Different brand name accross social media platforms

Hi all,

I have a question I couldn't find an answer for, I would appreciate if you could have a look and advise on the below.

I have a brand name on mind that has a .com domain available. Let's call the brand Goodbrand. Problem is, on Twitter and Tumblr the name is in use. On Facebook it is used as the custom URL for a personal profile, not a page, hence www.facebook.com/ goodbrand is taken.

My question is, if I cannot negotiate with the owners of these accounts, is it a good idea to add Official or Brand or something along these lines to the brand name on all the platforms? So it would be Goodbrand Official or Goodbrand Brand there. From a SEO perspective, will it have an adverse effect on ranking? Will Google recognize the connection between goodbrand.com and Goodbrand Official on social media?

Do you have any recommendations for this problem? Any best practices or proven solutions?

Thanks very much for having a look and I greatly appreciate all feedback.

Best,

cudarz

It should not have an adverse effect on ranking, some social media sites actually allow you to link the sites directly by having a code to verify the ownership of the website (Pinterest, for example) so is noted that the social media profile is indeed linked to the website.

      Hi cdebbie,

Thanks for your answer. So from a SEO perspective, thanks to cross-linking, it shouldn't be an issue, right? What about branding? Do you think it is a problem if Official is added to the name? Will is mix things up in the customers' minds?

      Thanks again.
