from other site owners, but that's not social media directly affecting rankings.

I once wrote an article entitled "Here are the best anime on Hulu plus." I didn't do any back linking. It is still # 2 on Google.

If you produce enough content and your site is indexed, something will likely rank. Buzzfeed didn't anticipate that a post about dress colors would hit 18 million views, but it did.

Do you mean you didn't do link building directly to that article?

What about to the home page and other pages on the site, were any links pointing at the domain?

I'd assume yes, those are backlinks. All the links will help your article you never built a link to just like when searching Google for "Power of Content in SEO" (title of this forum post) you'll find this page in the top 10 even though no one is building links directly to this webpage.

I really don't know why people insist on saying social media plays no role in SEO when that's been a connection for quite a while now.

In Google's own http://static.googleusercontent.com/...rter-guide.pdf, the company writes, "Users know good content when they see it and will likely want to direct other users to it. This could be through blog posts, social media services, email, forums, or other means. Organic or word-of-mouth buzz is what helps build your site's reputation with both users and Google, and it rarely comes without quality content."

Odds are social traffic is building nofollow links on social platforms If they're even sharing the content (BIG If). In other words, it's not ranking pages.

I am pretty sure that you have a goal in mind. I understand that you are giving greater value to your website by giving them high quality optimized content. However, content might not be enough without traffic. You should try engage your content through social media fan pages, groups or even share it your wall. Always give your audience some greater value for good. Make sure that you also do your homework first before optimizing your website to the next level. As long you use the law of attraction (ask, believe, receive) that you can reach your goal with positive attitude, one day it will become reality.

    2. for off page optimization - High Quality Backlinks are Kings still =)

      King of what?

      Of SEO?

I ranked pages with nothing but title with keyword in it, in h1, and keyword in url.

I've seen blank pages ranking during my research.

No, none of these were competitive keywords.

But, for competitive keywords, I end up on page 2 or 3 (with nothing but keyword in h1 and url, beating hundreds of pages with the king on.
